Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Observing Opponents

Silas quickly scanned the faces of several skilled trainers, but unfortunately, none of the names on his list appeared.

He checked the time 8:30 in the morning. At this hour, most people would choose to train at the training grounds.

Finding a place to sit, Silas pulled up his wristwatch interface and started watching battle videos.

He had already decided to spend all three mornings here. Watching battles while skimming through some videos seemed like a fun way to pass the time.

At the same time, he could observe whether any of his future opponents would show up. Unlike Reggie, who randomly approached unfamiliar trainers and asked them for battles just to expose their strength, Silas wasn't going to do something that reckless.

Thinking about it, he couldn't help but complain no normal person would do something like that, right?

As for the afternoon, he planned to see if Pidgeot was in the mood to accompany him in fishing for Pokémon in the ocean. Having it hover nearby would be helpful.

With Combusken's personality, if it played too hard in the morning, it would definitely drag Roggenrola along to continue playing in the afternoon. Silas knew this all too well.

Maybe he'd even go somewhere else for a change of pace like taking a swim to relax.

Simply perfect.

Silas didn't even realize that his habits were slowly shifting toward those of an older man.

He spent the entire morning there but didn't find anyone worth noting.

Closing the video he had just finished, he wasn't disappointed. After all, most people boarding the S.S. Anne were here to enjoy themselves.

Training on board was considered a private matter, often done in closed spaces, and Silas wasn't about to intrude on anyone's privacy.

In this world, recklessly prying into someone else's training methods or Pokémon Training strategies could easily lead to hostility just like trying to steal a family's secret techniques in ancient times.

Last time, it had only been fine because he knew Brock, and Brock had stated his intentions upfront. Plus, Silas himself had already been considering something similar.

Otherwise, if it had been someone else, Silas would have probably found an opportunity to deal with that person in the wild.

Randomly approaching someone and asking how they train their Pokémon? That was basically asking to be eliminated.

Stretching his arms and standing up, he moved his legs a bit sitting for three hours had made them a little numb.

First, he went to retrieve Combusken before heading back to his room. By then, Pidgeot was already perched on the balcony.

"Yo, you're back! Had a good flight?"

"Pidgeot!"

Silas chuckled. It looked like Pidgeot had a great time. After all, a raptor always needed the open skies to soar freely.

"Roggenrola!"

Roggenrola ran out from the small room, greeting its Trainer before being pulled aside by Combusken for a private conversation.

Silas didn't bother with them and instead went straight to preparing lunch for his three Pokémon. He ordered room service, requesting some bread, beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and potatoes.

Today, he planned to make a burger meal in his room's kitchen.

Come to think of it, this world didn't seem to have hamburgers yet or was it just the Kanto region that lacked them?

Silas wasn't entirely sure. After all, most regions in this world were quite far apart, each with its own customs and traditions, and he hadn't visited many of them.

But since sandwiches existed, it made sense that hamburgers should, too.

Of course, many Chinese dishes were definitely missing here. The world primarily leaned toward Japanese and Western cooking styles.

"Huh, maybe someday I could even become a food tycoon in the Pokémon world. How about calling it Pokémon Gourmet Supplier?"

As he assembled his burgers, Silas let his thoughts wander.

He quickly made two beef burgers with a side of fries and grabbed a drink from the room's refrigerator, which had been restocked that morning.

Sitting on the balcony, he basked in the sunlight, enjoying his meal. A bite of the burger, a sip of his chilled drink, then a fry this was the ultimate laid-back lifestyle.

Adjusting his sunglasses, Silas noticed someone stepping onto the adjacent balcony. The person looked oddly familiar.

"Oh, Uncle Chisato! You're staying next to me? Good afternoon!"

Turning his head, he greeted the man with enthusiasm.

"Well, if it isn't Silas! I sure didn't expect this." The middle-aged man named Chisato stretched his body. Hearing the voice, he turned to see Silas.

It was the same young man he had spoken to last night. Loosening his muscles, Chisato responded casually, surprised at the coincidence.

This man, Asakawa Chisato, was the one who had asked Silas about his background the previous night.

"Uncle, are you going fishing for Pokémon this afternoon?"

After taking a refreshing sip of his drink, Silas realized he was out and signaled Combusken to grab him another bottle. He then asked Chisato.

"Yeah, I'll be heading out soon. What, you wanna join?"

Watching Combusken walk around, Chisato's eyes flashed with admiration. As an experienced Trainer himself, he wasn't a professional Breeder, but he could tell that this Combusken was exceptionally well-trained and powerful. That was just a Trainer's intuition.

Still, he didn't let his thoughts slow his response to Silas.

"Of course! Let's go together later, Uncle."

"Alright! Last night wasn't my best performance, but today, I'll show you what it means to be the king of fishing for Pokémon!"

Silas quickly finished his meal, clapped his hands, and signaled that he was ready.

Beside him, Chisato also wrapped up his midday stretching.

The two left their balconies, chatting and laughing as they headed toward the fishing area.

Behind them,Combusken and Roggenrola sneakily followed but veered off toward the amusement area.

Silas casually reminded them to be back for dinner. The two simple-minded Pokémon froze for a moment before realizing there was no further scolding and continued on their way.

"Haha, looks like you have a great bond with your Pokémon." Chisato chuckled at the scene.

"Of course. They're my family," Silas answered without hesitation.

Chisato gave him a look of approval. "Exactly. Pokémon are our family, the most trustworthy partners we have."

As they chatted, they arrived at the same fishing spot from the previous night.

By now, many people had already gathered.

"Oh, the old man's still here."

"Hey there, Old Fuku!"

"You stubborn old coot, the sun's gonna roast you alive soon."

"Dias, you bloodsucker, you actually came out in the afternoon?"

Compared to Silas's polite greetings, Chisato's way of saying hello was much more… aggressive.

As expected, he was immediately met with a round of scolding.

"Asakawa Chisato, you bastard! Learn some manners. Look how respectful Silas is!"

"You damn lizard, who are you calling a bloodsucker?"

Ah, right Chisato's strongest Pokémon was a Sceptile, which was why people called him "damn lizard."

And the so-called "bloodsucker," Dias also known as Old Fuku had a Gengar as his strongest Pokémon. Since his battle strategy often involved draining an opponent's stamina without them noticing, he had earned the nickname "vampire."

The two were longtime rivals and old friends.

Silas ignored their childish banter and focused on fishing.

Letting out a whistle, he signaled to Pidgeot, which circled above before landing nearby.

The other Trainers on guard glanced at Pidgeot's identification tag but didn't react after all, this was a perfectly legal practice.

Gently stroking Pidgeot's feathers with one hand, Silas casually held his fishing rod with the other.

His effortless, cool demeanor drew admiration from the older Trainers around him.

"Ah… back when I was young…"
