Chapter 106 - The Approaching Storm

Hiss, hiss

Since ancient times, when people gazed upward at the heavens, perhaps they imagined that one day, at some fateful moment, terrifying calamities would descend from those distant stars.

The great red dragon carrying one-third of the stars, falling from the sky to the mortal realm.

───「 Human POV 」───

In various myths across different cultures, when celestial deities residing above the stars commanded the destruction of the mortal world, one could glimpse humanity's deepest fears.

From God's great flood to Laozi opening the gates of heaven to cleanse the world of impurities, sparing only those bearing yellow talismans.

People have always feared the sky and the gods who dwelled there. Simultaneously, they worshipped these deities, harboring profound curiosity about the unknown forces concealed in the celestial depths.

Regardless of east or west, north or south, this fundamental truth remained constant.

And now, their ancient fears were being answered.

From beyond the heavens, the Ghidorah's Wings were about to descend upon the mortal world.

They would bring about the end.

And this time, humanity would resist until the bitter end.

North America, the Middle East, Western Europe, East Asia...

Nearly all of humanity's industrial capacity had been redirected toward constructing countless super-electromagnetic guns over the past several weeks.

Billions of tons of steel had been repurposed, with robotic laborers working tirelessly to build defensive structures.

From towering mountains to vast plains, super-electromagnetic guns stood ready, aimed skyward.

Millions of nuclear weapons had been loaded onto thousands of satellites orbiting Earth, representing humanity's most formidable arsenals from ancient times to the present.

The deployment of Oxygen Destroyers went without saying. After the Ghidorah's Wings accelerated their approach, production of these weapons had intensified dramatically.

More and more Oxygen Destroyers were transported worldwide. It wasn't an exaggeration to say that humanity's stockpiles were sufficient to exterminate all life on the planet, including bacterial organisms.

The lunar space station had redirected its focus away from the approaching Ghidorah Wing, while surveillance satellites left in lunar orbit measured the distance to the Ghidorah's Wings. These instruments gathered more accurate data than all previous measurements, including the true number of Ghidorah's Wings, their current positions, estimated arrival times (down to the minute), landing zones for each wave, and the number of Ghidorah's Wings in each formation.

All of this information had been meticulously mapped by humanity's defense networks.

Satellites locked onto the glowing clusters where the Ghidorah's Wings gathered.

As they approached and decelerated, the golden sheen reflected by the Ghidorah's Wings from sunlight made them shine brilliantly, visible even from the ground.

"Mama, look, another star appeared."

A young girl sitting in an evacuation vehicle pointed excitedly toward Venus through the window at night.

These few days had been the happiest of her life. Her mother and father, who had been absent for so long, had returned to her side, taking her and her grandparents on a "trip" together. It had been ages since such a family gathering had occurred.

"Yes, another star appeared, darling. It's time for you to sleep. We still have to line up tomorrow."

Her mother stroked her small head, forcing a smile onto her exhausted face before pulling out a tissue to wipe the corners of her slightly swollen eyes.

"Mama, I don't want to line up. I want to sleep in a bed..."

Hearing this, the little girl pouted. Her watery eyes gazed up at her mother, hoping to persuade her to find another hotel and sleep somewhere more comfortable, just like before.

Upon hearing these innocent words, her mother suddenly recalled something, tears streaming down her face. She embraced her daughter tightly, whispering softly:

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."

The apologies frightened the five or six-year-old girl, who felt confused and uncertain. It was her first time witnessing her mother behave this way.

She didn't understand what her mother was apologizing for, so she awkwardly wiped away her mother's tears with her small hands.

This heartbreaking scene, under the starlit sky, had already played out countless times across the world.

The goddess of beauty hung high above, and beside her, distinct from satellites, flickered ominous points of golden light.

On Earth's nights, apart from the rivers of satellites that crowded the sky, the small clusters of golden light were increasingly conspicuous.

The ground evacuation continued relentlessly, with vehicles forming lines that stretched to the horizon. Transport planes soared overhead, continuously ferrying people toward mountain shelters, even after nightfall.

Day or night, outside the shelters carved into mountains, there was always a constant stream of desperate people attempting to enter. Even at 3 or 4 in the morning, under harsh incandescent lights, crowds remained visible.

The evacuation of all humanity was proceeding less smoothly than the defensive preparations.

[Middle East: 95%]

[Europe: 60%]

[East Asia: 45%]

[Americas: 35%]

[Africa: 25%]

[Regional Retreat Rate: 52%, Global Population Retreat Rate: 43%]

"Less than half... This is woefully inadequate. At this rate, we can only hope the Ghidorah's Wings show mercy."

Someone muttered to themselves in a command center.

Too little progress, too little time, and too slow an evacuation rate. At the current pace, before the Ghidorah's Wings arrived, they could evacuate at most sixty to sixty-five percent of humanity.

For the remaining population, even with strict time management, billions would still be unable to reach safety.

If the Ghidorah's Wings attacked a shelter...

What about the hundreds of thousands of people stranded outside?

Would they all perish?

"We've done everything humanly possible."

Some officials insisted humanity had exerted its utmost effort. Building shelters for the entire human race and relocating over fifteen billion people in just 5 or 6 days already constituted a miracle.

They couldn't realistically expect miracles to occur indefinitely.

"Goddamn Godzilla."

Others cursed the titan. If not for its actions, why would they now face Ghidorah? Why would the Ghidorah's Wings have awakened?

Even if, taking a step back and assuming the Ghidorah's Wings would have awakened anyway, they would have had sufficient time to evacuate the global population.

Instead, countless people remained exposed to imminent danger.

From this perspective, all current tragedies stemmed from that monster's interference!

Hope, despair, sadness, regret, lamentation, and fortune...

In various human command rooms worldwide, all these emotions were reduced to cold data, simplified and displayed on massive screens.

Also featured prominently on these screens was another critical dataset:

[Estimated Arrival Time of Ghidorah's Wings:]

[First Wave: UTC Time, May 13th, 6:24 AM, landing in the Middle East and North Africa, estimated quantity: 14]

[Second Wave: UTC Time, May 13th, 10:31 PM, landing in East Asia, estimated quantity: 23]

[Third Wave: UTC Time, May 15th, a:17 AM, landing in North America, estimated quantity: 21]

[Fourth Wave: UTC Time, May 16th, 6:42 AM, landing in Northern Europe, estimated quantity: 13]

[Total Number of Ghidorah's Wings: 71, with a fluctuation of 20 minutes in arrival time]

[Time Remaining Until the First Wave of Ghidorah's Wings: 28 hours, 52 minutes, 17 seconds]

With barely 29 hours remaining, the war that would determine the future of humanity—no, the future of this entire planet—was about to begin.
