Chapter 51 - Chapter 1: Apocalypse? Black Bullet World!

In a daze, Morin found himself surrounded by an unfamiliar and eerie scene. The sky overhead was gloomy, filled with an unsettling reddish hue. The bizarre forest, coupled with the abandoned buildings in the distance, seemed to radiate an aura of danger, further emphasized by the faint, ominous roars echoing from afar. The entire scene screamed "apocalypse."

If this had been any other scenario, Morin might have been confused, but as his eyes landed on the towering black monoliths that encircled him, realization struck him like a thunderbolt. There was no denying it.

"Black Bullet world?!" he muttered, his voice laced with uncertainty, but his words carried an undeniable certainty.

Black Bullet.

Morin had seen the anime. It was the type of work that, at times, made viewers want to send the author a few razor blades. The story took place in 2020 when the peaceful world was suddenly ravaged by a disaster straight out of a Hollywood apocalypse movie. A virus known as the "Gastrea Virus" spread across the globe, decimating humanity as the virus spawned terrifying creatures called "Gastrea Animals."

The Gastrea parasites were unlike anything seen before. They infected both humans and animals, gradually altering their DNA sequences. Over time, these hosts would transform into terrifying monsters known as Gastrea Animals, wreaking havoc upon the world. The mutations gave the Gastrea remarkable strength, adaptability, and regenerative abilities, and they exhibited a fierce aggression toward humans.

When Gastrea Animals encountered humans, they attacked without hesitation. Even the weakest of Gastrea required a team of well-trained soldiers with concentrated firepower to defeat. Ordinary people or ill-equipped police officers who encountered Gastrea faced a grim fate: either being torn apart and having their DNA absorbed or being infected with the virus, which would then transform them into new Gastrea Animals.

The Gastrea Virus was terrifying. It spread like wildfire, surpassing even the T-Virus from Resident Evil in both potency and infection rate. Unlike the zombies from the T-Virus, however, even the most basic stage of Gastrea could withstand fire from ordinary light weapons. As the virus mutated and evolved, the Gastrea grew even more formidable. The infection rate was alarmingly fast, with infected creatures spreading the virus at a breakneck pace.

The human race was swiftly overwhelmed. Despite deploying every weapon at their disposal—including fighter jets, tanks, warships, and even nuclear bombs—humanity was utterly defeated. The once mighty armies were wiped out, and those who survived either became part of the Gastrea hordes or succumbed to the virus.

In the face of this unstoppable menace, humanity was on the brink of extinction. The last remaining nations, witnessing the collapse of civilization and their inevitable doom, began to entertain the thought of self-destruction. It seemed like there was no hope.

However, in the midst of all this despair, humanity discovered a weapon capable of countering the Gastrea: a metallic element called Varanium. Found in volcanic regions, Varanium possessed the ability to inhibit the regeneration of the Gastrea and emitted a weak magnetic field that disrupted the activity of the Gastrea Virus. This discovery sparked a desperate mining effort for Varanium, which was then used to construct massive defensive walls. These walls, built with Varanium, formed the last bastion of human civilization, known as the Monoliths.

Morin had seen the towering black Monoliths in the anime. They were an essential part of the Black Bullet world. Without them, humanity would have been doomed. The Monoliths were the only things standing between human settlements and the ever-encroaching Gastrea threat.

Seeing those black monoliths around him confirmed the world he was in. But Morin couldn't be sure of the time or his exact location. Was this the beginning of the main storyline? Was he in the past, present, or future of this world? Those answers would have to wait, as just then, a series of golden text appeared on a screen before him, drawing his attention.

As he read the text, his face darkened, and he muttered a curse under his breath.

The screen displayed the following message:

Confirmed entry into the intermediate world Black Bullet. Villain mission initiated!

Main Mission: Unique Ideals

Mission Description: As a villain indifferent to his own fate, his family, others, and the world, you have replaced the villain Hiruko Kagetane in the Black Bullet world. You have also begun to understand and influence his insane personality, inheriting the twisted ideals that reside within him.

Mission Rewards: You can choose to receive your rewards after the Third Kanto War ends.

Note: You have entered the Black Bullet world as Hiruko Kagetane's replacement. While you will possess some of his memories, the circumstances surrounding his relationships will be altered. You will not inherit his network and assets in full.

Morin stood frozen, staring at the screen. The mission had set his fate in motion, and he could feel the weight of the task ahead. Would he follow in the footsteps of Hiruko Kagetane, or carve his own path in this chaotic world? The choices ahead of him were as vast as the dangers that lurked in the Black Bullet world.
