Chapter 303: Visit from the Inhumans
One week later, in the afternoon.
George returned to the school from the New York Sanctum via Phantom Shift.
Over the past week, he had made time every day to visit the New York Sanctum and consult with the Ancient One about time magic.
The Ancient One, that old idle fish, actually had plenty of free time. Apart from occasionally teaching her disciples or drinking tea, she didn't have much to do. Without the invasion of dimensional demon gods, the minor matters were usually handled by her apprentices and followers.
There was no shortage of mages at Kamar-Taj.
However, even with the Ancient One's guidance, the complexity of time magic still exceeded George's imagination—but it did indeed greatly improve his efficiency in researching the Super Magic Fairy Orb.
He could now finally understand why Makarov had said this magic was extremely difficult.
At the same time, he couldn't help but admire the founder who had created these super magics—their talent for magic was truly monstrous.
"George, someone claiming to be an Inhuman from the Inhuman Clan says there is an urgent matter and wants to see you."
Just as he returned to the school and hadn't even begun to organize what he had learned that day, Professor X's voice suddenly sounded in his mind.
In a flash, he arrived at the school's main conference room.
Inside the room stood Professor X, Wolverine, and a woman whose head was covered in spikes.
"What's going on?" George asked.
Professor X pointed to the woman in front of them.
"She called the school, saying she wanted to apply as a teacher. But in reality, she has something urgent to discuss with you. She claims to be an Inhuman from the Inhuman Clan."
"An Inhuman from the Inhuman Clan? If I remember correctly, you were the ones helping Hydra fight against us before."
George looked at the woman in front of him and spoke in a calm tone.
He knew that the ones who had helped Hydra intercept them in Washington last time were Inhumans.
But what he didn't understand was how the Inhumans in this world had ended up entangled with Hydra.
Logically, they should have been mortal enemies. Their female leader, as he recalled, had been dismembered by a Hydra scientist.
But since this wasn't the same universe, many things might be different.
"We were forced to help Hydra. They kidnapped our loved ones and used them as leverage. We had no choice."
The spiky-haired female Inhuman hurriedly explained upon hearing his words.
George walked to stand opposite the Inhuman woman, his expression indifferent.
"Then what is your purpose for coming here today?"
He wasn't interested in whether the Inhumans had been threatened by Hydra or the relationship between the two.
As long as Hydra didn't come directly to make trouble for him, even if they blew up the White House, what did it have to do with him?
Rather than wasting time meddling in others' affairs, it was better to focus more on researching time magic.
He wasn't a savior, nor was he so benevolent.
"My name is Reina. My ability allows me to see fragments of the future. A great catastrophe is about to befall this world, and we Inhumans will be affected too. Only you can save us—save everyone."
Seeing George frown, Reina quickly continued:
"Hydra's original sin gained terrifying power through a hammer and unleashed an evil god named Jörmungandr from the depths of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean.
The future I saw was filled with disasters caused by that Jörmungandr.
Our leader said that if you are willing to help us and rescue our loved ones, then our entire Inhuman Clan will join your school and follow your orders."
Compared to the cruel Hydra, George—who was willing to take in and protect superpowered beings—was clearly a much better choice.
Thus, their leader Jiaying, upon learning of Reina's vision, secretly sent her to find George, hoping to take this opportunity to break free from Hydra's control once and for all.
"A great catastrophe... the evil god Jörmungandr?"
A flash of doubt flickered in George's eyes.
He knew of Original Sin. Although he had never heard of her in his previous life, the name did exist in Zola's information database. She was the daughter of Red Skull, born under unusual circumstances, and carried some of Red Skull's genes.
Her physical abilities were a bit stronger than average humans, but she held no real status within the vast Hydra organization.
As for Jörmungandr—he had absolutely never heard of it.
The only Jörmungandr he remembered was from The King of Fighters, the one that launched solar particles and actually had world-ending power. But that Jörmungandr didn't belong to the Marvel universe. Clearly, this one didn't either.
Reina truly did possess the ability to see fragments of the future, and with his telepathic ability, George could tell she wasn't lying.
"Looks like it's better to get rid of Hydra sooner rather than later."
Originally, he thought Hydra wasn't much of a threat to him and hadn't paid much attention to them.
Keeping them around could even help throw a wrench into the plans of various world governments, preventing them from going brain-dead and trying to control the Academy for the Superpowered.
But now it seemed Hydra, while not a great threat directly, kept stirring up trouble and drawing out dangerous entities—like this so-called evil god Jörmungandr living deep in the ocean.
Who knows what kind of being it was? Could it be a projection of some dimensional demon god? Otherwise, how could it endanger the entire world?
"Alright, I'll help rescue your loved ones. But you need to find a way to gather more intelligence for me on this Jörmungandr."
After a moment's thought, George agreed to Reina's request.
To him, rescuing those kidnapped loved ones hidden somewhere by Hydra was a trivial matter.
As long as he was given their names, he could use a tracking spell to locate and save them one by one.
What interested him more now was the origin of this so-called evil god Jörmungandr.
"No problem. Our leader Jiaying is usually stationed at Baron Strucker's base and has access to top-level Hydra intel."
Reina nodded quickly.
"Write down the names of those held hostage by Hydra, and bring over your Inhuman who can teleport. I'm heading out."
George gave Reina a few instructions, then asked Professor X to keep an eye on her while he used Phantom Shift once more to return to the New York Sanctum.
He planned to ask the Ancient One whether she knew anything about this Jörmungandr.
"Master George, why are you back again?"
The mage stationed at the New York Sanctum looked surprised when George appeared.
George smiled and said:
"I need to speak with the Sorcerer Supreme. Is she still here?"
"She returned to Kamar-Taj after you left," the stationed mage replied. "If you want to find her, you can go to the second floor—there's a portal there that leads directly to Kamar-Taj."
"Alright, I'll head to Kamar-Taj then."
George turned and walked toward the second floor of the Sanctum.
The mystic mages of Kamar-Taj usually drew circles to open portals, but that consumed their own magic power.
So the Ancient One had constructed magical space portals within each Sanctum. That way, even novice mages who hadn't mastered portal conjuration could use the space doors to travel anywhere in the world.
