On the Wave Country Bridge.
While Naruto, Sasuke, and Haku were engaged in battle, Zabuza and Kakashi began their own fierce fight.
Zabuza released a dense, heavy mist that enveloped the entire bridge and vanished into it, preparing to strike from the shadows. Kakashi responded with a summoning technique, calling forth a pack of ninja dogs that latched onto Zabuza and held him in place.
Then, Kakashi struck a rather theatrical pose and activated the jutsu known as Raikiri—the technique that earned him his nickname, "Copy Ninja."
"I have my own original jutsu too, Zabuza," Kakashi said calmly as he lunged forward, Raikiri in hand.
At that moment, Haku—who had been fighting Naruto and Sasuke—noticed Zabuza was in danger. Ignoring the attacks coming at him, he rushed in front of Zabuza and took the full brunt of Kakashi's Raikiri.
Crack!
The mask on Haku's face shattered, falling in pieces to the ground—revealing his delicate, beautiful features.
"What?!" Naruto gasped in shock.
Wasn't this the girl he met in the forest the other day?
"Why?!" Naruto was confused and stunned.
"He is the most important person to me," Haku murmured.
Those words struck Naruto like lightning. He stood frozen in place.
The most important person...?
Naruto slowly turned to look at Sasuke, then Kakashi and Sakura. His thoughts drifted to Iruka-sensei.
If any of them were in danger, would I hesitate? No—I'd do exactly what Haku just did.
"I understand now," Naruto whispered.
At that moment, Zabuza seized the opportunity. With Kakashi distracted, he raised his beheading sword—but Kakashi was suddenly held in place.
Haku's lifeless arms had wrapped around Kakashi, stopping him from moving.
Zabuza's voice turned cold: "Looks like I picked up a useful tool."
"Die, Kakashi!" Zabuza shouted, not caring that his attack would slice Haku as well.
"What?!" Naruto was horrified.
Haku was his comrade—wasn't he?! Zabuza was going to cut him down too?
Furious, Naruto activated the Vajra Indestructible Divine Art and charged forward, blocking Zabuza's blade. Kakashi pulled Haku away just in time.
Clang!
Crack!
Zabuza's blade met Naruto's golden body—and cracked in two.
Back during their previous fight, the blade had already been damaged when it struck Naruto. Afterward, Zabuza had been too injured to repair it and went straight into this battle without fixing the crack.
This time, striking Naruto again caused the entire blade to snap in half.
"What?!" Zabuza stared at the broken sword, eyes wide in disbelief.
"What the hell is this kid made of? He broke my beheading sword with his head!"
On the other side, Sasuke and Sakura stared at the shattered blade, equally stunned.
They already knew Naruto's Vajra Indestructible technique had powerful defense—but this level of resilience was insane!
The boss's shop really sold terrifying items.
"Even your sword doesn't want to fight for you, Zabuza!" Kakashi said coldly, staring at the hilt left in Zabuza's hand.
"A friend once told me, 'Those who don't cherish their comrades are worse than trash.' You treat your comrade like a tool. You're not worthy of being called a ninja."
Obito's image flickered in Kakashi's memory.
Overwhelmed with anger, Kakashi lashed out and crippled both of Zabuza's arms.
Just as he was about to finish him off, a group appeared at the far end of the bridge.
Surrounded by bodyguards and thugs, Gato walked forward slowly, glancing down at Haku's lifeless body before kicking it hard.
"What kind of garbage are you talking about? He was just a tool!" Gato spat dismissively.
"And that little brat disobeyed my orders. He deserved to die." Gato poked Haku's corpse with his cane in disgust.
"What did you say?!" Naruto growled, trembling with rage.
"What? That guy couldn't even beat a few Genin—he was worthless," Gato sneered.
"You bastard, take that back!" Naruto roared, ready to pounce—but Sasuke and Kakashi held him back.
"That brat was right," a cold voice rang out.
It was Zabuza.
His bloodshot eyes locked onto Gato, brimming with killing intent.
"Tch. You think you deserve an apology from me, you broken-down has-been?!" Gato taunted.
"Kid... lend me your kunai," Zabuza said, a single tear rolling down his cheek.
"Yeah," Naruto nodded, seeing the grief in Zabuza's eyes. He handed over his kunai without hesitation.
"You're right... Haku was my comrade," Zabuza said softly. Then, kunai clenched in his teeth, he charged at Gato and his men.
"That fool thinks he can get through all of us?" a thug sneered, raising his blade.
Shing!
Before he could move, Zabuza vanished—and then reappeared among them.
The thug clutched his neck as blood spilled and fell dead.
In the distance, Naruto watched with tears in his eyes.
Miss… do you see this? Zabuza really did care about you.
Finally, Zabuza broke through the crowd and drove the kunai into Gato's chest, killing him instantly.
Then he too collapsed from his injuries, lying motionless amid the bodies of Gato's men.
He used their lives as a grave offering to the one he lost.
"It's over," Kakashi said quietly.
A few days later, Zabuza and Haku were buried beside each other, and the Wave Country bridge was completed.
To honor Naruto's contributions, the villagers named the bridge The Great Naruto Bridge.
Team 7 packed up and began their journey back to Konoha.
