Chapter 15 - unspoken power

Yami extended a hand toward Sarah and Jayson. A vortex tore open behind him, its edges crackling with dark light. Without a word, he pulled them through—landing them in the streets of Tokyo. The city buzzed, oblivious to the coming storm.

Sophia waited beneath a flickering streetlight, her coat fluttering in the wind. Her eyes locked on Yami with deadly calm.

Yami's voice was low. "Who are you?"

Sophia tilted her head, eyes narrowing. "That's not important. You can call me Sophia." She stepped forward, boots echoing on the asphalt. "I'm here to take your head."

The wind fell silent between them. A heartbeat passed.

Then chaos struck.

Yami lunged, his body blurring with speed. His strikes came fast—clean, calculated, brutal. Each punch carried the whisper of shadow, slicing through the air like blades.

Sophia blocked with a flash of her palm. Darkness erupted in a wave.

"Descend." Her voice echoed with power.

Yami flipped back, the wind lifting him into a graceful arc. A soft blue aura pulsed around him—Wind Dancer in full motion. He skimmed the rooftops, light as mist.

But Sophia wasn't done.

She snapped her wrist. Tendrils of black lashed out, snaring toward him.

"Bind him."

Yami threw up a radiant shield. "Aurora Guard."

Light collided with shadow. The impact boomed through the street.

He retaliated in a burst, dark energy surging from his core. The blast struck Sophia hard, forcing her back.

She didn't flinch. Her eyes burned brighter.

"Implode."

A concentrated beam of darkness lanced toward him. Yami dove, shoulder grazing the pavement. As he rolled, she snapped her fingers—illusions blooming around him like smoke.

"You'll never find me in the dark."

He spun, scanning their faces. Every illusion wore her mocking smile.

Then—darkness howled.

Sophia's real body lifted above the street, summoning a vortex.

"Tornado."

Yami soared inside the chaos, Wind Dancer slicing clean paths through the black cyclone. But then… a whisper curled in his ear. Cold. Familiar.

"Let me in."

Sophia's voice echoed from nowhere and everywhere. Her eyes now glowed with psychic fire.

"Possess him."

Yami froze mid-air, his limbs locking. Something clawed at his mind—twisting, invading.

He gritted his teeth. "Not yet… Not like this."

"Aurora Guard!" Light flared again, purging the shadows from his thoughts.

But Sophia raised her arms one final time. The world seemed to tilt.

"Annihilate."

The street exploded. Yami flew backward, body slamming through concrete. Dust swallowed him.

Meanwhile… in Olympus

Yahiko's hands hovered over Jayson's chest, light glowing between her palms.

"Yami's losing control," she murmured.

Sarah clenched her fists. "Heal him faster. We'll go."

Misami's eyes widened. "We can't wait. We have to help him now!"

Jayson groaned. "Even together… we wouldn't last a minute."

A shock ran through Yahiko's body.

"Something's awakened."

Back in Tokyo

Yami's body trembled. Then—shifted.

A scream tore from his throat, swallowed by a storm of dark energy. Crimson light bled from his eyes. His muscles warped, bones cracking under the pressure.

The creature had awoken.

Unravelled.

Where Yami once stood, something monstrous rose—a towering, twisted being radiating raw hatred.

Its hand slammed into the street.

"Earthshaker!"

The pavement split like glass. Sophia fell to one knee, stunned.

The creature's hand twisted into a spiral of void.

"Maelstrom!"

The air screamed as the black vortex pulled everything toward it. Sophia's voice broke into a cry as she fought against the pull.

"Inferno."

Flames erupted from the monster's chest, swallowing the street in a column of fire.

Then—

"Slam."

The creature stomped again. Buildings shuddered. Sophia's body was flung like a ragdoll.

Then came its scream.

"Cataclysm!"

A shockwave blasted outward, breaking every window for blocks.

Sophia, bloodied and breathless, crawled through the wreckage. The monster raised both arms.

"Apocalypse."

The sky darkened.

A rumble shook the city's bones.

But inside the storm—

A flicker of blue. A heartbeat of light.

Yami, buried beneath rage and madness, stirred.

"No..."

The beast twitched.

"I won't… be your puppet."

His soul flared.

Light. Will. Hope.

"Get OUT!"

The vortex shattered.

Sophia collapsed to the ground as the storm collapsed. Yami knelt in the ruins, gasping for breath. The monstrous energy receded.

She stared at him, barely whispering.

"...Yami?"

He gave a weak smile. "It's over."

And then fell.

The vortex opened. Olympus had arrived.

Sarah barked orders. "Jayson—now!"

Jayson didn't hesitate. He moved behind Sophia and brought her down with a swift strike, catching her as she slumped.

The others rushed to Yami's side.

Sarah's voice was sharp. "Pick him up—fast. Cops are coming."

As sirens wailed, they vanished through the portal.

The street lay broken.

But they had survived.
