Chapter 249 - Warhammer: Lord of the Endless Monster Horde [249]

Saint Sanguinor looks so much like Sanguinius! He's a mysterious, living saint of the Blood Angels.

Whenever the Blood Angels are in dire straits, he descends to save the sons of Sanguinius.

Recently, Sanguinor has been appearing on the battlefield to help the Blood Angels and their successor chapters.

What was once legend is now confirmed—every surviving son has seen Sanguinor!

He's real, a blessing from Sanguinius. But…

Dante glanced at the rampaging giants on the battlefield and forced a bitter smile.

Great genetic father! When will you send your sons such mighty aid?

Losing out to Guilliman's children stings.

"Chapter Master Dante, the Blood Angels still need you. Please remain composed—perhaps I should escort you to the Angel Keep.

We can talk there. The battle no longer needs the Blood Angels' blood; soon, mortal auxiliaries will arrive," the Ultramarines Captain said.

Supposedly, this old Chapter Master is 1,500 years old—a true relic of the Imperium.

Normally, such relics would be interred in Dreadnoughts.

Dante is the only one still active as an Astartes at that age. Even among long-lived Space Marines, that's rare.

The Captain worried something might happen to Dante—a responsibility he could not bear.

"Captain, I have calmed down. Please notify Lady Elena or Lord Rhodes that Chapter Master Dante of the Blood Angels requests an audience," Dante said, taking a deep breath.

Despite being overwhelmed, he maintained the Blood Angels' etiquette—Sanguinius' sons must repay their debts.

In this desperate hour, they had saved Sanguinius' sons and his homeworld. As Chapter Master, he had to thank them in person.

"Understood, Chapter Master Dante. I'll notify Lady Elena at once!

As for Lord Rhodes, it may take longer—he's currently fighting the Tyranid fleet in space," the Captain replied.

Lord Rhodes truly was a hero—piloting an ancient Golden Age warship, daring to duel the entire Leviathan Hive Fleet, even suppressing it.

A miracle!

"Is that so? Then we can't just stand idle. Leaving 100,000 here should be enough to mop up the bugs on the planet.

The rest should board ships to support the Primarch.

We can use the teleportation tech for boarding actions—attack the Tyranid hive ships directly.

That teleportation method we just used is perfect for boarding tactics," Dante said, shifting into tactical planning.

By his estimate, there were at least 600,000 warriors present—more than three Great Crusade legions.

Such strength shouldn't be wasted. Leave 100,000 Marines with the mortal auxiliaries to finish off the bugs. The surface Tyranids had already endured strikes from five terrifying Titans.

Without hive ship support, they were no longer a threat. To win, they had to take the fight to the hive ships.

Dante noted that the teleportation tech used was mass-scale and could send boarding parties straight to the bio-fleet.

"No need, Lord Dante! Lord Rhodes' orders are to handle the Tyranid hive fleet personally.

Our only mission is to clear the Tyranids from Baal's surface," the Captain replied, shaking his head.

Rhodes had repeatedly stressed: no one was to come assist. Their only task was to clear the surface.

For the satellites, they'd already sent 10,000 warriors to each—no problem there.

The main planet's fight would end soon; this time, they held the absolute advantage.

"You're being foolish! The Primarch's safety is the top priority! Leave some troops here, the rest should board ships to support him.

The Blood Angels and our successors should have about a dozen ships; with your forty or so, that's over sixty battle barges—enough to help," Dante insisted.

Even with Golden Age weapons, one person against the entire Tyranid hive fleet was pushing it.

"Chapter Master Dante! By order of Lord Rhodes, you are to rest at the Chapter Fortress.

From here, the Universal Guard will take over the battlefield," Titus announced, approaching Dante.

Half the planet was already secured; the rest of the Tyranids wouldn't last the day.

"Universal Guard? Is that your Legion's name, or your Chapter's?" Dante asked.

Two new Primarchs, one old one restored, three legion-level Astartes appeared, and Dante, the 1,500-year-old Chapter Master, sensed something.

The Astartes Legions—the Adeptus Astartes—might be returning!

Was the Universal Guard the name of the new Legion? Honestly, he thought "Galactic Guard" might suit better, since humanity's main activity was in the galaxy.

"That's right! Not long ago, the Primarch confirmed our Legion's name—the Universal Guard," Titus replied.

"Very well! The Primarch is confident—I have nothing more to say.

But we have another problem—while the Tyranid swarm invaded Baal, our old enemy, the Khorne Daemon Cabaha, led a daemon army here from the Warp.

Captain Titus, you must organize a force to deal with the Khorne Daemon—bring the Emperor's Avatar, or the Custodian, or the female Primarch," Dante urged.

The Blood Knights, a successor Chapter already excommunicated by the Imperium for succumbing to Sanguinius' curse, had gone to fight Khorne's daemon.

Chapter Master Sentor Jool led them all to a bloody last stand.

If the Primarch didn't need their support, then best to help there.

"Report! Bad news, Chapter Master! Lord Mephiston has awakened and brought more bad news—a Slaanesh army has appeared!" cried a Blood Angel from the Angel Keep.

Everyone was shocked—Chaos had come.

"Of all times, Slaanesh had to show up too," Dante growled.

Inside the Angel Keep, two Blood Angels were helping a tall man: Mephiston, the Chapter Librarian.

"Mephiston, I told you to rest—the battle isn't so bad anymore," Dante said.

"Dante, I have more bad news. This Slaanesh army isn't simple.

Leading them is a Slaanesh Greater Daemon, or a Daemon Prince, or a Chosen—I can't tell what it is, but it's very dangerous," Mephiston said.

"Slaanesh Greater Daemon? Chosen? Daemon Prince and you can't tell?" Dante's face changed.

He knew Mephiston's power—a normal daemon or prince wouldn't faze him. What was this thing he couldn't even identify?

Elsewhere, the Khorne daemons laughed, seizing the invasion.

Led by the Khorne Daemon Ka'Bandha, an enormous daemon army arrived on Baal.

The Blood Knight Chapter Master was already dead, the whole Chapter slain.

"Children, blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!

Offer the blood of all Sanguinius' sons to mighty Khorne!" bellowed Ka'Bandha, holding up Sentor Jool's head.

Just then, a purple sword beam hundreds of meters long blasted Ka'Bandha away.

A figure in ornate purple armor, wielding a purple daemon sword, appeared.

"Die, Khorne Daemon!"

The Slaanesh slayer laughed. His master had just enhanced his Slaanesh powers, tearing open the rift between reality and the Warp, summoning a horde of Slaanesh daemons.

Countless Slaanesh daemons poured out, naturally following this being—a Slaanesh champion.

"Come, children! Let's kill all the Khorne scum, for our great Prince of Dark Pleasure!" the Slaanesh Slayer roared, charging with the daemons.

The Slaanesh daemons didn't know who this new boss was, but he must be a great daemon or prince—he had purple armor, a master's sword, and a powerful aura.

So, they followed him.

"Kill all the Khorne!"

And so, Khorne and Slaanesh's armies clashed in a bloody melee.
