Dual POV – Lily and Daniel
LILY
The building had emptied hours ago. Only the low hum of the ventilation system and the occasional distant elevator chime kept her company. Her bare feet curled against the edge of her office chair, heels long discarded under her desk. The fluorescent lights had dimmed overhead, casting a warm gold over the glass walls, making everything feel softer. Less sterile. Less professional.
She stretched her arms over her head, spine arching with a groan, and when she glanced across the corridor to Daniel's office, the light was still on.
Of course it was.
He hadn't left either.
A flicker of warmth coiled low in her belly—part admiration, part ache. They were always the last two. She wasn't sure when that started to feel deliberate.
