Chapter 23 - Seeing only Red

"Don't you dare leave this room Selene."

"But dad—?" Tears welled up in her eyes and she blinked them back. She was getting too emotional lately and that wasn't in the plan on spurring her father to let her at least do a thing she wants.

"You created this Selene!" He yelled at her. Something her father never did "I warned you but you didn't listen now look. Everything is going to be destroyed soon. The other human countries and creatures see us as evil alchemists. But are we Selene? No. But You made us look that way. Now the only thing you can do is stay here while I try my best to clean up this mess"

The tears she has been holding rolled down her cheeks, her chin wobbled and she fell to the floor. Her father combed his hair with his fingers in an aggressive way. He sat on his haunches, kissing her forehead countless times as he tucked a strand of hair beneath her ears "I'm sorry Selene. I'm really sorry for shouting at you" he exhaled hauling her into his embrace "The council is on my neck. They are trying to remove me which hasn't been something they hid from anyone even before now but your past actions and present events and consequences from it are…are something that…that…I love you" he kissed her forehead again.

"Dad I'm sorry"

"Shhh. Shh, my dear. Ash and I will fix everything back"

"But the war is increasing everyday. Please let me help. I promise I won't harm myself or put myself in harm's way. My mana is no longer weak or low, everyone in the Tower of Babel knows it, you could—"

"You are helping Selene" he kissed her head one last time before standing, her eyes looking up at him "how?"

"By staying here while I know you are safe" with that he left not turning even to her sobbing sound.

Back at the borders where the sounds of gunshots and explosions resounded, zayn had adopted a position on the floor with his hands on his ear and his face strained. Shoutings and yellings of voice and words he couldn't decipher.

His eyes closed and he saw himself back on the floor with his father lying in the pool of his own blood. Sirens blaring in the distance and the constant noise of the people that had gathered but all he could see was the shadow standing far behind everything, watching from the sidelines.

The sight was so surreal and uncanny that when he explained his father was hit with a car and the even that transpired they took him in like a child that was having issues with having seen his father die. A voice came in his head but this time not the animated voice that normally speaks but a robotic voice, like the shadow that appears out of nowhere to him.

He opened his eyes and blinked it repeatedly, clearing the haze of what he saw and heard just now. Due to the haze and everything he was unable to hear what the shadow said but he knew he would recognize that voice anywhere and anytime.

He tried standing but his legs failed him with squatting for a long time. He knelt down instead but it didn't sit well so he sat on his butt. Everywhere was calm, the tent was empty including the ammunition. He didn't know for how long he was out but maybe it would have been long with how the place was.

Only tables and empty spaces. He crawled forward before standing and moving outside and what welcomed him made him stagger back with his mouth and eyes wide open gazing at it.

There with ash standing and who he could fathom were the magic users like Selene and other people. The mages and alchemists stood in front of a creature that drooled with saliva and pores over its body. Eyes over his face that he wondered where his noise and mouth would be.

"Step back, the eyes" Ash's voice went through the silence and all the eyes of the big creature went to him, releasing lasers. He shuddered. What sort of place and creatures was this. The big foot marched toward him and he stepped back. Flinging the sword in his hand, he closed his eyes, his head up in the sky as the wind moved around them but most especially him and the creature.

The other people had moved away. He didn't chant or whisper things like Selene. His hands wide open in the air, he knelt down, his head still tilted up in the sky and the creature roared. The lasers from his eyes twitched, fire-like lighting striking everywhere and he lay down, others doing the same from his peripheral view.

The wind whirled more and around, it took the tent with it. He didn't know if he should run away in the middle of this, scared he was going to be next. Closing his eyes and dropping his head on the ground, in what felt like hours he heard more roaring and then a calmness to still he didn't open his eyes.

"STAND UP" a robotic voice resounded in his head. He didn't know if he should be happy that the talkative animated voice was out or the commanding voice was trying to control him in his own body however he still stayed that way.

"Stand up" he heard again but this time not the robotic voice but a familiar voice which he didn't want to wish that he had died while he was in the middle of that wind. He groaned inwardly, since he came here, the level of evil thoughts in his head was taking him off guard.

"Are you planning in sleeping there forever. It will be our pleasure but there's more use to you than leaving you here to waste away. There are…shit" Ash flew back with force but with his stamina he maintained his stance.

Zayn stood up and the only thing he saw was red and that red stood at the end with a scowl in his face ready to fight but zayn wasn't here for that as he stomped towards ash.
