Chapter 110 - Chapter 110: Tentacle Monster

As someone who had dealt with many superpowered individuals, Nick immediately sensed that something was different here.

Typically, people with superpowers acquire their abilities due to genetic mutations caused by extreme environmental changes. Like a mutant in Hong Kong, Chan Ho Yin—a low-level street magician who gained the ability to control fire after an incident near a burning nuclear power plant.

However, Chan Ho Yin was just a mutant with one specific ability. The man remained an ordinary human in other aspects. If injured, he bled. If he walked too long, he felt tired.

In short, genetic mutant powers generally consist of just one type.

But what was on the screen right now was clearly different.

In one recording, the woman had already demonstrated four types of powers: flying, energy projection, rapid healing, and lightning movement.

"Sir, do you think..."

Before Coulson could finish his sentence, Nick furrowed his brow and muttered, "Sorcerer..."

In an instant, awareness hit Nick.

The sorcerers they had encountered before indeed displayed various kinds of powers, but this? This was even more terrifying.

Coulson said, "According to the information provided by Nancy and Sidney, the Sorcerers have been around for a long time, but they rarely show themselves. However, in the past few days, they have started to appear one by one. Does this mean they plan to present themselves to the public?"

Nick pondered for a moment, his gaze sharp, as if weighing the possibilities behind this phenomenon. After a few long seconds, Nick shook his head and said in a serious tone, "It seems we need to meet with Mr. White as soon as possible."

The Sorcerer community, possessing great power, is too dangerous a threat to the balance of the human world. If they truly surface and begin to engage in global conflicts, the impact will be far broader than just a shift in political power. This imbalance could shake the existing international system, and if not handled properly... it is not impossible that World War III could break out.

Suddenly...

The image on the screen changed.

Smoke and fire billowing from the Henderson Building suddenly exploded violently, covering the sky with flames that formed a terrifying shadow—like writhing tentacles, reaching in all directions. From a low angle, the burning building looked like an ancient creature rising from hell.

Below, the atmosphere turned into total chaos.

Heart-wrenching screams echoed in the air. People unaware of what was happening ran in panic, their faces filled with uncontrollable fear. Some stumbled over debris, while others collided with one another in a desperate attempt to escape.

Reporters left their cameras behind, firefighters abandoned hoses that were still spraying wildly, medical personnel left their first aid kits, while injured patients crawled on the ground with blood seeping from their reopened wounds.

The horror was difficult to express in words.

"Get out now!"

"Understood, we will leave immediately!"

Coulson nodded firmly, then turned and exited the room quickly, immediately gathering a team of agents to depart.

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters was in Washington, D.C., only about 300 kilometers from New York. With the speed of a Quinjet, Coulson could arrive at the scene in just a few minutes.

Nick remained standing in place, his expression hardening. His mind raced, analyzing every possible outcome.

Nick's sixth sense screamed—this disaster was bigger than it appeared.

Just as that thought crossed Nick's mind, something happened.

The burning Henderson Building suddenly collapsed.

From behind the flames and swirling smoke, something large moved.

Then, a giant creature thrust its head out from the rubble.

The monster appeared to be a mass of large, intertwining tentacles, its body towering high above the debris of the destroyed building. Its trunk was short and stout, supported by claw-like legs that dug into the ground. Its crown was a collection of writhing tentacles, each with a large mouth filled with sharp teeth, and terrifying, wrinkled claws. From the gaps in its slimy skin, round eyes emerged, observing the surroundings with an inhuman gaze.

Thick green liquid dripped from its body, emitting a foul odor that made the air around it tremble.

Just seeing it on the screen was enough to make one's hair stand on end. Nick, who usually had a heart of steel, felt something he rarely experienced—fear.

"Are human weapons enough to fight a creature like this?" Nick murmured, his voice barely audible.

The live report from the scene suddenly cut off. Quickly, Nick ordered the S.H.I.E.L.D. satellite to be directed to the location, trying to regain visual of the ongoing disaster.

The image reappeared on the screen.

There, the monster had completely flattened the Henderson Building. Its four massive tentacles were raised high, then slammed down onto the surrounding buildings.

However, before those buildings could collapse...

A flash of white light shot through.

A glowing figure hovered in the air, raising its hand, and in that instant, a giant pillar of lightning struck from the sky.

Explosion!

The four tentacles were cleanly severed in one strike. The severed parts immediately ignited into char, releasing thick smoke and the smell of burnt flesh that spread into the air.

The monster roared loudly, opening its three mouths dripping with green slime. The thick liquid dripped from its sharp teeth and fell to the ground, eroding the surface of the road until it melted.

"White Lantern Messenger?" Nick recalled that name—something Christine had just mentioned.

However, upon closer inspection, Nick shook his head and said heavily, "No... this isn't that woman. This is someone different... and this man is much stronger."

Nick clenched his fist.

"Just as I thought," Nick whispered, "they're not just people with superpowers. They are an organization with power far beyond our expectations."

That thought weighed heavily on Nick's mind. If they were too powerful to be controlled... what would happen to this world?

A thought crossed Nick's mind—something that even he didn't want to admit.

Maybe... it would be best for Nick to call for backup and let that person handle this on their own.
