"Hungry?" His tone was almost smug. She could hear the faintest hint of amusement. "You know, that was a mighty loud reminder. Can't ignore that."
"I'm not a child, Eyrx," she snapped, crossing her arms.
His eyes didn't soften, not by much, but his lips tugged up ever so slightly. "You will eat."
He gave her one final glance before standing up, his muscles flexing as he made his way toward the small fire pit where a meager pile of dried meat and some wild vegetables rested.
Thalina blinked. "Wait, what? You are going to cook?" She stared at him, eyes wide with disbelief. "Since when do you know how to cook?"
Plus wasn't this beast afraid of fire?
For a moment, there was nothing but the crackling of the fire and the quiet rustle of leaves in the morning breeze.
Eyrx didn't immediately respond.
He was already kneeling beside the fire, the faint glow of the flames casting shadows across his features.
But then, without looking up, he spoke again, his voice quiet but firm.
