"I'll have a talk with Minerva," Albus promised, but he wasn't in any hurry to do it. Minerva also knew Lily's spell to set his bum on fire and she had threatened to use it on him the night of the welcoming feast.
"I don't know how he expects to defeat You-Know-Who while sitting on his bum and letting Snivellus, Lily, and Minerva control everything to do with Harry," James grumbled as they left Albus' office.
"What the hell happened to Lily? She always believed everything Albus said before," Sirius asked.
"She never would obey me when I told her to quit owling Snivellus and Narcissa Malfoy."
"I know you did and I heard you tell her we couldn't trust any of those rotten Slytherins because they were all followers of You-Know-Who."
"Maybe Remus could bring Harry over to Potter Mansion so we can instruct him on the best tactics to defeat You-Know-Who. We're Aurors and Snivellus is just a dark wizard," James suggested.
"No, you saw how Remus was the last time we made a suggestion to him about Harry," Sirius replied with a shake of his shaggy head. "Snivellus would probably stop brewing the Wolfsbane Potion in revenge."
"Yeah, Snivellus always was a bully."
When they returned to headquarters, Mad-Eye was waiting for them. "What did you find out about that sighting I sent you on?" A witch had reported a Death Eater sighting in her neighborhood and Mad-Eye had sent James and Sirius.
James suddenly realized they had forgotten all about their assignment that Moody had sent them on.
"Nothing to it," Sirius lied easily. "We talked to her neighbors and they said she's paranoid and always seeing Death Eaters going through her dustbins."
Moody nodded and said, "Fine. Now get to work on that backlog of case sightings." He knew they were both lazy and probably hadn't bothered interviewing the witch. He would need to assign someone else to do it. "Glory hounds," he muttered and then yelled for one of the younger Aurors.
James and Sirius hurried over to their desks and sat down each grabbing a scroll from the pile on another desk and pretended to be reading them.
Harry and his friends visit with Hagrid went without incident because they all listened to what Hagrid had to say about the Porlock. Hermione and Millie were thrilled because they got to pet a unicorn. For some reason unicorns distrusted males, but not females. Hagrid told them about the Centaurs that also lived in the Forbidden Forest and the Merpeople who lived in the Black Lake along with the Giant Squid. "Professer' Dumbledore speaks Mermish. Don' know how he learnt it, but he can speak it."
"That is wicked," Draco said as they walked back up to the castle. "I wonder how he learned it and if there is anyone that could teach it."
"Are you interested in learning it so you can talk to a mermaid, Draco?" Millie teased.
"My dad said Merpeople live a really long time," Greg said. "So imagine all the history they've probably seen? That alone would be worth talking to them and hearing the stories they have to tell."
"Maybe Cedric knows something more about it," Neville said. He admired Cedric greatly and he'd promised he'd help him study for his final exams.
"We can certainly ask him," Harry replied. "He's always willing to answer any questions we have. I invited him to visit Witches Moon this summer with everybody else. He said he'd ask his parents and let me know."
"Wicked! Maybe we can have a pickup game of Quidditch," Draco said. "We should have enough players."
"I'm sure we can since there's no other houses around for miles so we don't have to worry about being seen on our brooms by Muggles. Maybe I can convince mum and dad to join us too."
That night Severus, Lily, Narcissa and Lucius searched the Room of Requirement for the Ravenclaw Diadem, but once again their search was futile. "I don't think we are ever going to find that last horcrux," Lucius declared.
"I have not had any report from Blinky so far and I am guessing none of the elves have seen it yet either," Severus replied.
"We can't give up; we'll just have to keep searching," Lily said. She had tried a Point-Me spell, but it hadn't worked.
"We can try again tomorrow evening," Narcissa decided.
"Right now I am returning to my quarters and going to sleep. I need to be up early tomorrow morning," Severus announced.
"We'll see you tomorrow evening then," Lily said as she headed down to the 4th floor. "Same time, same place."
Lucius and Narcissa followed Lily back to her quarters and flooed back to Malfoy Manor.
The next morning Severus rose at 6:00 and met Lily and Harry in his quarters for an early breakfast and then the three flooed to St. Mungo's. Severus had a box of vials containing the potion for the Longbottoms shrunken and protected against breakage in his pocket. They arrived at the Janus Thickey Ward where Healer Duvall was waiting outside. "Ready?" Severus asked him.
Healer Duvall nodded. "Mrs. Longbottom is waiting inside with Alice and Frank." They went into the ward, closing the door behind them.
Lily and Harry made themselves comfortable in the chairs outside the ward. Lily transfigured thick cushions for them as she didn't know how long the entire procedure would take. Harry opened his Charms textbook. "Mum, could you help me with this. I swear I'm pants at Charms," Harry asked with a shake of his head.
Lily laughed. "I had a lot of trouble with Transfiguration, but your Aunt Cissa helped me with it."
"Dad said he had trouble with both Transfiguration and Charms, but you and Aunt Cissa tutored him and he eventually got an Exceeds in both."
"Yes, Sev always tried to force his magic for some reason when it came to those two subjects. We had to teach him to relax and just let his magic flow easily."
