After walking for a while, we stood at the edge of the fallen house the atmosphere around the well was quietly unassuming, just like before.
As we got closer, Jaipa dropped the squirming sack on the ground, and something growled inside it i knelt down and pulled the sack open, revealing the creature a four-armed beast with cracked scales and a missing eye
We had just taken one monster with us because who knows if this well doesn't accept monster blood then all of our efforts would have gone to waste checking things ourselves before working on it seemed better to me
I looked at it for a while, then slit its throat, letting the red blood pour into the well Looking at the blood, At first, I had thought monster blood wasn't red, but all of the monsters in that forest had red blood definitely different from usual
The blood hit the well's edge and just vanished! Just like before, the same way it had happened with the sheep.
Jaipa frowned, breaking his words stumbling out "What... what... is happening here why ? "
"So monster blood also wasn't the correct answer "
The correct answer i had known from the start the meaning behind those words in the sky all of it i was just avoiding things Why? Why was i avoiding things I had no idea about it, but in the end truth came to bite me
I stared at the blood vanishing, noting just how fast it disappeared, how eagerly it was rejected
And then… I extended my arm just to check one thing and pulled out my iron blade
"Hey... Rudra, what are you thinking?" Jaipa asked
I should have done this from the start. Because of me, I was led to the door of death helplessly, and the thing that bothered me most was that all of this was a meaningless thing I had wasted my time on
I put my blade on my palm and cut without hesitation blood welled out, warm and red human blood.
It hit the stone, and for a moment, nothing seemed to happen except one thing my hand had healed. It seems my healing ability had also progressed
Then suddenly it swirled in
The red liquid didn't vanish like the other one it stayed there, not even getting absorbed, twisting slowly into the well's mouth
Jaipa stumbled back. "Uh..."
Then with a hesitation-filled voice, he said, "Why is it happening this way?"
"No... no... it can't be that ! "
It seemed he had understood the true meaning behind all of it there were too many hints given to us from the start the path of blood was the most obvious line, but I had intended not to take action on it Looking at Jaipa's face, I thought he needed time to accept the truth
What we needed to do, to get out of this place was to kill humans... For a person like me, I wouldn't feel much of a guilty, but he was different he could feel emotions guilt, sadness everything we were just opposite sides of the same coin
Giving him some space, I took a few steps away and sat on the ground, touching the bumps on my head
"Uh... it feels weird."
Looking at the sky, the sun hung high and bright, with a red tint present
I should calculate how many humans we need to kill to fill it completely. Looking at its depth and width, it wasn't that deep nor that wide, but still considerable 15 feet deep and two meters wide taking into calculation that an average adult human has about 5 liters of blood, we would need to kill approximately 2,872 people to fill the well
After the battle with Rakta, the effect of this world had been down for a while, but now I was noticing it again if we dragged this any longer, we could die for real the fear had become too obvious
Since I had entered the world of 48H from that day on, I was at the doors of death continuously, just not able to enter it for a kid of my age, all of this was overwhelming, but I was different from normal kids even then, all of this felt a little too overwhelming
Glancing at Jaipa, then back at my blade the iron blade was going dull. As for my wooden blade, after going through eating my horn, I had expected it might be helpful, but it was just a sturdy piece of shit, nothing more
Then suddenly Jaipa stood beside the well and looked at me
"How should we proceed with it?"
I could just tell by looking at him he was not ready for it even if he didn't look human, killing innocent people was too much for people like him
"We... we can't just drag hundreds of people here from the middle of the city and kill them here it will consume too much of our time, and there's a risk of news spreading," I interjected before he could finish his words
"We need to kill 2,872 humans to fill this well."
Upon hearing my words, he swallowed with a gulp and went silent, slowly sitting down as if his body and mind were disturbed. I was not good at feeling emotions, but I was good at recognizing them the expression on his face was telling me he couldn't handle it, never
I didn't know what to say in this kind of situation, so I just let him be
"That's why I don't get tangled in emotions and relationships "
But I just couldn't afford to waste more time i turned to him and looked at him, saying, "Let's get to work before it's too late " i wasn't forcing him it just the time that was making me do it
He lifted his head up with a face full of guilt and said, "WE SHOULD!"
As he stood up and asked, "What's the plan?" his expression remained the same as before
Looking at him, I said, "Nothing we will just kill one human, and others will follow us"
Saying it, I started to walk towards the city
