"I don't believe you," Zephyr said firmly, his strong gaze heavy on Isolde.
She found courage and looked up, meeting his eyes. She had been avoiding his gaze since she entered the Alpha's office.
Even with his Beta and Gamma sitting quietly in the back, Zephyr's presence filled the room.
"I swear on my dead father, Alpha Zephyr," Isolde said weakly, her chest tight with fear. "I am not working for anyone."
Zephyr's eyes looked deeper into hers.
"So, why did you get close to the prisoner?" he asked.
"I felt sorry for her, Alpha," Isolde said. It was almost a lie.
She had felt pity for Selene when she saw her, but the main reason she had become interested in Selene was Jareth.
He had told her to get as much information about the stranger and wanting to impress him, she had agreed.
Now, she trembled because of the way Zephyr was looking at her, as if searching for the truth in her eyes.
