Chapter 163 - Source Origin(13)

It was a peculiar structure, it was a kind of door, no doubt about it, and yet, it was still not exactly a door to something, it was simply a constantly moving structure, a frame without something inside, no natural material at least, the only thing spanning inside of it visible by his newly acquired mana sense, a kind of silver wall, a something that Cades could not comprehend, but there was something else, there was something else on that constantly moving silver construct, there was a drawing, or, perhaps, a kind of engraving, Cades didn't even really know how this all worked with this kind of a theoretical material such as the one he was now looking at.

On the door he was now looking at, the door that emanated a soundless call that he heard within his very soul, the call that had been leading him through the endless nothing for a long time, despite him not even noticing, the call that had forced the morbid butterfly to head here, the call that was now resonating right in front of him, the call that had now mostly dissipated, as if it was the middle of an endless storm, the call that was now right in front of him, on that invisible material with that very weird engraving atop that somehow managed to unnerve Cades quite a lot.

The drawing, or whatever it was, was not particularly special, it was not excruciatingly detailed or even well-made at all, actually, it reminded Cades of something he would've drawn as a child, unrecognisable when it came to just a simple drawing, but he somehow knew what was depicted there, he felt it deep within his very being, he felt something claw upon him, feed on his worries as he looked atop it, he felt something strengthen something deep within him, neither of the things recognizable to his soul and neither to his mind, he felt something resonate as he gazed upon the invisible drawing on the invisible frame in the door frame without an exit, as he gazed upon a six-fingered hand with no thumps, simply all long fingers, a total of two middle fingers and two pinkies, unnaturally long.

Cades felt something move, this time not within himself, no, he felt almost as if the hand was gesturing for him to come towards it, to enter the dark embrace of whatever might be within that magical, invisible, door, a door he just couldn't cleanly comprehend with his current magical capabilities, and neither his capabilities when it came to intent, but he was certain of one thing, whatever had created that thing was more than capable of just killing him here and now, but it wasn't doing that, instead it was helping him, because, if the door hadn't been here, he would've just had to stay on these floating tower-like hats for all of eternity, perhaps the original goal of back when they didn't know he was able to climb.

Nevertheless, his head sunk deep within his fascination with both the unknown, magical, material and the call that was quite unnerving to be without after all this time, the call that he now, slowly, began to realize had been calling for him even outside of this place, even within his home, even when he tried to sleep, the call that had been keeping him awake when something was wrong, the call that had warned him, the call that had made him slower that day when Ehetria fell, this was that very call, this was something that had always been with him, and now, finally, he was moving toward sit's source, a source which he was very keen on finally figuring out after these seventeen years of hearing the call within his soul, after only feeling something to be missing after it ended here, and after it grew far stronger in this place, leading him like a dog on a leash.

Cades didn't know what happened, but he almost fell down, his hands already being stretched out in front of his body, his legs feeling heavy, as if something was grabbing them, and as soon as he noticed, he felt it, he felt that something was indeed messing with his legs, an invisible silver light in the form of hands grabbing him as if to stop him to enter that door, something that was quite obviously the reason when he thought about it once more, feeling stupid on his second try.

It was not really powerful, it was simply annoying, he just hadn't really been walking with enough power, he hadn't even thought about strengthening it all, he had not even thought about anything at all, he had simply been walking ahead without any worries, it was as if they had failed, as if they wished for him to be spared of whatever they had begun, and as they tried to stop Cades, despite him not even realizing their intentions, the eyes of the surrounding beasts, still growing as bright as ever, though Cades had become immune to that light, began to look.. sad... for lack of a better term.

However, Cades didn't really care, he simply walked ahead, ripping the silver hands apart, putting a tiny bit of magic into his legs, uncaring about any of them, simply wishing to enter the mysterious, invisibly door that had been calling for his presence, for his arrival to this place ever since he could think, perhaps even before that, perhaps even back when he hadn't been born, perhaps when he was just being conceived, perhaps it was even the call that his parents had called the spark of their love, no, that was just insane.. but at this point Cades was willing to believe even that if there was someone who told him that that was the truth.

Yes, the truth, that was exactly what Cades wished to figure out with this door, now, after all this time, after being lost in the realm of nowhere, after all his suffering, perhaps this was the answer, and if not the door itself, then he was sure that whatever was inside would hold the desired answer.

Finally, as he had stepped close enough, dozens of the hands having grown in his trail and having been ripped apart, still standing atop the ancient creature as grim reminders, as if they had tried to escape their graves, not even realizing how he was doing it, he pushed the door open.
