Chapter 114 - Endless Chain(15)

He had been crossly wrong, it had taken him much, much longer than he had first expected, due to the simple fact that the length of the chain seemed to change and lengthen itself, even when he repeatedly tried out his new active, during which he also learned that the price and severity of whatever was missing was heightened the further he went, at least from what he could tell, which wasn't much.

It was however very disorienting as he later found out, after all, not even momentum was nullified and neither was it translated or added, the momentum was simply the same, for example, if he took a step and used the warp during that he would have to finish that step wherever he landed, if he was thrown away and somehow used the warp, perhaps by gaining more practice with it and gaining the capability of activating it that fast, then he would still fly through the air wherever he had been pushed towards, and as far as he could see even towards the same direction, though that could perhaps be changed with some more practice.

Nevertheless, even though it took him about a whole week despite already having seen the thing and being relatively close to it as he had previously thought, he had finally arrived at the island that had now stopped changing itself.

Finally, after he had an entire breakdown because of the fact that he didn't get any closer, punching the chains a few times as hard as he could with one arm and, of course, without any magical strengthening, something that really helped with his anger at the current situation, he was only a singular jump away, ready to jump atop the island on which there was now a simple temple that did look quite a bit different from all the others he had met up to now.

Instead of a simple but beautiful five-sided temple as all the ones he had seen up to now this one was decorated with a gigantic statue atop, one that resembled a child if at all, and not just any child, but the child that everyone imagines when they close his eyes, a child that looked like the very definition of an average child, actually the statue seemed to look different each time Cades looked at it, the first time he looked at it the child had been female with a weird dress and ehetrian wings, the next time the wings were gone and she had long, spiralling horns, after that she looked just like a wingless ehetrian, after that the statue was of a boy instead and had another weird part, the skin was weirdly glossy, with small patches, but either way, the statue always looked like a child.

And it was always made of a constantly moving metal, one that looked quite similarly to the silver he felt that he already knew far too well, seeing that the silver had also been spread out all over the last few miles of the chain, constantly moving into him in the forms of the strings, similarly to the violet strings that had once moved into his body whenever he slew an opponent, something that hadn't happened for quite some time now.

The statue might have changed, it's clothes most often consisting of a piece of cloth wrapped around the whole body like a toga covering the chest completely, perhaps comparable to wearing two togas at once, the dress gliding down until it meets the ceiling of the five-sided temple that was much bigger than normal in this case, with the temple being about a hundred feet tall and the statue being about five hundred foot tall at the very least, despite the height of the thing constantly changing whenever he looked at it, once it was so big that he could not even imagine it, looking like a baby lizard, another time it looked like a literal egg, but nevertheless it was always covered, something that Cade had quite honestly been very thankful for.

While looking at the huge statue that now resembled a wingless ehetrian girl with a double-sided toga, covering everything, luckily, he finally jumped atop the island that mainly consisted of gravel and was pretty light, seeing something quite horrible, something that would've made him go into another breakdown had he not been through too many while on this endless chain already, he saw that there was no second chain extending away from this island, he saw that this island was alone, without any connections except for the one to the forest-island from which he had come.

This alone was terrible, however the current Cades didn't even really think about that, he just didn't have the nerve, or even any thoughts left to give that didn't revolve around either killing this dimension, in a way which he had no idea on how to, or jumping into the endless light beyond the depths which he also would never do, mostly because he would just kill himself rather than jump and fall until he probably starved, which in this case would never happen seeing as he had neither eaten nor drunk in a month.

However, Cades really didn't care anymore, he just sighed and pushed the heavy stone doors of the temple, this time decorated in the depictions of an old man and a child standing next to each other, the child looking at his own hand that was held up high and the man looking down at the child, answering the child's hand with his own, resulting in the picture that resembled a grandparent with it's grandchild.

Finally, after they had ever so slowly been opened Cades entered the eerily dark temple, already expecting the silver that was probably inside to rush out and meet him, entering his body by force as it had done so many times before, but instead he was met with something entirely unexpected.

In front of him, as he was standing on eerily still grass that licked at his bare feet, were dozens if not hundreds of closely connected islands that he had previously seen as the island had constantly been changing it's appearance, all of them, all that he could remember and many more, now visible before him.
