Helen's POV
The pack was in ruins, but the battle was ended. As I moved around the camp, I could sense the uneasiness in the air. No one was speaking to me, while others were cleaning up the mess the rogues had left behind and others were ministering to their wounds. When they believed I wasn't listening, they instead whispered.
One of them whispered, "Did you see what she did?"
"She has uncontrollable power. With that explosion, she almost killed us," someone else said.
I felt the sting of their remarks as I balled my fists. I didn't intend to cause harm to anyone. I was attempting to keep the pack and them safe. But it seemed like things would only get worse no matter what I did.
The whisper, "She's dangerous," came from somewhere else. "How can we trust her to lead us when she can't even control herself?"
My heart fell. Even in my pack, I had always felt alienated, but now it was even more so. They feared me now. I had lost the trust of those I had vowed to safeguard.
