Helen's POV
Tension permeated the camp's air. It was felt by all. This would be the last test before the war, which was imminent. I could feel the eyes on me and hear the whispering behind me as I moved through the camp.
One of the pack members said, "She's dangerous."
Another voice warned that she might turn against us.
I tried to ignore them, but the words penetrated deeply. I was fighting more than just Serena and her outlaws. I was fighting against my own pack's fear of me.
As he gave commands to the warriors, Scott stood by the campfire, his expression tight. His eyes softened when he saw me coming, but I could still see the concern in them.
"Helen," he called as he approached me.
With a sorrowful heart, I stopped. "I, Scott..."
He gave a headshake. "You are not required to speak. I need you to comprehend something, even though I know you're having trouble. The pack is frightened.
I said, "I know," as I felt their anxiety crashing down on me.
