His vulgar words made her stomach turn. Shame surged through her chest, but she couldn't speak. She turned her face away, cheeks burning with humiliation. She shook her head faintly, the smallest denial—mute and helpless.
Ross didn't accept silence.
"Answer me," he said, voice hardening with an edge of cruelty, "or I'll make sure you won't even recognize Thomas in the morning. You think I won't? Keep being stubborn, and you'll see exactly how far I'll go."
Colleen's breath caught in her throat. The mention of Thomas—her boyfriend, the boy she loved—sent a fresh wave of panic crashing through her. Her eyes widened. No. Not Thomas. She couldn't bear the thought of him being hurt because of her. Not because of this.
Her last bit of resistance crumbled.
Tears spilled from her eyes, trailing silently down her cheeks. She closed them for a moment, trying to gather the strength to speak. Her voice came out soft and cracked, barely audible.
