Chapter 29 - Pity

- 44 BBY -

- Galidraan -

On the planet of Galidraan, the True Mandalorians have followed the trail of the Death Watch. Sadly, they lost their trail right here, but as it happened, the Governor of Galidraan claimed to have intel on them. Jango Fett and the rest of the True Mandalorians were eager to get this war over with, which had been going on for 16 years and was slowly but surely getting bothersome. But they were warriors, true-bred men and women of war, and they wouldn't ever give up unless their Mand'alor told them to. But the Mand'alor didn't do that. He was back on Mandalore and dealing with the hotpot that was politics on Mandalore, and he was making tremendous progress, even if it was slow, as with all good things. Thanks to his growing wealth, the Mand'alor sent his men weapons, armour and all sorts of resources they could need.

Petyr had warned Jango Fett not to take the job from the Governor of Galidraan, but in his eagerness to finish this war once and for all, he still took it. Jango was wary of the Governor, though, and it was showing. They had been hired to eliminate the rebels and halt the ongoing insurrection in exchange for intelligence on Death Watch.

*Pew pew pew*

The True Mandalorians approach the rebel settlement using their jetpacks and fire from the air, surprising the poorly trained men. Jango crashes into one man and tackles him to the ground, using him to cushion his fall. He moves and shoots another one, as he grabs the man below him and uses him as a human shield, blocking enemy fire. The rest of his men follow a second later, and a slaughter starts. They stand no chance under the unbelievably powerful and fast assault from the Mandalorian warriors. Thoroughbred for war, Jango Fett had reached 22 years of age and was a monster unlike Mandalore had seen in the last century, if you ignore the fact that Petyr existed and Arla Fett, Jango's sister.

He moves across the battlefield, killing a man per shot and then unleashes his flamethrower. He moves his arm around and finally fires two small projectiles from his handguard, causing the main building to explode.

*BOOOM*

"Myles, report," Jango says.

"All opposition has been neutralised," Myles says.

"Head back to camp," Jango commands.

"What about you?"

"I'm going to tell the Governor that the insurrection is over... and to collect our payment."

"What about the Mand'alor's warning? Should I not follow along?" Myles asks.

"No. I'm ready to deal with the man, should he plan anything. Don't worry about it." Jango assures his second in command.

"Very well."

Jango shoots through the sky using his jetpack and flies towards the Governor's castle. He knows that this insurrection was not without its reasons, as the Governor was a corrupt prick, but he would gain intel on Death Watch and wouldn't pass that up. He lands on the balcony and walks in, approaching the Governor right away.

"Hello, Governor. We took care of your problem." Jango says.

He walks right up to the Governor and points his gun in front of his face.

"The Mandalorians have prevailed. Your reign, as shit as it is, is secure. It's time for you to uphold your end of the agreement. You've been harbouring a murderer, you've even funded his attempts to rebuild the Death Watch, after we dealt a finishing blow to him. So tell me... Where is VIZSLA?"

The governor shakes in fear of what is going on, as he was instructed to do all this. Jango is correct in assuming that the Governor knows more than he lets on, as if he hadn't helped Vizsla, the war would have most likely been over already, but it was taxing and bothersome that the corrupt prick was lying through his teeth, and Jango was having none of it.

"He... He left Galidraan."

"That's not the right answer. I killed your enemies... now tell me where to find mine. Or I'll have your servants scrape your brain matter off the wall." Jango threatens, but is alerted as he sees the Governor look in another direction.

The curtains move away, and Tor Vizsla comes forward with his fellow Death Watch, shooting at him.

"I'm right here, Mandalorian!"

*BDOOW BDOOW*

Jango ducks just in time and rushes towards the window, shooting it to pieces and flying off using his jetpack.

"You crossed the wrong man, Governor! This isn't finished!"

He pushes his jetpack to the limits and shoots further away, but Tor Vizsla is a skilled and experienced warrior. He aims his blaster at Jango and fires a precise shot. The blast hits Jango's jetpack, causing it to break down and the man to fall towards the ground.

The Governor looks at the falling Jango, still shaking from the experience.

"Is he dead?" he asks.

"Not likely. But that's about to change." Vizsla says as several spaceships arrive in the sky of Galidraan.

"The Jedi. Perfect timing."

Under the orders of Vizsla, the Governor contacted the Jedi Council and informed them that a group of Mandalorians were murdering 'political activists'. Naturally, this couldn't be ignored by the 'peacekeeping' order of the Jedi, and they sent several Jedi to deal with the problem. Since they would be dealing with Mandalorians, some of the best and most notorious warriors in the galaxy and long-time, at least mostly, enemies of the Jedi, the task force to deal with this was large and contained many Jedi. Leading them was Master Dooku, a former Padawan of the Grandmaster Yoda himself.

"You did as I instructed."

"Yes, I begged them for their help and informed them that the Mandalorians were slaughtering 'political activists, ' which... is basically true," the Governor says.

"Send the Jedi to Jango's camp. And tell them that the Mandalorians have been killing women and children too." Vizsla says.

"But there's no evidence to support that..." the Governor mentions.

"Don't worry, we'll create some."

.

Jango falls to the ground and lands in the thick snow, somewhat cushioning his fall. But the impact still sends a shock through his body.

"Ugh... Myles, do you copy?" Jango asks.

He tries to reach his friend when he sees the Jedi starships in the air.

"Oh no..."

He digs deep into his reserves and rushes through the deep snow, trying to reach his camp.

"Myles! This is Jango! Evac the camp! Evac now!"

[BZZT... Jango -BZZT- Repeat?]

"Myles, my commlink is out, but if you read me, get out now!"

Jango rushes forward as fast as he can. He knows what those starships mean and knows that if they are true here, then they are not here for Death Watch, they are part of the deception that he has fallen into. He remembers what Petyr said and regrets not listening to his Mand'alor more. He knew him for years and hadn't ever seen him make a mistake, but here he was, allowing his ego to get the better of him. After a few minutes, he finally makes it to the camp, but sadly, not fast enough.

"INCOMING!"

14 Jedi arrive at the True Mandalorian's camp, lightsabers ignited and ready for a fight.

"Mandalorians, I am Master Dooku. You stand accused of murder. Surrender now, and we will ensure that you are treated fairly."

"But fight us, and we will bring swift Justice!" Komari Vosa, Dooku's current Padawan, adds.

"Mandalorians, open fire! And shoot the loudmouth first!" Jango orders and starts the fight.

The Mandalorians use their blasters to keep the Jedi at bay, trying to keep them away from them. But this has a different effect, as the Jedi reflect the blaster fire back at the Mandalorians, taking them out. Seeing that this isn't working, Jango quickly changes tactics.

"Cease fire! Cease fire! Chuck your blasters! Switch to projectile weapons!"

So the Mandalorians switch up their attacks and send out their small rockets, managing to harm some of the Jedi, but not really getting the effect they desire. After firing their shots, the Mandalorians attack and move into close combat, utilising their jetpacks to enhance manoeuvrability and surprise attacks. But the Jedi are, after all, the Jedi. They block the attacks or deflect them whenever possible, using either the Force or their lightsabers, and move quickly to cut between the Beskar armour.

"Get airborne. Give me some cover!" Jango tells Myles.

However, as Myles gets into the air, firing off more of his small rockets, Dooku notices this and orders one of his fellow Jedi to take care of it. And he does. The Jedi jumps into the air, and a second after he lands, the two halves of Myles fall to the ground, right next to Jango.

"MYLES!"

Seeing his friend killed, Jango loses it. His mind turns blank, and he gets a boost. He pulls back a Jedi and smashes his head to the ground.

*Crack*

The crack tells him that he has just killed that one. But he is assaulted by two other Jedi right after that. He ducks underneath a horizontal lightsaber strike and at the same time, kicks another one behind him. He picks up a stone in his hand and smashes the third Jedi in the head, cracking his skull as well. Jango breathes and looks at the Jedi who killed his friend. He is angry, but the anger doesn't cloud his mind. He has made peace with the fact that he is the last one left of the True Mandalorians, at least here on the planet and doesn't care what will happen to him.

He throws a handful of snow into the Jedi's face, blocking his vision momentarily. As he predicted, the Jedi swipes his lightsaber in front of him, but Jango ducks underneath the swing and moves forward. He grabs the Jedi's hand, which holds the lightsaber and hits him with a fully powered headbutt, smashing his Beskar helmet against the Jedi's head.

*SMACK*

The Jedi's jaw dislocates, and he bleeds from his mouth and nose, having broken quite a bit. But Jango isn't finished.

"You killed them..."

"huk.. hukk..." the Jedi groans and gurgles.

"... you killed them all," Jango says and strangles the Jedi, killing him.

Almost half of the Jedi were killed. The remaining ones surround Jango, who kneels on the ground, next to his friend and now regrets not having listened to Petyr, more than ever. But Jango is not the only one with regrets; Count Dooku is also regretting this mission.

"What have we done...?"

At that moment, the sound of a starfighter is heard, and everyone looks up to see a strange starfighter slowly descending from the air. If someone were from the future, he or she would recognise this model as the TIE/D Defender Elite. At the top of it stands another Mandalorian with black armour.

[Picture]

"Greetings, Gentlemen." Petyr's deep voice sounds through his Beskar helmet.

The Jedi look at the new arrival warily. They have just lost 6 of their fellow Jedi because of these Mandalorians, and here was another one, approaching them with a different type of starfighter, one none of them had ever seen.

"Who are you?"

"I am a friend of Jango. If you would be so kind as to let him go, we will be on our way."

"Impossible! You Mandalorians have committed murder and will be sent to justice." Komari Vosa shouts in anger.

"Such anger. I thought you didn't have emotions of such nature, or was I wrong? Maybe you're just a bad Jedi? In any case, you are misinformed, because it wasn't we who committed manslaughter. You were deceived and used against us." Petyr says.

"Where is your proof?" Master Dooku asks.

"Proof? I don't carry proof around with me. This was none of your business, and it has resulted in the death of almost half of your men and women. I suggest we leave it at that and forget about today, before the day turns for the worse."

*TSCHHHH*

The Jedi ignite their lightsabers as a response.

"Pity."
