Chapter 28 - We are warriors

Sera was the name of the first chieftainess who stood against Petyr. The challenge was as follows. Sera, whose name means 'accurate', has challenged Petyr to a one-on-one shoot-out. Basically, it is a fight, but only using guns, blasters of any kind. The last one standing would be the winner. This was intense as it meant that you could kill the other if you won. But Petyr wouldn't kill Sera. He would put her through a test, though, to see what a Mandalorian chief was made of.

Both of them are standing opposite each other with their blasters ready. They look at one another, like two cowboys prepared for a showdown. And in a way, that's exactly right. After waiting for a while longer, Sera pulls first and fires at Petyr.

*Pew pew*

But the Mandalorian is no slouch; on the contrary, he is insanely fast for someone who's not a Jedi. But it makes sense, as he has the physical capabilities of Tai Lung and Oogway, whom he copied and could even enhance himself using chi. But he doesn't do that; it wouldn't be correct in this fight.

Petyr fires at Sera, hitting her shots as they arrive. The two move around the area that has been set up for the challenge, which is littered with rising and moving parts and different obstacles to make it as real as possible. Sera, as a Mandalorian chief, is skilled in many forms of fighting and weaponry, but blasters are her speciality. She shoots fast and precisely; if she were fighting anyone else, she would have won already. But Petyr matches and surpasses Sera in all ways.

After changing the blasters around and trying to hit the other, Petyr finally decides to end this fight. He points his blaster forward and shoots at Sera. He manages to hit the blaster in her hand and destroy it. But he doesn't stop there. He fires several times and destroys all the blasters she has on her person, ending the fight and scoring a victory after hitting her helmet a few times.

.

That was the first fight, and it wouldn't be the last, as the other Mandalorian chiefs would never turn down a chance to become Mand'alor like this. They were Mandalorians, after all —a warrior people for several thousand years.

The second fight was a one-on-one fight, the Mandalorian way. This meant using all kinds of weapons you wanted and either killing or ending the fight in any way you saw fit. Challenging the Mand'alor usually ends in death for the loser, but Petyr was creating an image in the Mandalorian's mind. He would defeat them all in their respective areas of strength.

The chief, known as Cabur, attacks first, firing from his blaster, and then a small rocket is launched from his handguard. Petyr reacts right away and shoots the incoming rocket with his own blaster, causing it to explode and blinding both of them. But neither of them stops moving, and they run to the side, where they continue attacking. Petyr moves forward, while Cabur continues attacking Petyr as he moves forward. But Petyr jumps into the air, as Cabur fires off a flamethrower forward, trying to hit and burn him. Now that Petyr is in the sky, he is an easy pick for Cabur, firing off his blaster at the Mand'alor.

Petyr takes out several small explosives and throws them towards the blasts. They impact and explode. But instead of pure explosives, these were smoke bombs that covered the battlefield with smoke and hid Petyr, who was running forward after having landed on the ground. Realising that he can't fire at Petyr anymore, Cabur starts exchanging a series of close-quarter moves. They begin fighting hand-to-hand, and it is immediately clear that Petyr's martial arts are way superior to anything that Cabur has to offer. He is stronger, faster and much more skilled at martial arts of any kind.

Petyr delivers a series of attacks that are faster than Cabur can see and knocks him out.

.

The fights and challenges continued. One challenge was to be fought out in the air, using jetpacks. Another was a swordfight, and another one a headhunt. After an entire day of doing this, it was clear that Petyr was without a doubt the most suited as Mand'alor, and he didn't acquire his position through subterfuge at all. It may not seem like it, but this day established Petyr as the most able and skilled fighter and warrior of Mandalore in the minds of all those present.

Petyr stands above the last chief he has bested and helps him stand back up again.

"Well, that was a fruitful day."

"Heh, after all that, 'fruitful day' is all you say? What kind of animal are you?" one of the chieftains asks, causing the others to agree.

"I am the Mand'alor. It's as simple as that. And since we have established that I rightfully hold this title, I believe it is time we move forward and discuss the future of Mandalore, the future of our warrior people. Because, as much as it may not seem like it, we are dying out." Petyr says.

The others look at him, and some nod. The large entourage makes their way back to Petyr's office and the room he has created to hold such meetings.

"Let us be serious with one another, not all of you here are still adamant followers of the ancient Mandalorian code. When Jaster created the Supercommando Codex, some of you were happy, while others didn't like it at all. I am here to remind you all of where we all come from and what that means.

We Mando'ade, the children of Mandalore, are a clan-based culture composed of members from multiple species and bound by a common creed, language and code. Our roots come from nearly 10'000 years ago on the planet of Mandalore. Our way of life revolved around honour and war, being led by a sole ruler known as the Mand'alor, whose Protectors maintained a relative state of peace and unity between their people's warrior clans. As a result of our warrior culture, the Mandalorians launched several wars of expansion by the time of the Old Republic era, colonising nearby worlds such as Krownest, Ordo, and Concord Dawn, which led the sector surrounding our homeworld to be known as Mandalorian Space.

We are some of the most feared warriors in the galaxy. Our lives revolve around the honour and pride we take in combat, which is the cornerstone of our culture. The fact that we are still a people and exist as we do is due to our martial prowess. Yet here we stand, and claim that from now on, we shall lay down our weapons, lay down our swords, our explosives, our armour and become pacifists.

I don't want to judge the New Mandalorians. Not at all. Their desire to become a peaceful people stems from a great tragedy. After the Galactic Republic's attack on our sector, great portions of our planet have been rendered into inhospitable white-sand deserts. But we can't possibly be so naive as to believe that in a galaxy of war and strife and deception and slavery... that in such a galaxy, we could possibly be the only ones who are pacifists."

Petyr looks around the room at each of the chiefs and chieftainesses and shrugs his shoulders.

"Or can we? The answer to that would result in a philosophical debate, out of which we would never get out, and which would essentially be pointless. So I ask you this, why is it that he has to lay down our weapons and armour to be peaceful? If you want peace, prepare for war. And the war will come, I can guarantee you that. The future is bleak for the galaxy. The Galactic Republic is a stagnant whale that has long died and is now rotting, with the senators of Coruscant taking what they can until everything goes down the drain. I know this might seem hard to believe, but that's where we stand.

And even if you don't believe that. We are Mandalorians; our culture is to be warriors, not politicians or peacekeepers, which is the Jedi's supposed job. We don't have to be bloodthirsty maniacs who go ahead and look for wars to fight or sectors to conquer. But we must stay true to our history and code of conduct. So instead of being aggressors, or those who put their heads into the sand, let us be true to ourselves, continue our martial ways, but get control and measure into it, just like Jaster Mareel said."

Petyr looks around the room again and waits for the others to react. He knew that if he truly wanted to unite the Mandalorians, he couldn't do that forcefully, since that would be the very problem the New Mandalorians wanted to avoid. No, he would do it similarly to Sidious; he would make them do it themselves and have democracy die, with thundering applause. But with some measure of oompf, that he has missed in the Game of Thrones world.

After a while, the chieftains and chieftainesses nod their heads and salute Petyr. They acknowledge that there are more things that they don't know yet and that changes are necessary, but not at the cost of their very identities. So Petyr is left with the few men and women, from each of the clans, who will learn from him and become his very own honour guard. They will become his personally trained fighting force with Arla at its head.

.

The time passed, and after this meeting with the chieftains, Petyr devoted more effort to creating a public image. No one among the Mandalorians could now argue his skill as a warrior. He was one of, if not the most dangerous man in the entire galaxy right now, and that includes the Sith and Jedi.

His personal Mandalorian fighting force was brought to the facility, and Petyr created himself. In order to turn them into loyal followers, they had to be trained to the limits and become the best they could in this reality. Petyr's plans were grander than just the Star Wars universe, and eventually, he would leave here again, to go to another universe where he would use his fighting force as well. However, for the more dangerous universes, they would need to be improved and strengthened. But until then, they would train and grow as much as possible.

Arla was taking her position as team leader very seriously. Over the years, Petyr has taught her how to use Chi in combination with martial arts. She was very talented and took to everything he taught her like a fish to water. It was a pleasure to see her grow, and she literally did anything to please him. Petyr had stopped manipulating her and was acting as he would normally, but Arla had remained at his side and seemed to have grown even more devoted.

After she becomes more proficient in using Chi, Petyr will look for something else to teach her and to make her more powerful. Chi was mighty in the Star Wars universe, but while he was here, he might as well get access to the Force, and there were a lot of people who were quite powerful practitioners of the Force, and he would use that. And the time actually came, in the year 44 BBY, after the True Mandalorians, under Jango Fett's leadership, had scored a significant victory against the Death Watch, Jango called Petyr to report about a lead he had gotten on the Death Watch.

"Galidraan? Who gave you that intel?" Petyr asks the hologram of Jango.

[The Governor did.]

"Hmm..."

[Is there a problem, Mand'alor?]

"No, just a feeling. Don't trust this one, Jango. You are the team leader, so I give you full authority to decide this, but I advise against it. It smells like a badly designed trap."

[I understand. I'll look into it.]

I decided to keep Arla as a character who will accompany Petyr. I'll post a picture in the auxiliary
