IMOGEN'S POV
"Can we watch a movie?" Joseph asked when we finished.
"It's getting late," I said.
"Please? He has a huge TV."
Isaac looked at me hopefully. "We could watch something short."
"Fine. But nothing scary."
"Yes!" Joseph pumped his fist in the air.
We moved to the living room, where Isaac's enormous television took up most of one wall. Joseph picked a animated movie about talking cars, and we settled onto the couch.
Joseph curled up between us, his head on my lap and his feet on Isaac's. Within twenty minutes, he was sound asleep.
"Should I carry him upstairs?" Isaac whispered.
"Let him sleep a little longer."
We sat in comfortable silence, watching the movie neither of us was really paying attention to. Isaac's hand rested on Joseph's ankle, and every few minutes his thumb would trace gentle circles on his skin.
"Thank you," I said quietly.
"For what?"
"This. All of it. Being patient with him. With me."
