Rama could only stare while frozen in place, his face twisted into a deep frown. Confusion swirled in his chest and mingling with a creeping sense of dread.

The words of the human leader echoed in his mind, their weight heavy. Rama couldn't make sense of it. One moment, the leader had looked directly at him — through the haze of time itself — speaking with a sorrowful tone and eyes full of guilt that visible through the narrow slit of his helmet. The next moment, he turned away as if nothing had happened.
As if he hadn't just pierced the veil of time to speak directly to him.

The armored leader showed no more interest in him anymore. He charged back into the chaos of battle without pause, swinging his massive blade at the nearest Vampire.
