A black sedan discreetly slid past, and as it did, Philip Shaw seemed to sense something, turning his head to watch the car that was steadily cruising through the quiet night.
The windows of the other car were closed; he didn't see anyone, but his heart inexplicably experienced a slight palpitation, a feeling that made him unconsciously furrow his brow in discomfort.
Just as he was sinking into his thoughts, attempting to sort out this uneasy emotion, his phone, which was in his pocket, suddenly rang.
He answered quickly, his tone grave: "Hello?"
"Mr. Shaw," came a man's anxious voice from the other end, "the villa has caught fire, but... but Miss Candi seems, seems not to have gotten out. The fire's too intense, our people can't get in."
With a "whoosh," Philip Shaw felt as if the ground beneath his heart had completely collapsed.
