CHAPTER 123: ANGRY DIANA

Suzanne was descending the stairs when she saw James enter, his face etched with worry.

"Grandma, Good evening, ma'am," he greeted with a forced smile.

"There's little good about this evening, James," Suzanne replied sternly. "Where have you been? To think you left my granddaughter-in-law all by herself and in this state!"

James ran his hands over his face and exhaled deeply, exhaustion evident in his tired eyes. "It's not what it seems, ma. I had to deal with some urgent business"

Suzanne studied him with a knowing gaze. "Have you eaten?" she inquired half-heartedly, noticing his disheveled state.

"Not yet," James responded. "How is Diana? Is she alright?"

Suzanne sighed heavily and sank onto the sofa, setting the plates she was carrying on the coffee table. "Why don't you sit down?" she gestured.

James joined her, listening intently as Suzanne recounted Diana's ordeal with morning sickness and the concern it caused her. His expression flickered between worry and understanding throughout the narrative.

"So, is she alright now?" James asked again, a tremor of anxiety in his voice.

"For now, she is. But you need to pay more attention to her needs," Suzanne scolded him.

Shame washed over James as he nodded in agreement. He stood abruptly.

"Where are you going?" Suzanne inquired.

"I'm going to check on my wife, Grandma."

"Alright, you should hurry and do that. I'll bring dinner upstairs for you."

James hesitated "There's no need for that, Grandma. With Diana being sick, I don't want to risk her throwing up again, so I'd rather not eat upstairs. Just go home and rest. Nicodemus will prepare something when I'm ready."

Suzanne considered this for a moment. "Alright, dear," she agreed with a nod. "Go rest then. Nicodemus will take care of you."

Suzanne rose and headed towards the kitchen, while James continued his way upstairs. Preoccupied with Diana's condition, he pulled out his phone and dialed Harry's number as he walked.

The lights were dimmed by the time he entered the room. James looked at the bed, where Diana was curled up like a ball.

He brightened the room slightly as he approached her cautiously, his heart aching. He knelt beside her, his hand reaching out to gently touch her cheek and caress her tired face.

"Hey, baby," he whispered, his voice filled with tenderness.

Diana blinked before opening her eyes. She saw her husband squatting before her, looking as handsome as ever.

Diana stirred, her eyes fluttering open. She blinked, her vision adjusting to the dim light. When she saw James kneeling beside her, a wave of relief washed over her.

"You're back," she murmured, her voice barely audible.

James smiled, his eyes filled with love. "I'm here."

She wanted to respond again, but remembering the events of the day, she frowned and turned away, avoiding his face and touch.

"I called Harry to come check on you," James said, standing up. "I told him it was urgent."

"You did what?" Diana sat up and turned to him. "Why would you do that?"

"Well, you look sick, Diana. Have you even looked in the mirror? You obviously don't look fine. Besides, Grandma and Nicodemus already told me everything. Why didn't you just call me?"

"Call you?" Diana repeated, standing up. "We left things awkward this morning, and you couldn't even call to check on me? To see if I took my meds, or even ate?"

"Diana, if I had called, you wouldn't have answered because you were angry at me. And I asked you yesterday, but you didn't reply."

"That's because you didn't ask properly, James. You were supposed to coax me. Do I have to teach you everything? And what about a text? You could have texted me."

When he remained silent, Diana continued, "So don't give me that 'you could have called me' excuse. And there was no need to call Harry. Did you even come to see me first, or did you just call him because he's always available to you?"
