Chapter 20: The Dungeon Strikes Back
Drake and the gang sat down to relax and have lunch. He withdrew the swamp toad's crystal and began munching on it, just as the familiar level-up notification chimed.
"Heh, finally another one. You guys rested enough? I think it's time to move forward."
All of Drake's Pokémon nodded. They stood and pressed onward, descending deeper until they hit the thick fog once again. The moment they stepped on the floor, a rumbling sound echoed—then a loud notification blared:
EMERGENCY QUEST:THE DUNGEON IS TRYING HARDER AND HARDER TO KILL YOUSURVIVE THE SPECIAL MONSTER PARTYREWARD: MAGIC LOTTERY x2
As the message faded, colored mists swirled around Drake's party, forming into eleven monstrous figures.
Drake's eyes widened. "Are you fucking serious? All of them at once? This dungeon really wants to piss me off. Everyone, prepare yourselves! Time to show this forsaken place how strong we've become!"
His Pokémon roared, screeched, and growled. Monferno ignited in flames and rolled forward with Flame Wheel, smashing into a bluish humanoid monster, causing it to howl in pain.
Pidgeot flew up to a monster opening small portals from which killer ants swarmed out. Blue energy coated Pidgeot as it dove into the swarm, crashing through the ants and bisecting the portal-opening beast's arm.
Drake clashed with a toad-like monster's snapping tongue while evading grey, wolf-like Fenrir claws. What the hell is going on? All the variant monsters I've defeated... gathered here? He gritted his teeth. Someday, I'll destroy this shit hole.
Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine. Drake spotted the large horn of a rabbit-like monster charging, but before it could strike, Gible erupted from underground and slammed into its stomach, forcing it to spit blood.
"Thanks, Gible!" Drake ducked under a Fenrir's swipe and sliced it clean in two with Yoru — only to get slammed by the toad's tongue, sending him flying. Groaning, he rose to see most of the monsters defeated.
Grinning, he commanded, "Monferno, finish off that annoying Hobgoblin. Kirlia, use Psychic to hold the ant in place—Pidgeot, Staraptor, take it from there. I'll handle the toad."
His Pokémon nodded, resuming battle as Drake reengaged his duel.
Channeling magic into Yoru, the black blade crackled with bluish sparks. Dodging the toad's tongue, he slashed downward, unleashing a black sword beam charged with lightning. The attack exploded, shaking the floor and leaving only scattered crystals behind.
Panting, Drake and his team gathered to rest. "That was annoying. What do you guys say?"
Before anyone answered, a flurry of notifications rang out, and two Pokémon were suddenly engulfed in bright light. Drake stared, dumbfounded.
Monferno grew larger, nearly human-sized, as the light faded into a powerful Infernape who howled triumphantly. The other Pokémon's light faded too, revealing a massive shark-like Gabite, roaring fiercely. The two locked eyes and smiled — a rivalry was born.
"Haha! Infernape, Gabite — good job! I'm proud of you guys. You're the best!" Drake laughed.
The two evolved Pokémon leapt up and hugged him tightly. Kirlia floated over and sat atop Gabite, clearly congratulating her new friend. The birds rubbed their beaks affectionately against Infernape, welcoming him into the group.
Drake chuckled at their antics. "Okay, everyone, quick break — then onward!"
He gathered the large crystals from their defeated foes, handed one to each Pokémon, and they snacked to regain energy.
Just as they finished, two Silverback gorilla-like monsters appeared through the fog.
"Infernape, Gabite — show me how strong you've become."
The two charged, flashing confident grins. Both Silverbacks roared fiercely.
Infernape inhaled deeply and unleashed a massive kanji-shaped flame that incinerated one monster to ash. Gabite lunged at the other, his tail glowing with dragon energy. Evading a punch, Gabite sliced the beast in two with a swipe of his tail.
Heh, Infernape learned Fire Blast, and Gabite got Dragon Tail — these two are hard hitters. Lucky me.
"Good job, guys! Let's keep moving. Kirlia, use your Psychic to locate the exit."
Kirlia glowed with psychic energy, eyes snapping open as she pointed firmly in one direction.
"Alright, let's go!"
They cut through everything in their path until they reached the familiar stairway. Suddenly, the ground rumbled, and two large fog masses formed into figures: two monkey-like monsters.
One was pitch-black with massive muscles; the other carried a large staff and was clad in armor.
Drake sighed. No way...
SILVERBACK VARIANT KING KONG — LVL 78SILVERBACK VARIANT SUN WUKONG — LVL 80
"Guys, team up. I'll take the armored one; you handle the big, weaponless brute."
His Pokémon nodded and attacked the dark-furred beast while Drake drew Yoru and charged the armored monkey. Sparks flew as their weapons clashed.
Drake smirked and leapt in swiftly, extending his hand and yelling, "STEAL!"
The armored foe raised his staff, confused, as his weapon vanished. Staring dumbfounded at his empty hands, he failed to see Yoru's blade slicing clean through his face.
Drake turned, smirking at the sight of his teammates standing over the remains of the big monkey — a pile of burned, destroyed flesh.
"Haha, nice! Looks like you handled your target faster than me."
Suddenly, a powerful chill surged through Drake. Before he could react, a large man appeared and drove a sword through his chest.
Drake stared, shocked and weak, barely able to ask one question: "Why?"
"My goddess wants your creatures. For that, you must die," growled the boar-like man.
Rage filled Drake's eyes, now glowing red. Summoning his last strength, he grabbed the attacker's sword-wielding hand and slashed off his arm at the shoulder.
Before fading to dust, Drake heard the man howl in pain and smirk, "Good luck getting my Pokémon, hehehe."
As his body dissolved, the boar-like man struggled to recover. Checking the area for the creatures, he found them gone — vanished without a trace.
Roaring in pain and fury over the useless sacrifice of his arm, he cursed fate.
Back on the surface, Orario's residents suddenly sensed an overwhelming energy surge. Looking toward Babel Tower, they saw it shrouded in a swirling pink charm energy cloud. A voice filled with rage echoed across the city:
"YOU FUCKING MONKEY! I WILL FIND YOU AND TEAR YOU LIMB FROM LIMB FOR WHAT YOU DID TO MY DEAR OTTAR! BETTER HIDE! AAAAAAAAH!"
