Hunters pushed her up the steps of the mansion. She walked silently. Just before they reached the mansion's grand doors, General Giordano lifted a hand, halting the group. "Disarm her." His voice was calm but laced with authority.
One of the hunters stepped behind her, and with a swift motion, retrieved a gun tucked at the small of her back. Another bent to pick up her dagger, which had fallen earlier during the scuffle. Their movements were efficient, methodical—until they weren't.
They began patting her down, hands moving over her body, searching for hidden weapons. It was thorough—too thorough. The hands lingered longer than necessary. Fingers pressing into places that had nothing to do with safety protocol.
Melisca didn't flinch. She didn't give them the satisfaction. But her voice came out like a blade wrapped in steel. "The moment I get free..." She said coldly. "I'll make sure you never use those hands again."
