"Now I'm glad you haven't spent any of your accumulated status points yet, that will make things easier. Right now I think it's best to capitalize on your strengths instead of shoring up your weaknesses." Griffith lectures
"what I think you should do is pump all of those stat points into your speed. If you do that then that will raise your speed by a third. That's pretty significant. I want you to raise your speed instead of your agility because I believe that your Agility is already high enough to capitalize on your increased speed. With your next stat points you should raise your agility instead of speed that way you'll have the groundwork laid to raise your speed again. If you distribute your stat points this way there will be nothing in the E rank or even D rank that will be able to take you by surprise." Griffith says
That sounds like a logical argument to me so I distribute them like he says.
Status
level: 12
Available stat points: 2
Mental: 30
Intelligence:10
Agility: 32
Speed: 40
Strength: 10
Constitution: 10
That's what my new stats looked like after I distributed my stat points. I have to remember to check it more often after I complete a job to see how much I leveled up. Now that I think about it I'm not sure what all gives me experience. Is it just the things I kill or do I get experience for completing Jobs as well? so I ask Griffith.
He replies with "as far as leveling up goes pretty much anything you do in World Game that you do to better yourself will give you exp. Everyone that works a counter in the city gains a little bit of exp after every transaction they make. You even get a little exp when you buy stuff. Now if you want to level up quickly then you have to do a lot of fighting or crafting. Everyone who works at a desk in the city would be lucky to hit level one-hundred after spending a hundred years working at their job and just going through daily life. The general rule of thumb is that the harder you have to work for your exp the more exp you will get."
That sounds pretty fair to me and explains why iv leveled up twice since the last time I checked my status.
"There's one very important thing about leveling though, once you hit level one-hundred you'll stop gaining exp in this world. In order for you to gain exp you'll have to go to a different world where the level cap is higher. That's how all of World Game works. The max level in World Game is one-thousand. I myself am stuck at level one-hundred. I was actually about to move on to my next planet but then the guide contacted me and told me to wait."
After Griffith said that there was another knock at our door signaling that the food was to be served. I watched in awe as Griffith consumes a table full of food like it was nothing, he practically licked every plate clean, I was absolutely flabbergasted. To my gawking Griffith says "The higher your level you either need to eat more energy enriched food or just more food in general. Usually I cook my own food and use s class monster meat." he laughs that boisterous laugh again and reaches across the table to slap my shoulder again as he say "Don't worry Cole you will get there someday. Even eating in this world gives you exp, the more energy rich your food is the more exp you receive for consuming it".
"okay enough, its time to head to the wilderness to do some actual training. we'll stop by the job board to get a hunting job and I'll come along with you and give you some pointers. Before we do that though I think a present is in order for you joining the faction".
After saying that we leave the cafe and head back to the Adventurers guild. when we get there we go to a store in the guild which has a bunch of crystals that look like my I.d but are yellow in color instead of blue.
"This is the memory hall. When you become a master in something you can even sell your memories for a ridiculous amount of money. Each of these crystals contains the memory of a master, while the memories themselves are all of certain weapon styles. While its always better to learn a style step by step these crystals will give you a foundation to work with as you accumulate the required muscle memory for your chosen style. We're doing it this way since the only weapon I know how to use is a great sword. Now the money for this came from our Guide so you dont have to worry about spending my gold. He said this is his gift to you for joining the Green Lotus's. Each of these crystals costs five-hundred gold and only the wealthiest adventurers can afford them. Let's take a look and see if there's anything to your liking." After Griffith says this he leads me deeper into the store.
All the crystal are separated by weapon so we quickly head over to the daggers section. To say I was excited would be an understatement. One of the constant things on my mind was how was I going to raise my proficiency with daggers and as it turns out there's a slight cheat in doing so. Its almost like the Guide had been reading my mind.
I make my way to the dagger section and see a whole shelf in front of my face, there's such a wide selection that I'm overwhelmed by all the choices. Seeing me freeze up in front of the shelf Griffith calls over a sales associate to get some help."what exactly are you looking for in a weapon style young man?" the associate asks me
"I'm not one-hundred percent sure. Id honestly like something that's good on offence but leans towards taking advantage of my stealth capabilities. it also need to be for dual wielding. It doesn't have to be very heavy on defence since I've already got that covered." I reply to the man.
"well in that case I recommend the Tanto art called Quiet Night, it has excellent forms for offence as well as having a whole section of the memory dedicated to attacking from the shadows, it sounds perfectly suited to your requirements." the associate replays as he pulls a crystal off the shelf and hands it to me. "the only problem is that you'll have to buy a set of Tantos to go with the art. We sell them here though and we also have all tiers up to blue."
What he describes honestly sounds perfect to me so I decide to purchase the style called Silent Night as well as two Tantos . The crystal is payed for my Griffith while I pay Thirty gold for the two Tantos.
weapon: Tanto
Grade: grey
Base damage slashing: 25
Base damage stabbing: 40
Durability: 5000/5000
Overall the daggers are much better than my old ones even, they even had a stat for base damage while stabbing with them. Though my heart did bleed when I had to hand over the thirty gold, considering it an investment for my future, I handed him the gold.
After leaving the store Griffith leads me out of the adventurers guild and to a park full of trees that's only a block away. "its always better to consume memory crystals somewhere quiet so that you can truly concentrate on the contents of the crystal. Now don't be surprised that the crystal dissolves after you use it and try to commit the whole crystal to memory. You don't have to worry to much though because the crystal does the majority of the work for you." after saying that Griffith lays down on the ground and seems to fall asleep.
I sit down in the lotus position and take out the crystal. I then sink my mind into as I do my spatial pouch. As soon as I do I get taken into the memories of another person. The memories shows me the Quiet Night style and breaks down all of its movements for me as well as tells me all the drill I should practice everyday if I want to master the style one day. overall it took me over an hour before the crystal dissolves. Even after it dissolves I stay stuck in the lotus position reviewing everything iv been shown.
Once I review it all I pull out my Tantos and start practicing the first phases of the style that I saw in the memory, everything in the first section was all about footwork. In fact a majority of the style was foot work, it seems that high agility is a must for mastering this style. I Realize this is also a good time to get adjusted to my new speed stat since it went up by an entire third.
I spend the rest of the day there in the park practicing Quiet Night without a care in the world. It was almost like I was in a trance. Once I would complete all of the forms I would start all over again and repeat the process.
The only problem I saw with the style was that it was mostly geared to fighting other people. All the foot work and forms I learned could be applied to beasts though, I would just have to deepen my mastery to do so. Besides I've heard multiple times that other Adventurers fight in the wilderness all the time so this style would definitely come in handy when I experience that for the first time.
Before I know it its already dark outside and Griffith is shaking me out of my trance. " okay that's enough, I respect your dedication but its already dark and I need to talk to you a little more before we part ways for the night." Griffith says
"Now I thought we were going to go do a Job together today but since you got so caught up in your new style we will just postpone that until tomorrow. Meet me in front of the Job board first thing tomorrow morning and be ready to kill some beasts. I hope to see good things from you since you've made me sit here all day as you practiced your Style. Also add me to your friends list so that we can contact each other. All you have to do is concentrate on seeing my status bar, once you see my health and name then concentrate on adding me to your friends list, its that simple. If you need to contact me then just concentrate on your friends list while thinking of me and you'll be able to send me a message."
I do as he says and realize that its just that easy. after adding Griffith to my friends list we separate and I head back to The Flying Dragon.
