Hope stood firm, arms outstretched between her father and the two thugs.
"Try me," she warned. "I've lived in the gutters. I've seen worse than you."
One of the men smirked. "You've got your father's fire."
Kelvin spoke, voice low but clear. "Take whatever's left of my name… my shares… whatever you want. But leave them out of this."
The men paused, exchanging glances. They didn't expect the once-mighty Kelvin Hart to beg.
One of them leaned down beside him. "You used to own cities. Now you beg in dirty clothes. Remember that." Then they walked out, slamming the door behind them.
---
Later that night, Hope paced the room. "What else haven't you told us? How many enemies do you have?"
Kelvin sat still, fingers clenched. "More than I can count. But none of them hurt me like I hurt your mother."
Hope's anger flared—then faded. She was tired. Rage only fueled pain, and pain was starting to wear thin.
Ella watched both of them from the kitchen. She knew something had shifted.
---
That evening, Ella found herself alone with Hope on the porch.
"You're softening," Ella said with a half-smile.
"I don't know what I'm doing anymore," Hope admitted. "He's not the same man. But the scars he left… I feel them every day."
Ella nodded slowly. "Forgiveness isn't for him. It's for you. So you can breathe again."
Hope looked down. "What if I can't?"
"Then I'll breathe with you… until you can."
---
Inside, Kelvin reached under his bed and opened an old briefcase—a forgotten item his mother once gave him. Inside it was a worn-out letter.
*A will.*
He ran his fingers across the page, blind but remembering every word.
He had left everything to his mother.
Now… there was nothing.
---
A week later, Ella fell sick.
Hope insisted she rest, and Kelvin, despite his blindness, did his best to help.
"Where's Ella?" he asked that evening.
Hope brought him a cup of water. "She's resting."
But Ella wasn't just resting.
She was in the back room, holding a small envelope from the hospital… her hands shaking.
She was pregnant.
And the father… was *Mr. Blind*.
