Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 Determining the Direction

A new week began, and Allen and his roommates were having breakfast in the Great Hall.

Allen aimlessly poked the pie on his plate with a fork, a bit distracted and without appetite, perhaps due to the excessive excitement from yesterday.

His brain, having shed the excitement, became calm again.

He began to think calmly.

His discovery yesterday really seemed useless! What good could this flashy thing be? Had he been unknowingly influenced by Geng, the Craftsman?

Hiss~ Geng, the Craftsman, is terrifying!

Allen had initially thought the light orb could fly very far, like a flare, but subsequent experiments poured cold water on him; the light orb could only fly less than five meters, a discovery that quickly led Allen to label it useless.

Now, the only use Allen could think of was to summon two light orbs above Malfoy's head, one tracing an "S" and the other a "B," then enjoying his foolish expression.

So Allen was very disappointed.

Reporting such a discovery to the Ministry of Magic probably wouldn't yield much reward; its bizarre style likely wouldn't appeal to the old scholars who study magic theory. Getting into textbooks would only bring an empty reputation, and what he needed most right now was to keep a low profile. Besides, even if he cast this spell in front of others, they probably wouldn't guess how it was cast, so it wouldn't make a difference whether he reported it sooner or later.

So, reporting it should be delayed. Anyway, he owed so much debt that the bonus from one discovery wouldn't cover it, and it would draw unnecessary attention, which was the last thing he wanted right now, as he still had many secrets.

So, let's just pretend this never happened for now, and quickly research the Ancient Runes parameters for the Cleaning Charm. He felt that researching this would be much more rewarding than the Incantation.

Allen made up his mind.

Also, his Ancient Runes research was really too slow. Should he go find the Professors to research together? Allen thought about this question again.

After much thought, he decided to research on his own, because he couldn't explain how a little wizard of Muggle origin like himself could acquire so many precise and unknown Ancient Runes.

...

Days passed like this. Harry became busier; he was reportedly undergoing Quidditch training. Ron also often disappeared, while Allen found an opportunity to apologize to Hermione. Their relationship seemed to have mended somewhat; at least Hermione was willing to research Ancient Runes with him again.

Obsessed with Ancient Runes, he hadn't been in the mood for wand Transfiguration lately. His and Hermione's Ancient Runes research had also hit a bottleneck. The study of Ancient Runes was simply too underdeveloped, and the various materials were too numerous and disorganized. To this day, Allen still hadn't translated any useful information about the Cleaning Charm. Allen had to start considering adjusting his learning direction.

Because his thoughts had started to change again.

Allen was beginning to feel a sense of urgency, because through his past life memories, he knew that the Harry Potter movies had eight parts, and Hogwarts had seven years. So he guessed that each movie probably covered one year's events, and the final movie would be about defeating the ultimate Dark Lord.

In Allen's understanding, all movies have a beginning, development, climax, and ending, and there can even be multiple climaxes. As a movie with strong special effects, Harry Potter would certainly have many climaxes. Climax meant big scenes, and big scenes meant big events happening.

And as a good friend of the protagonist, he was already deeply tied to the protagonists, so he would definitely participate in these big events. However, he didn't know the plot, didn't have the protagonist's halo, and his strength was very poor. If things continued like this, he might unknowingly lose his life!

So Allen began to feel anxious. He wanted to quickly increase his combat power, but the things taught in first year were not very useful for combat. First-year students couldn't borrow magic books containing combat Spells from the Library, and his progress in Ancient Runes was very slow.

It seemed he could only adjust his learning focus. He had to find a way to quickly improve his strength, perhaps by privately asking Professors for guidance. After all, in class, they had to adjust their teaching plans according to the progress of most little wizards. No matter how fast he learned in class, there was no new knowledge to learn. Allen sat in the Library, pondering silently.

He quickly reviewed the Professors he knew in his mind:

Professor Dumbledore was elusive every day; finding him was probably impossible.

As the Deputy Principal of Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall had a mountain of daily chores. All the big and small matters of the school needed her attention. What else could you expect from Headmaster Dumbledore, who was a hands-off Principal? So she had no time at all, and approaching her was not suitable.

Professor Snape hadn't given him a good look in a long time. He had some self-awareness and decided not to provoke him.

Professor Sprout was always tending to her magical plants outside of class, so she probably wouldn't have time for him.

Professor Flitwick was a very suitable candidate. He was said to have been a dueling champion, but he was also said to have a very rich life outside of class, so he probably wouldn't have time to teach him. (Professor Flitwick, drinking Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, suddenly sneezed hard, unaware that his reputation was being slandered.)

After much thought, only Professor Quirrell was the most suitable. He was highly professional, and Defense Against the Dark Arts itself was a combat discipline, the only course in first year where one could learn combat Spells.

According to the textbook, they would later learn Petrificus Totalus and the Leg-Locker Curse. Both were very practical Spells that could greatly enhance his combat power. However, these two Spells were quite complex, with too many points to pay attention to. Self-study would be very inefficient, and without guidance, it would be easy to have a magic accident. Allen didn't want to see any of these things happen.

However, Professor Quirrell's severe social anxiety was causing the teaching progress to be very slow. If things continued this way, by the time they got to Petrificus Totalus and the Leg-Locker Curse, his grave would probably be three feet high. Allen silently calculated.

Professor Quirrell didn't seem to have much to do after class normally; his time should be quite ample. And his demeanor looked very humble, so he surely wouldn't be able to resist his persistent pleading. The only thing to worry about was if he randomly got a nose, he couldn't go to him, after all, the garlic smell was quite strong. Allen kept imagining, and the more he thought, the more he felt this direction was correct.

Allen made up his mind like this. As a man of action, he decided that after the next Defense Against the Dark Arts class, he would proactively approach Professor Quirrell to explain his request and strive for the opportunity for Professor Quirrell to guide him individually.

"I must strive hard for this opportunity and seize it firmly! I must succeed!" Allen secretly told himself in his heart, "Besides, I was also an engineering student in my previous life, and Professor Quirrell also has such a strong engineering temperament. We will definitely spark something together."

Even when Allen lay in bed that night, he was still thinking about this matter.

Just as Allen was about to fall asleep, a thought still lingered in his mind:

I will definitely spark a "fire" with Professor Quirrell!
