Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Rexistential Crisis

*New York - Earth*

There was nowhere left to run. The NYPD surrounded him entirely, their squad cars circled right in front of the bank, each officer leveling a handgun at him. Hovering over him, several police helicopters swarmed him, leveling their spotlights towards Lyon. And flying through the skies, was none other than Robot and the Teen Team, nearly all of them riding on their trusted steed of a machine. And while Lyon knew he could probably escape from the police unscathed, he wasn't so sure he could escape from the team of young superheroes on his tail. Especially with Robot amongst them to track him down if here were to try to escape.

To be completely honest, Lyon didn't exactly have a lot of options on hand. Between the wall of guns aimed at him and the super-teens hovering over him, he was going to think on his feet. He had to make himself look as non-threatening as possible, heroic even. After all, if they let Invincible take down the Maulers and Killcannon, why shouldn't they allow him to make a grand debut? Still, he was going to have to improvise.

Lyon kept his hands raised, and did his best to give the crowd a 'smile', despite his mouth being covered by pink crystal. He made his actions slow, deliberate, and then gestured towards the unconscious Killcannon at his feet. Turning to face the quartet of teenage heroes, and stepping forward towards the police. Then, he introduced himself towards the crowd.

"Uh, yeah, hi! I'm sorta new to this whole 'hero' thing, but I don't really mean any of you people harm! I promise!" Lyon said awkwardly to the crowd, nervously clearing his throat and keeping his hands over his head. "You see, the thing is, this handicapped man over here was the one responsible for robbing that bank. I just sorta... decided to show up." He explained, grabbing Killcannon's unconscious body by the back of his neck, and dangled him around for all to see, the cops around him lowering their guns slightly. "Look, there should be security footage of the whole event. You gotta believe me!" Lyon exclaimed, pointing to a security camera on his left.

However, before anyone could do anything, none other than Atom Eve swooped down and began to hover in front of him for a few moments. She carefully examined him, her eyes narrowed suspiciously as she then glanced at Killcannon, the cyborg letting out a groan. Taking in a deep breath, she gave Lyon one last look, then turned towards the rest of the Teen Team, thumbing Killcannon.

"Yeah, this guy checks out. He's probably another alien like Martian Man, coming to save the day." Atom Eve said, releasing yet another sigh of what Lyon could best describe as frustration or annoyance. "Plus, you can still see the cash in Killcannon's pockets. And going by the laser marks on the walls. He's definitely our culprit." She said, giving a small smirk towards Lyon. "And honestly? Killcannon was my first takedown, too. I kind of get it." Eve said, flashing him a smile.

Lyon blinked a few times, and gave a sigh of relief. "Phew! Thank goodness. Y'all can take care of this, right?" Lyon asked.

Eve nodded. "Yeah, we'll stick around. But you might want to, too." Eve affirmed as she glanced over towards the rest of her team, then towards the police. "Okay, guys, we'll take it from here. Just get these people out of here and to the hospital." She yelled, manifesting a pair of cuffs around Killcannon, levitating him off of the ground. "And find this guy a proper jailcell. I swear, he gets out like every other week..." Eve grumbled.

"Okay, you're definitely better at this hero stuff than I am." Lyon remarked, palming his crystalline face. "I take it you all sometimes like to patrol this city? It's a nice place." He questioned, watching as the Teen Team's vehicle began to touch down right in front of him.

"Sometimes. Sometimes it's in other places. New York's just that popular, you know?" Eve shrugged, watching as the emergency workers began loading people onto stretchers, and attending to the wounded. "Have to admit, for you first spot in the limelight, you did pretty good. No causalities. Hope you're enjoying New York, Crystal Guy. Things aren't usually like this." She said, patting Lyon on his rocky back.

Lyon cracked a smile. "It's been treating me right so far. Apart from this little hiccup." Lyon replied, letting out an amused chuckle as he put his hands to his hips. "Good to know that some people don't shoot-on-sight. That would've been.. awkward." He said sheepishly, coughing into a fist. "Anyways! Good to meet you all. Hope we all get along." Lyon said, extending out a hand.

"The pleasure is all ours." A new, mechanical voice cut in, moving past Atom Eve and standing in front of Lyon. Robot then extended out his hand, and clasped it around Lyon's. However, his eyes then set towards the Omnitrix on Lyon's chest. "An interesting device. I cannot identity its make. What is it?" Robot questioned with intrigue.

"One thing at a time, Robot. We just met the guy." Atom Eve cut in, politely smiling as she approached. "I guess we forgot to introduce ourselves. We're the Teen Team. And as you can guess, we're teenage superheroes. Pretty self-explanatory." She said, introducing herself and the others, gesturing to them. "To my right is Robot, our leader. Behind me is Rexsplode and Dupli-Kate. And yours truly is Atom Eve. And you are?" Eve listed, gesturing to each member of the Teen Team beside her with a smile.

"Eve, I don't know what to tell you, but this guy might have some weird-ass alien name that we might not even be able to pronounce." A new voice chimed in, sarcastic and arrogant in his tone; none other than Rexsplode. "Plus, shouldn't we let Cecil do all the negotiation stuff? Like what he did with Martian Man?" Rex asked, whispering it to Eve's ear.

"I can hear you, you know?" Lyon announced, a frown forming on his 'face' as he crossed his arms. "And my name's not really that complicated. Just call me Chromastone. But I also go by another name." He stated, glaring at Rex who checked all the boxes for the typical, full-of-himself wiseass.

Eve frowned, and pinched the bridge of her nose, shaking her head. "Rex, please be nice. We don't want him to feel unwelcome here. For all we know, he could be far from home." Eve lectured with as much patience as she could muster, raising a hand at Rex for him to cease. "Sorry about Rex here. He means well, but he can kind of be an ass at times." She apologized.

"Don't worry 'bout it, met plenty of his type before." Lyon assured, waving off Eve's concerns. He smiled, towards her, and the rest of the team. "But you are technically right on the 'far from home' part. But you think we could get someplace to talk in private? Preferably without any prying eyes around?" He asked.

"Okay?" Eve slowly said, nodding her head as she thumbed the direction behind her. "We've got a place not far from here where we could talk. But what for?" She asked curiously, only to notice that Lyon was moving his hand towards the Omnitrix on his chest. "Wait, wait, wait, what are you doing?" Eve asked in a brief panic, stepping back as the rest of the Teen Team prepared themselves for a fight.

However, instead of fighting, Lyon tapped his hand on the Omnitrix, reverting to his human self with the flash of green light. This briefly caught everyone by surprise, shielding their eyes as they took a second to rub their eyes, glancing at Lyon. Immediately, their expressions changed, with a few of them looking stupefied when they looked at Lyon, noticing just how... normal he looked. Human, even.

"Ah, that's much better. I like having clothes. Being naked feels weird, and not in the fun way." Lyon groaned out, rolling his shoulders and popping his back as he gave the Teen Team a grin. "Pleasure to meet y'all. And I hope one of you doesn't mind buyin' me some grub. Because I've got a hankerin' for some New York-style pizza." He chuckled.

Lyon had to admit, the looks on their faces was absolutely priceless.

Like a hungry animal, Lyon merciless devoured the full-course meal being served to him. Better than any sort of gas station food he's had over the past two days, he tore through the pizza, garlic bread, and diet soda he was served. Of course, he didn't particularly care that it was because of Atom Eve's absolutely bullshit powers that she transmuted some fruits and vegetables into perfectly made takeout. And without a shred of any table manners, Lyon dug in.

"Okay, gotta admit, your power is absolutely bullshit. Transmutation and atomic manipulation? Fuckin' awesome." Lyon commented through a mouthful of garlic bread, pointing the other end of the stick at her and chuckling. "God, this is the best fuckin' pizza I've eaten. Not sure how it should be this good, but it is. Ain't smart to turn down a good meal." He stated, raising a single finger as he tore apart the garlic breath with his teeth.

"Uh, dude? Weren't you an alien? Are you forgetting that?" Rex asked, his arms crossed and his face scrunched up as he stared at Lyon as if he had a third head. "That's... gotta be freaky, man. Like, where does everything go? Does your dick also change? Ugh." The explosive, teenage hero asked as he let out a visible shutter of discomfort.

"It's not as bad as you make it out to be, kid. Just a tiny bit of DNA rearranging." Lyon replied with a carefree grin. "Courtesy to this little alien doohickey currently stuck on my wrist - the Omnitrix. It lets me turn into different aliens just by scrollin' through it." he said, wriggling his arm about and causing most of the Teen Team to let out a startled yelp, leaping back. "Relax. It only does it for me. Since it's apparently coded to my genetic code. I tried to take it of, believe me." Lyon explained, finishing his garlic bread and loudly slurping his soda.

"And how exactly do you know this information?" Robot asked suspiciously.

Lyon shrugged. "It's complicated. The Omnitrix kinda imprinted some information into my brain. Explaining how it works, who created it, and why. But at the same time, it kinda jumbled most of what's in here, too." Lyon half-explained and half-lied, making circular motions with his finger next to his head. "I remember some stuff. My name, fuzzy memories about my family, growing up, all that." elaborated, leaning back into his seat with a smile. "But hey, at least I get to join in on the superhero club now. Everyone's gotta start out somewhere. Especially considering that I was just an ordinary guy before this thing crash-landed near me and jumbled my brain. Heh." Lyon concluded, a carefree smile stretching across his face as he gauged the reactions of the Teen Team.

In his mind, however, Lyon was doing his best not to panic openly. He was eating transmuted food, in front of the second-most terrifying woman in this universe, and in the same room with possibly the smartest man in this universe as well. Lyon knew he was talking out of his ass, and he didn't see much of a choice. Still, at least he went to prove that he was on their side and not against them. And he thanked God that Rex didn't try to immediatley try to throw shit at him to start a fight.

Rex was cocky and arrogant, sure, but it was thanks to Eve that he cooled down enough to not start something. It was clear to Lyon that Eve was the heart of the whole team, and that Robot was the obvious brains. After all, if they were willing to trust Invincible the moment he showed up, then surely they would do the same for him, right?

Suddenly, from the other end of the room, a bright yellowish light flashed. Lyon took a moment to shield his eyes as a new face emerged forth from the light. He squinted for a moment, recognizing the silhouette of the new figure standing before them. Wearing a black suit with a red tie, balding gray hair, and a noticeable amount of scaring on the right portion of his face. Lyon gulped as he knew exactly this man was.

Cecil Steadman, head of the Global Defense Agency.

The government agent stepped forward, rubbing the back of his neck as he let out an audible groan. Raising his head up, Cecil walked, glancing at Robot with a stern look, then towards Lyon.

"Okay, what is it that you all have called me for? It better be important."
