Chapter 3 - [3]. Leaving Planet Vegeta

After walking for a while, a small house appeared in view.

"I'm back, Bii'er."

Kaso stepped inside, a giant fish slung over his back, heading straight toward the kitchen.

Ausbi'er popped out of her room, clapped her hands happily, and said, "Kaso-gege, you're back! Wow, we get to eat fish again tonight!"

For the past few days, Kaso had brought home wild game each time he returned from training. He thought Ausbi'er was far too thin—her power level barely over 100, just like his used to be.

No wonder she got bullied before. With that kind of nutrition, how could she grow?

But now, just a few days later, Ausbi'er was already starting to fill out. Her complexion was no longer pale, but rosy. All thanks to the meals he'd hunted.

Kaso cleaned and prepped the fish, then set it on a rack over the fire.

Soon, the fish began to sizzle and char slightly, releasing a savory aroma that filled the air.

Standing at the doorway, Ausbi'er stared at the fish, practically drooling.

"Kaso-gege, I'm hungry! I want to eat!" Her little brows scrunched up as she whined.

"It's ready." Kaso smiled. This girl really was a little foodie.

After dinner, Ausbi'er hugged Kaso's arm as they sat on the bench together.

"Kaso-gege, I'm so full!" she said, rubbing her tiny belly, which had gained a bit of roundness lately.

"I'll catch more big fish for you from now on. How's that?"

"Mm!" Ausbi'er replied with a sweet, satisfied smile.

Kaso gently ruffled her hair. From the memories he'd inherited, he knew that she had been bullied badly by Nappa and his gang—sometimes beaten so badly she was covered in bruises, crying and running to her Kaso-gege for comfort.

The original Kaso had taken beatings for her sake too.

No wonder she was so attached to him.

Thinking about it, Kaso felt a pang of sadness in his heart. She was just a cute, innocent little girl… How could Nappa be so heartless?

Still, having killed Nappa today, he felt a little better.

From now on, he wouldn't let anyone hurt her again.

His thoughts wandered back to his training from the past few days.

He had made decent progress—faster than before—but there were still so many limitations here. He constantly had to be on guard during training, making sure no one was watching.

Saiyans were a cold and ruthless race. Who knew what kind of trouble he'd attract if someone discovered he had tripled his power level in mere days?

And he didn't dare venture into the more dangerous areas, either.

"I can't go on like this. At this pace, how long would it take to reach Frieza's level of power?"

Kaso clenched his fists.

"I need to find a way to leave Planet Vegeta… and take Bii'er with me."

If they waited too long, and Frieza started monitoring Planet Vegeta, it would already be too late.

Though he'd just avenged his past self, Kaso couldn't let his guard down. He still had to watch out for Vegeta and the Nappa clan catching wind of what happened… and more importantly, Frieza's ever-present surveillance.

Leaving Planet Vegeta was the only real way out.

But how?

"Right—Bardock!"

He suddenly remembered the original Kaso's parents had served under Bardock as their squad leader.

"Bii'er, I'm going to visit Uncle Bardock."

He gently set Ausbi'er down beside him and stood up to leave.

"Kaso-gege, come back soon!" she called out sweetly.

"Mm!"

Nighttime on Planet Vegeta was beautiful. No clouds obscured the sky, and you could see deep into the glittering expanse of space.

The moon shone brightly tonight, lighting up the path ahead clearly. Thankfully, it wasn't a full moon—otherwise, Kaso wouldn't have dared to step outside.

Saiyans with tails, under the full moon's Blutz Waves, would instantly transform into Great Apes, increasing their power tenfold.

But there was a catch. Most Saiyans lost all rationality in ape form and became mindless beasts, destroying everything until the moon vanished or their tails were cut off.

Only the royal bloodline and a few rare individuals could retain their sanity in this state. Vegeta was one of them.

Kaso arrived at Bardock's home and knocked.

"Uncle Bardock, it's me—Kaso."

The door quickly opened. Standing there was Gine, Bardock's wife.

"Kaso? It's you. What brings you here?"

Kaso got straight to the point—he wanted Bardock's help arranging a mission for him and Ausbi'er so they could leave the planet.

Bardock, after hearing his request, thought for a moment and asked:

"I promised your parents I'd take care of you two. Are you sure about this?"

"I am," Kaso replied firmly.

Bardock nodded.

He understood. Greenhouse flowers could never bloom strong. Only by leaving the eagle's nest could one soar through the skies.

He himself had gone through that. Born a low-class warrior, with far less talent than someone like Kaso, he was sent out on missions early, endured hardship after hardship, and built up the strength he had today.

Sometimes, letting go early was better.

"Thank you, Uncle Bardock. I'll work hard to grow stronger."

Kaso exhaled in relief. He'd thought Bardock would interrogate him.

But just as he was about to leave—

"Kaso," Bardock called out behind him. "You haven't seen that brat Nappa lately, have you?"

Kaso's heart skipped a beat. Did he find out?!

His mind spun through possible answers, but he calmly replied, "No, I haven't."

Bardock told him that Nappa had been missing for a whole day. He knew about the grudge between Kaso and Nappa, but as far as he was concerned, it was just a squabble between kids.

Still, he warned Kaso not to leave the house for the next few days—just in case he got dragged into something.

From the original memories, Kaso knew—Bardock truly did care about him and Ausbi'er.

With that settled, Kaso breathed easier. But the urgency remained.

He had to get off Planet Vegeta soon.

Once they discovered Nappa's death, not even Bardock would be able to protect him.

A few days later.

Two small space pods were parked in the central square. Two short figures stood beside them.

"Kaso-gege… Are we really going on a mission? I'm scared…"

Ausbi'er's voice trembled as she looked up at him.

Before, with Bardock looking after them, her biggest problem had just been Nappa's bullying. As an Elite Saiyan, she'd never needed to go on actual destruction missions.

But sometimes she overheard the adults talking… Saiyans who went out didn't always come back.

The more she thought about it, the more scared she became.

"Don't be afraid, Bii'er. I'll protect you."

Kaso couldn't leave her behind on Planet Vegeta.

Without his protection, she could get caught up in the fallout of Nappa's death. He'd never be able to rest easy leaving her behind.

She was the only family he had in this Dragon Ball world.

He gently patted her head. "Everything's going to be okay."

Besides… it wouldn't be long before Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta.

Kaso had no intention of returning here after the mission.

His goals were clear:

☑ Go to Namek, find the Dragon Balls

☑ Visit Planet Yardrat, and learn the ultimate survival technique: Instant Transmission

Ausbi'er climbed into her pod. Kaso set her flight path and coordinates.

Standing outside her pod, Kaso looked at her through the glass. He gave her a firm, reassuring nod—then turned and entered his own pod.

FWOOOOOOM—

Two streaks of fire burst from the engines.

With a roar of heat and light, the two space pods blasted into the sky, punching through the atmosphere—

—and shot into the dark, boundless universe beyond.
