Chapter 1 - An abandoned baby

It was in the middle of a night, a couple of parents was walking through a lawless city with their umbrellas.

The father and mother were discussing something while carrying the baby in the heavy rain.

The sound of the rain was resonating with the sadness of the night, it wasn't a very pleasant night. After all, it was a night that'd have almost taken away an innocent baby's life.

After a few minutes of discussion between the parents, the parents had complex expressions on their face; they were indecisive on whether or not to abandon the baby.

The mother felt sadness for having to abandon her own child but the father was thinking with rationality. They had to abandon the baby because it was said that the baby would never become a "hero".

But why? Why abandon a baby just because it's not going to become a hero? Is it only because it was a world full of heroes?

Well, no. That was not the only reason. It was because the child was cursed; they had to abandon the child if they didn't want their whole family to suffer.

The parents had 2 other childrens before him, if he wasn't a cursed baby then he would've had an elder brother and an elder sister...

Thinking of this, the parents were quite heartbroken. In the end, they decided on a conclusion. They were originally planning to kill the baby painlessly and dispose of it.

Now, they couldn't bear to kill their own child, a child that was cursed. The reason they had to abandon their child over a curse is simple.

It wasn't just an ordinary curse. In this world where everyone is born with gifts, he was born with a curse. Not being born with gifts is only trivial matter since there are also such cases..

But you could still receive gifts if given by others... gifts are natural and essential for humans of this world. But the cursed child couldn't receive gifts. Moreover, the cursed child was born with dark energy or dark mana.

This was a curse because people with dark energy were naturally evil, they can't control themselves and their bad nature couldn't be hidden, except for, uh well, people who could?

It's not impossible to control own self's nature but it just doesn't disappear because you can control it. You'd still be evil at heart no matter what you do.

Dark energy is only received through other dark heroes or let's just call them dark humans, which will mean humans that uses dark energy.

It was only received through intentions, it wasn't natural. For reasons dark energy exist, it's because of power, power corrupts people and dark energy gives power. And in the same way, it corrupts, entirely.

People with dark energy weren't born naturally, this child was a special case. The fortune teller foretold that he'd never become a hero and that his fate was sealed to never be one.

The moment the baby was born the doctor that helped it gave birth suggested abandoning the baby immediately. It was going to become someone that'd destory earth someday, in one way or another. That's what they believed.

But how could they? It was only a baby. The parents still knew this. That's why they couldn't bring themselves to kill the baby immediately.

They only decided after a week, to abandon it and dispose of the baby in a lawless city like this one, that was called Francis.

A completely lawless city where you can do anything as long as you have powers... Even heroes didn't bother taking care of this city.

Because there was no saving it and there was more to lose to gain in doing so... It was a perfectly logical choice. But it led to many criminals growing up and causing chaos.

Which they'd have to deal with later anyways, sucks for the heroes. They had to follow such strict rules after all.

So the baby was abandoned in the heavy rain in the dark night, it was destined to die there.. if not for an old geezer passing by.

An old geezer that lived in a secret basement in the lawless city, he wasn't exactly a hero or a dark energy user.

He was just a librarian of this lawless city... Being a librarian in such a city like Francis meant he needed to be fairly powerful aswell.

This old geezer was quite powerful, more than the average hero. He was a retired ranked hero.

So of course, he knew immediately that this baby had dark energy... Well, he didn't know whether it was born with it or simply corrupted through other means..

However, this old geezer decided to let the child grow. He was going to adopt it, holding an umbrella over the baby, he whispered softly to the crying baby.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine, little one."

The crying baby that was unnoticed the entire time the parents were arguing, it was completely neglected and abandoned.

Only having lived a week, the baby was completely confused. It didn't understand and it didn't know anything. It was never corrupted. It was just a baby...
