Chapter 21 - A Change Too Subtle

The skies were calm. The winds, ordinary. The world below spun like any other day. But the souls that had once ruled stars were no longer above — they were now among them.

Silently embedded in human vessels, the dragon souls had found their way.

They didn't speak.

They didn't move.

They simply… waited.

High School – Present Day

The bell rang. Laughter erupted across the courtyard of Arivaan High.

Vikran leaned over the railing of the second floor, gazing at nothing in particular. His silver-grey hair shimmered under the light, catching strands of sun like metal threads.

"Ameira's waiting for you," Rudren called, slinging his bag across his back.

"She can wait," Vikran replied, turning slowly, a small smile tugging at his face.

The Day Before Changed Nothing

The souls had entered their bodies like whispers.

Not with blinding lights.

Not with shouts or power surges.

Just... a moment. A heartbeat. A strange pause in time — and then nothing.

The dragon souls had merged, but their voices remained silent. The students lived on, unaware. Soulbound, but unknowing.

Ameira

She sat beneath the cherry blossom tree, sketching.

Watercolor hues spilled from her brush, painting soft rivers and glimmering skies. Her eyes shimmered like glass, calm as the ocean on a still day.

The White Dragon had chosen her — a girl of clarity and care. But she hadn't heard it. She didn't even feel different.

Only lately, the wind listened to her hums.

And water never spilled when she painted.

Rudren

Hard-working. Focused. Cold to some, but not cruel. After school, he worked part-time at a delivery store. Strong hands. Tired eyes.

The Black Dragon's essence slept deep within him. Its presence coiled like a storm cloud in silence.

Only lately, his anger sparked faster.

Only lately, his steps crackled when he ran.

And sometimes… his fingertips stung with static.

But he thought it was just stress.

Vikran

The lion's soul rested deep. A golden presence wrapped in quiet sorrow.

And Vikran? He was the same boy who fed stray calves behind the school. Who smiled when he hurt. Who never showed the scars inside.

But deep in the core of the Earth, the lion stirred sometimes — not because danger neared, but because his soulbound was near others like him.

The world tilted ever so slightly. But no one noticed.

Something Shifting

The three students walked home, laughing under soft light. Their shadows danced along the pavement.

A breeze swept past them, slow and knowing.

Unseen to all, far above, the spirits of the White and Black Dragons hovered — watching.

Waiting.

They couldn't communicate with their Soulbounds yet. But they could feel them.

The pieces had been placed.

Closing Scene

Inside Vikran's chest, the faintest pulse of golden energy flickered. It didn't roar. It didn't push.

It simply... glowed.

Far away, Ameira dreamed of skies she'd never seen.

Rudren woke one night, hand trembling with heat — unsure why.

None of them knew.

But fate had already chosen its paths.

And while the world continued on as usual... destiny had begun its quiet work.
