Chapter 5 - Prologue, Part 5

Ancestral Prewett Residence

In one of the rooms of the old house, Aila rocked her son while gazing beyond the trees surrounding the property. The dark forest seemed strangely quiet that night. The sky was pitch black, with no visible stars, as a full moon hid behind the clouds.

Aila suddenly felt her son stir in her arms. She held him tightly against her chest as she stood up and left the room.

In the dining room, William and Carla were laughing as they played around and set the plates on the table. Above them, various utensils and ingredients danced in the air, being prepared magically. Both were lost in their own little world, chatting about something random and completely ignoring Aila.

Aila watched them with a faint smile, but she quickly wiped it from her face. She took a firm step forward, making the wooden floor creak beneath her foot, causing Carla and William to finally notice her presence.

"Ah, hi Aila," Carla said, her face flushed as she jumped, startled by Aila's sudden appearance. She shoved William, who had been trying to get closer.

"Dinner's almost ready," William said after regaining his balance, shooting an annoyed look at his sister. "Sit down, we're about to serve—"

"They're here," Aila said as she handed the baby to Carla.

"What?" Carla asked, stunned. The plates and food froze midair for a brief moment before crashing to the floor.

"You need to go," Aila continued, looking at the baby in Carla's arms with tenderness.

Carla stood in silence while William hurried out of the room with quick steps.

"They should arrive at any moment. The wards and barriers around the house prevent Apparition, so you'll have to run out of the protected area before you can Disapparate."

"Wait, Aila. How did they find this place? You said it was impossible for them to find us here, that only Fabian knew about this location!" Carla was panicking.

More than once she had wanted to leave, but Aila had always insisted this was a safe place. Carla hadn't believed her at first, thinking Aila was just worried that Fabian might come looking for her and not find her.

However, over time, Carla had checked for herself and discovered not only a vast series of spells but also curses protecting the place.

As a Muggle-born, Carla knew ancient wizarding families were powerful, but she had never truly understood the disparity between them until she came to this house. Honestly, maybe only places like Hogwarts and Gringotts were more protected than the ancestral homes of these great families.

It was also because she knew how hidden and well-guarded these places were that she couldn't understand how the Death Eaters had found them.

Had Fabian been captured? Had he let something slip? As she questioned herself, Carla saw William return, carrying his backpack.

"William…"

"You need to go," he said, pulling a few potions from the bag. "Aila and I will hold off the Death Eaters while you get as far away as possible to Apparate."

"…"

"You need to go, Carla, before—"

William was about to say more, but was cut off by a kiss from Carla.

Aila said nothing and simply continued pulling potions from her brother's bag.

After a few seconds, Carla pulled away, her brown eyes brimming with tears as she turned and left the house with the baby in her arms.

She didn't ask them to come with her.

Carla had lost too many friends in this war to believe that mere words could change the minds of people as determined as William or Aila.

So instead of wasting time, she just left, accepting that this might be the last time she would see them alive.

William stared at the door for a moment, then turned his gaze to the potions on the table.

"Do you think they'll work?" he asked, picking up a red potion.

"Do you doubt the notes?" Aila picked up another potion, this one with a purple hue.

"A toast, then." Both drank their potions and waited in silence.

"They've arrived." Aila stood with her wand in hand as William removed his round glasses and placed a hand on the hilt of the Sword of Gryffindor.

Aila gave a small wave of her wand, and a thick mist enveloped both her and William before spreading out of the house and starting to cover the forest.

"Let's go. We have guests to welcome."

10 minutes earlier – 2 kilometers from the Prewett residence

Narcissa and Bellatrix stood in silence, staring at the barrier ahead while a group of nearly thirty people hurled powerful spells at it.

The combined power of so many Dark wizards was no joke, and soon the barrier would break.

"Do you think she'll run?" Bellatrix asked as she watched the barrier quietly, her usual arrogant smile replaced by a serious expression. "She ran before, maybe she'll run again."

"No. This time it will be a fight to the death," Narcissa said, her voice low as she watched the barrier crack even more.

Bellatrix fell silent. She wanted to kill Aila, wanted to bring her body to Voldemort as proof of loyalty and love for him. But part of her—a small part—still wanted Aila to live.

Not because she cared for her, but because Aila represented everything Bellatrix believed was right, and killing her somehow felt like betraying those beliefs.

After a while, the barrier finally opened. Not completely—just a fissure wide enough for them to enter.

Narcissa didn't want to give Aila the chance to Apparate, so instead of destroying the barrier, she just created an opening.

"Bring them." Bella gestured to one of the Death Eaters present, who immediately brought out several bound people. She shoved them inside the barrier and released their bindings before looking up at the sky.

"It's starting." A smile crossed her face as she watched the clouds part and the full moon reach its peak in the dark sky.

The group of people Bella had brought began writhing immediately under the moonlight. Their bodies stretched and twisted painfully, bones breaking and reforming beneath their skin. Screams and growls escaped their throats as thick, dark fur sprouted, their nails lengthened into sharp claws, and their faces elongated into bestial muzzles.

In just a few seconds, where there had once been men and women, now stood werewolves, howling at the moon, their eyes glowing with wild ferocity.

The beasts, now devoid of any human thought, charged toward the Death Eaters and Dark wizards but were quickly halted and then driven away by a powerful curse cast by Narcissa and the others, forcing them to run straight toward the house, where Aila and William were waiting.

Author's Note

As for the werewolves, I've decided to stick with the idea that for them to fully transform, they need direct exposure to the full moon. On full moon nights, if they're not exposed, they'll still feel the effects of the transformation—they'll become more violent and unstable—but they won't reach the point of turning into actual beasts, at least not physically. I did some research and, although exposure isn't technically necessary according to the official lore, this will be the explanation I'm sticking with for this story, okay?
