Chapter 7 - Mischief Spell

Looking at Paladin Took beside him, Dui silently said in his heart.

[Successfully signed in! Congratulations on obtaining "Prank Spells: Bringing a Little Fun to Your Life"!]

Prank Spells? Dui was attracted by the name of the Magic book.

However, considering that he was currently at someone else's home, he temporarily put the book away, planning to read it when he had some private time.

"This is my wife, Rosalie."

"This is my son, Paladin the Second."

Paladin Took introduced his wife and son to Dui.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all, I am Wizard Du Yier."

Dui politely smiled and introduced himself.

However, most of his attention was on Paladin the Second, who was only seven years old.

This should be Pippin's father.

Like his father, he had curly golden hair, and even his feet were covered in golden fur.

He hadn't met the future members of the Fellowship of the Ring yet, but he had already met his grandfather and his still-young father.

It could be considered a wonderful fate.

Paladin's wife was a gentle woman; after bringing Dui some snacks and tea, she went into the kitchen to prepare a lavish meal to entertain their guest.

Paladin the Second, on the other hand, was a lively and active child.

He curiously watched this tall Wizard, listening to his father converse with him, his constantly darting eyes revealing his restless nature.

"Wizard Du Yier, what kind of Magic do you know?"

"Don't be so rude! Paladin," Paladin reprimanded, then apologized to Dui.

Dui smiled and shook his head, indicating he didn't mind.

Now, performing Magic had become his regular routine whenever he arrived at a new place.

He even considered that once the money Bilbo gave him ran out, he might consider earning money by performing Magic.

Dui slightly raised his hand, and the little Paladin opposite him floated up.

Little Paladin gasped, then happily waved his hands and feet in mid-air.

Paladin watched this scene in shock, speechless for a long time.

In the evening, after being warmly entertained by the Took family and enjoying a sumptuous meal, Dui was arranged to rest in the guest room.

Finally alone, Dui eagerly summoned the reward he had signed in for that day.

Opening "Prank Spells," Dui's eyes grew brighter the more he read.

The content of the book, as its title suggested, recorded prank-type spells, including Densaugeo, Tarantallegra, Rictusempra, Flagrate, and Leg-Locking Curse.

Among them, the Densaugeo spell caused the victim's front teeth to grow continuously until they reached the ground, making them unable to speak.

Tarantallegra caused the victim to dance continuously; unless a counter-spell was cast, they would dance forever, with consequences similar to the story of the Red Shoes in Andersen's fairy tales.

Rictusempra caused the victim to itch all over, laugh uncontrollably, and become completely limp and unable to move; if the spell wasn't broken, they would literally laugh themselves to death.

Flagrate caused the victim's skin to feel as if it were being burned by fire, producing intense pain and a burning sensation.

And the Leg-Locking Curse would stick the legs together, making walking impossible, only allowing hopping.

Although these spells seemed to have little power and were only for pranks, they could produce different effects when used on people who couldn't use Magic.

Looking at the contents of the book, Dui really wanted to try the effects of the Prank Spells.

But considering he was still at someone else's house and had no one to practice on, he could only temporarily put it aside.

Over the next few days, under Paladin Took's introduction, Dui met other members of the Took family.

The Took family was a large family, numbering several hundred people, all living in the Great Smials.

The Took family members expressed curiosity and welcome towards Dui, the Wizard; every family eagerly invited Dui to be their guest and prepared lavish meals.

Great Smials Banquet Hall.

The Took family banquet was in full swing.

In front of Dui, however, there were more than a dozen children lined up, all looking at him eagerly.

Dui smiled and chanted a spell at the Hobbit child at the front of the line.

"Tarantallegra ~"

As soon as the words fell, a red light flew out from his palm, striking the leading Hobbit child.

The child's body stiffened, and the next second, his legs began to dance uncontrollably.

"Cool!" All the children's eyes widened, full of astonishment.

"Next!" Dui shouted.

"Me! It's my turn!" The second child raised his hand and shouted excitedly.

"Okay, don't rush, it'll be your turn soon!"

"Tarantallegra ~"

The second child also began to swing his legs, dancing a joyful tap dance, giggling as he rushed into the dance party.

The children waiting in line immediately eagerly squeezed forward, their eyes full of anticipation, waiting for Dui.

And the surrounding adult members of the Took family not only didn't stop them but also had an eager impulse, ready to join the children's ranks at any moment.

Seeing this scene, Dui could barely suppress the urge to smile.

Indeed, practicing Prank Spells on spiders and practicing them on people yielded different results.

If he had a proficiency system panel at this moment, his mind would probably be constantly prompting "Proficiency +1."

...

Dui didn't stay long in Tak Town before setting off again.

This time, the wealthy Paladin Took directly gifted him a pony-drawn carriage.

Having a means of transportation, Dui was naturally very happy.

Moreover, the ponies raised by Hobbits were very obedient and intelligent; Dui didn't need to urge them much, they would just follow the road forward on their own.

Dui sat in the carriage, with a mouse in a cage in front of him.

This was something he had asked Paladin Took to catch for him, specifically for practicing Prank Spells.

Although Prank Spells were named for pranks, they had great practical value.

For example, Densaugeo could make a person unable to speak, which was a very useful trick, especially against those who couldn't cast spells silently.

Rictusempra made people laugh uncontrollably, losing the power to resist;

Tarantallegra made people dance involuntarily, preventing them from posing a threat;

The Leg-Locking Curse could restrain an enemy's attack or escape.

Flagrate would cause the skin to feel intense pain as if burned by fire, distracting the enemy.

So he planned to first master a few Prank Spells to enhance his combat strength.

"Rictusempra ~"

"Rictusempra ~"

...

On the flat road, Dui's chanting continuously echoed from inside the carriage.

The pony lowered its head and pulled the carriage forward, the wheels creaking incessantly.

"Success!"

Dui didn't know how many times he had tried; by the time his mouth was almost dry, the spell finally reacted.

The mouse looked as if its funny bone had been tickled, continuously emitting squeaking laughter.

By the time the poor mouse was almost out of breath from laughing, Dui successfully broke the spell, preventing the mouse from laughing itself to death from exhaustion.

"Whoa ~"

He pulled the reins, slowing the horse.

Dui looked at the green grass on both sides of the road, which had unknowingly turned into an endless tobacco field, and looked into the distance.

"Are we almost at Longbottom?"
