growing up in the slums was no easy feat. Raeki had only braved the wild of the broken parts of the city for 4 years. Oron had his whole life. Raeki had no real answer as to why the other boy protected him so fiercely. The other didn't even ask questions as to why Raeki couldn't protect himself. Raeki couldn't help but look up to the stranger, the stranger who became his closest friend.
Oron had a pack of boys who followed him, a group he lived with in a small broken down building. It all changed when he came into the picture. Oron began to create distance between the boys he'd called brothers. At night, he'd join Rae in the corner, watching over him like some guardian angel. He seemed to lose faith in them over the first month.
Raeki never got why the boys seemed to understand. If he were them, he'd probably resent himself for stealing away a 'brother'. Despite Oron's ever close proximity, he'd never called Raeki his brother. Always treating him like some distant charge, like someone to defend. Raeki was treated like glass, yet he couldn't bring himself to object to it.
He was weak, he couldn't take care of himself. So what was he supposed to say?
When Raeki suffered through his illness, Oron was always there to help. Raeki had lived with these strange fevers since he was 12, they came like clockwork. Yet, whenever Oron was around, they were always more bearable.
