Chapter 32 - The Forest of Death

As for Seisuke and the other two, as soon as they entered the Forest of Death and could no longer see Yuhi Shinku behind them, Seisuke said, "Since Teacher Shinku said there will be trackers, it means we probably won't have much time to rest properly. In that case, let's lead them astray. We'll use shadow clones and then split up into three groups!"

Kurenai said, "You want to confuse the trackers, but what if the other side also knows the shadow clone technique?"

"We can make the clones disappear suddenly at that time." Seisuke smiled mysteriously and said, "Let's use the shadow clones first."

The two did as he said, each creating two shadow clones, and Seisuke did the same. The clones formed teams and scattered in different directions. Seisuke led his group deeper into the forest.

As they shuttled through the trees, Seisuke said, "The trackers will follow us based on our footprints and other traces. Besides footprints, we need to find ways to get rid of the smell on our bodies."

"How do we do that?" Asuma asked.

"It's simple. Just find something with a strong smell and smear it on ourselves." Seisuke grinned wickedly. "This isn't that difficult. It's just about counter - tracking. So, we need to be careful when we move and try not to leave footprints."

"You make it sound easy, but not leaving footprints is extremely difficult." Asuma said. "Kurenai is lighter in weight, so maybe she can do it. But it'll be a bit troublesome for us two, right?"

"That's easy too." Seisuke smiled mysteriously. "We just don't use our feet."

"Are you out of your mind? Not use our feet?"

If not using feet, what else could they use? Their tongues?

Seisuke took out a small roll of steel wire and said, "We'll use this. Swing from tree to tree. Try to land in places that are not easy to notice. Also, pay attention to large wild beasts along the way. Once we find one, Kurenai can use genjutsu to control it, and it can be our free means of transportation."

After hearing what he said, Kurenai exclaimed, "Seisuke, you don't usually listen in class, do you? Yet you know so much, and some of these things the teacher didn't even teach us."

"Did the teacher teach this?"

"Didn't the teacher?"

The two looked at each other, feeling a bit awkward. Seisuke kept staring at Kurenai, making her feel embarrassed, so she turned her head away.

Asuma said jealously, "It's impolite of you to stare at Kurenai like that."

"Hmph! What do you know? If I'm not embarrassed, then the other person will be. Watch and learn." Seisuke patted Asuma on the shoulder and said, "Let's go. We can't just stay put during this wilderness survival training."

Seisuke wound the steel wire around a kunai. He found a suitable big tree and threw the kunai. The kunai stuck into a moss - covered branch. Then, he jumped off the branch, and his body swung to the opposite tree by inertia. Subsequently, he tied the part of the steel wire he was holding to another kunai and threw it out again.

Kurenai caught it and swung over, followed by Asuma. Then Asuma made a similar piece of steel wire and threw it out, while Seisuke retrieved his kunai. After that, they took turns moving forward in this way.

About an hour later, Kurenai pointed at a big bear, about four to five meters tall, rubbing against the tree trunk under the tree and said, "That bear can carry us."

"Okay, Kurenai. We're counting on you."

Kurenai grabbed the steel wire and slid down to the front of the giant bear. She easily controlled the bear with genjutsu, making it lie down. Asuma and Seisuke landed on the bear's back.

"Let's go!" Kurenai smiled and made the bear move forward. The footprints she had left on the ground were replaced by the bear's footprints.

They effortlessly made their way deep into the Forest of Death and took a break by a river. Asuma and Seisuke caught several fish for dinner.

To avoid revealing their location, Seisuke and the others ate raw fish slices. Fortunately, they were all natural and pollution - free, and their bodies could handle it!

At night, the three of them arranged the watch - keeping schedule and took a good rest.

In the darkness, Yuhi Shinku was following their tracks. At first, the footprints made by the shadow clones didn't deceive him. It was as if he didn't know the shadow clone technique himself. But as he followed, he realized he had lost their trail!

He, a Konoha jonin, had lost track of three genin brats. If this got out, his peers would laugh at him!

This couldn't be allowed!

After careful observation, he found marks where kunai had stabbed into some trees. He then understood that these little guys were traveling in an inconspicuous way. He sniffed the air, which smelled like the primeval forest.

He nodded. They had even cleared the smell, leaving no obvious traces. Not bad.

He didn't need to worry about leaving any marks himself and continued to follow the kunai marks. But in the end, he really lost them. He couldn't find any signs of where they had gone.

"Are they really genin?" Yuhi Shinku couldn't help but wonder.

This anti - reconnaissance ability was truly top - notch. Some jonins didn't do as well as them. It was a fact that being tracked by a jonin and leaving no obvious traces was an extremely remarkable feat.

"They're performing well, but the Forest of Death is not an ordinary forest."

In the dark night, Asuma was on guard, Seisuke was lying on a tree, and Kurenai was leaning against a tree.

The ear - pleasing chirping of insects filled the air. The forest at night was far more terrifying than during the day. Under the cover of night, a large number of predatory animals came out to look for food. Asuma heard the howls of wild beasts, the sound of teeth tearing at prey, and the crunching of bones more than once.

When night fell, this forest seemed to come alive.

Thank goodness, Kurenai and Seisuke were both there. Wait, where was Seisuke?

Seisuke, who had been on the tree just now, suddenly disappeared. Alarmed, Asuma quickly woke Kurenai up and said, "Seisuke is gone."

"Didn't you notice?" Kurenai asked, rubbing her eyes.

"No, I just turned my head for a moment."

"Damn it! You actually wanted to eat me? You're courting death!" Seisuke's angry shout came, followed by the howl of a wild beast and the sound of a sharp weapon slicing through flesh.

Not long after, Seisuke dragged a snake out of the grass and said, "I almost got swallowed."

This python had secretly coiled around him and was about to drag him into the grass to eat him, but it didn't expect Seisuke to be such a tough nut to crack and was instead killed.

"Thank goodness you're okay." Kurenai patted her flat chest, clearly relieved. Asuma laughed and said, "You were sleeping too soundly, weren't you? You didn't even know you were being dragged away by a snake."

Seisuke glared at him. "You still have the nerve to say that? You were supposed to be on watch. You didn't even notice how I was dragged away. What kind of watch - keeping is this?"

"Woof - woof!"

The howl of wolves came. In the dark forest, pairs of (glowing green) eyes lit up, cold and greedy.

"There are wolves. Jump onto the trees."

The three of them jumped onto the trees. These wolves were huge, with a shoulder height of about 1.5 meters, but they couldn't climb the trees and could only stare helplessly.

"Roar!"

Suddenly, a crisis struck. A black panther pounced from the opposite tree, but Asuma killed it with a shuriken.

The first night was really exciting.
