Philly scanned the room. If Bright got a hold of her,she would get additional scars to her body. Bright was just a step away from a hug. Philly grabbed her duvet and wrapped Bright with it neck to legs. She then hit his neck at the carotid sinus her hand in a karate chop form. It instantly whacked him out and the heat energy ceased. She felt awful after doing that but it was either put him to sleep or experience a heat blast. She quickly unwrapped and threw the duvet outside the window. It was nearly on flames.
She lifted Bright putting him onto her bed. The duvet sparked consumed with flames. She grabbed a bucket and dashed to the bathroom filling it with water which she poured on the flames. Some neighbors noticed it, but after it was extinguished they relaxed and resumed with their doings.
Philly sighed, thankful that the situation didnt go overboard that much. The heat in the room was cooled down with the cold night breeze from the open window. She turned to Bright who was sound asleep. She closed the open window as a yawn followed. She was still sleepy. She grabbed another duvet from her closet. She decided to sleep with Bright for the night. Someone had to keep him sane through this dark time he was facing.
She tossed herself onto the bed right next to Bright. She turned facing him as her arms grabbed his waist and pulled him closer. She gave him a little peck on his cheek and whispered good night. Nothing else needed to be said. Slowly Philly drifted to sleep, her body awaiting for the usual hour it awakes.
"Oi sleepyhead.... wake up,"Philly said spreading the curtains the sun rays penetrating through the window into the room,"seven hours of sleep and your still snoring, I oughta give you a spanking."
Bright's eye lids struggled to open. Philly sounded like a slow mo record to him.
"Auntie what time is it?" Bright asked rubbing his crusty eyes.
"Time for you freshen up. Were moving out. Breakfast's ready, come down when you are."
It didnt take long for him to do so. The two sat for breakfast. Bright still didnt get why they were moving. The house was perfect,it had everything. When he asked Philly why, the reason felt absurd and hard to believe.
"I packed your things early today so don't worry about that. Don't worry ok,am doing this for a good reason." Philly said munching on a strand of bacon.
"Ok auntie, as long as mommy's with us I'll go anywhere." Bright said looking at the vase containing Gracy's ashes.
"Yea, she'll always be with us every step we take."
The two cleared the table once done. Bright helped Philly load what needed to to the trunk of the car. He said goodbye to the house. He had to trust Philly's words because she knew best.
They entered the car, Philly reminding Bright's to strap the seatbelt on.
"Ready to go chipmunk?" Philly asked her hand streached out landing on Bright's head and rubbing through his hair.
"Its kinda sad leaving so soon, but its ok as long as am with you. Am ready." Bright answered getting over that weird nostalgic feeling inside him.
The engine rumbled as Philly revved it. In a hasty pace, the drove off heading north.
The street was radiant as it should be. Bright watched as the car drove through some of best places he knew. He felt like a betrayer, someone who just abandoned what defined him. His mind began speculating what the actual reason could be for shifting towns.
Maybe its not safe here anymore. Maybe what happened to mom and me can happen again.
This though stood strong among others. Philly could be moving him to somewhere else to protect him from his father.
Should I ask her? I mean,I have the right to know it. Am no small kid. But then again, she knows what's best even if That's the case.
Bright scratched his head. He didnt like to think a lot because it was addictive.
"What's your genre?" Philly asked out of the blue.
"As in music preference?" Bright replied snapping out of his thoughts.
"Yea,which band gives you chills, which song slows time for you? Music heals the soul you know, it fixes up the wound you cant talk about, the ones that seem way far from your intervention." Philly said loosening her grip on the wheel.
Her words were true as day, even Bright agreed.
"I just listen....if the words and the beat sync with me, I don't mind the genre at all."
"Oh, good to know you ain't genre phobic, dealing with guys like that is hard. Ok then let's listen to some tunes."
Philly then inserted a USB stick in its port on the cars stereo system.
The USB had almost every song there was. Old is gold, pop, rock, reggae, trap, almost all genres.
The songs were a vibe hardly having any bad tunes.
"Auntie you've got good taste!" Bright feeling the vibe.
"What can I say.... experience is everything," Philly said smiling with pride as she speed up," your such a good kid. Easy to get along with. Your the bomb little chipmunk."
After hours of vibes, Philly's GPS alerted beeped. They were approaching their first stop.
"Say Bright, you wanna meet some of my friends?" Philly asked slowing down gradually.
"Sure, am down to meet them. They probably cool like you are." Bright said swiping the screen for some more bangers.
Twenty minutes down, Philly killed the engine. She parked the car a couple blocks from an abandoned cathedral in the middle of ghost town. They both got out the car.
"Spooky. Your friends are kinda scary auntie." Bright said looking around 360 as they approved the cathedral.
Philly grinned. She showed a face even bright never saw ever from her
"Your gonna love them Bright....trust me"
