As the police car and Luke exchanged positions, they also exchanged the momentum they carried.
The police car must have been chasing some villains, for when the space distorted around Luke, he found himself getting hurled forward at a fast speed.
Unlike the police car, he had no brakes to arrest his momentum.
Not to mention, he couldn't even see what was going on.
Right after using the Quirk, the rat on his shoulder had exploded, planting his face with blood and filth.
With a swooshing sound ringing in his ear, Luke crashed into the back of a car, shattering the mirror.
Cr-A-CK!
There was so much power behind the crash that the driver lost control and slammed into another car, beginning a chain of collisions.
As the honks and alarm beeps wreaked havoc around Luke, he got up, holding his back.
Even if he hadn't been a doctor, he could have figured out just by feeling that he had broken a few bones.
Groaning and biting through the pain, Luke looked at the chaos in his surroundings.
People were already panicking at his mere sight, as every inch of his torso was covered in blood. It was only a matter of time before Pro Heroes landed on the scene and apprehended him.
With no more lifeforms having bestowed Quirks anymore, he wouldn't even be able to resist.
I hope Nyx reached home safely… Luke thought, almost crawling toward an alleyway. She must have…
Luke's mind buzzed as if a missile had gone off there. No… Impossible…
BOOOMMMMMMMMM!
Some hundred meters away from Luke, a black meteor landed, the dusty shockwave toppling the crashed cars all around.
From the crater, the black-skinned Nomu walked out, saliva foaming in its mouth.
Luke's body had gone numb as he looked at the Nomu. He just couldn't believe it.
Because of their impact on the Final War in his previous life, the Blue Site's scientists had researched extensively to counter them, if they ever resurfaced, as per Mr. Reijirou's orders.
Coincidentally, Luke, too, had taken advantage of their research, gaining an in-depth idea of Nomus.
That's how, with just one look, Luke was able to identify which Quirks this Nomu possessed based on the Spirit Particles pattern.
In his previous life, he could have done the same by conducting a thorough analysis, learning the pattern of Quirk Factors.
However, the Spirit Vision bypassed everything, letting Luke see the very source as Quirk Factors were nothing but a physical manifestation of the Spirit Particles.
And that's why Luke was surprised beyond measure.
Nomu were supposed to be mindless fighters with multiple Quirks.
They had five tiers — Lower, Middle, Upper, Near High-End, and High End.
Among these, only the High End Nomus, who were growing under the Jaku General Hospital, would be able to think for themselves.
But, as Luke looked at the Nomu standing there, looking back at him, he knew… something had changed.
This Nomu didn't have intelligence a few moments ago.
Now —
"… $*%&@@ …"
Luke heard the incomprehensible growl, and a chill ran down his spine.
Involuntarily, as it had become a muscle memory these days for him, he activated the Spirit Vision to merely glance at the Nomu.
…
[NO!]
…
Scattered within the golden specks of light, a bloody redness stared back at Luke.
Unlike the Blue Spirit Particles he had seen within Midoriya, the Red Spirit Particles weren't coexisting with the golden specks, but — they were actively corrupting them as well.
Whichever golden Spirit Particle the red ones collided with, it also became red on the spot.
Not only that, but two blobs of Red Spirit Particles were centered on the Nomu's brain — like eyes.
Luke felt like he was falling… deeper into nothingness.
His skin was getting ripped off his body, his muscles were abandoning bones, and his bone marrow was getting pulled out as well.
Luke's eyes almost popped out and exploded into a wet mist.
However, following Miss Justice's scream, and as per his experience, he had canceled the Spirit Vision right after taking a look.
One look…
One look and Luke found himself on his knees, trying to forget about the Nomu as he used Cogitation to not lose control.
As Luke took deep breaths, his eyes losing focus, and pain stabbing into his sides, the Nomu walked up to him and stood there, looking down.
Luke's ears were ringing, but somehow, he looked up.
The Nomu was staring back at him with its unseen eyes.
"… So, it was you before," Nomu said, its voice sounding like the blades of two knives rubbing against each other. "… Did my Sister put you up to this?"
Luke smiled. He had barely heard the abomination.
There was no point in screaming at it, either, it seemed.
In his mind, Miss Justice was screaming for him to run. But how? He couldn't even feel his legs…
"… Something — strange about you," Nomu said, leaning over Luke. "… Hmm… I can't sense her… but… Never mind."
The Nomu raised its massive hand like a hammer.
Whatever, or whomever, was controlling the Nomu now seemed to have given up on gaining more answers, deciding on just killing Luke.
The fist came down.
Luke let out a final sigh.
Someone screamed behind him.
"Lunaaaaaaaaaa…" Wind whirled, and her voice felt like a wild rush of adrenaline. "… Rush!"
Luke couldn't even see how many kicks landed on the Nomu.
But he did see the Nomu getting thrown back like a bullet, its arm hanging loose by its side.
Boooooooooooooooooom!!
…
Rumi Usagiyama, Rabbit Hero: Mirko, the current No. 5 Hero in Japan, grinned wildly as she felt the backlash of kicking the Villain.
It was like kicking a solid block of concrete if concrete were made of flesh.
That didn't make any sense! Haha! Mirko's grin widened, finding the analogy hilarious. "Oi! Are you…"
She was about to look back when, growling like a mad beast, the Villain walked out of the rubble.
Mirko's eyes narrowed as she saw the torn arm regenerating right in front of her.
"So you can regenerate, huh? Think yourself some tough stuff?! Let's see if you survive this…"
Mirko's feet dug into the cracked road.
With a muffled pop, her thighs puffed, muscles straining like wires of steel underneath.
Then, as the Nomu pounced toward her, growling, she shot forward with a speed many times faster.
Luna —
The Nomu punched. Mirko vanished.
The next time she appeared, she was above the Nomu.
Spinning wildly like a cartwheel, her foot landed on the Nomu's head, planting it in the ground with a deafening boom.
— Fall!
When the dust settled, the Nomu came into sight.
It was lying listlessly on its knees with half of its body just dangling on one side. It was like someone had slashed right through it from its shoulder to its waist with a sword.
Its flesh was regenerating, but even Regeneration had its limit.
"Ha!" Mirko scoffed, stretching her feet. "Not so tough, are ya…"
The No. 5 Hero couldn't complete her words as a blackish thing fell out of the sky and landed right in front of her.
BOOOOOOOOM!
From the cloud of dust, another Nomu walked out, a size bigger than the one dying in front of Mirko.
"There are two of you?! Haha!"
Mirko shot through the air, gaining momentum, and kicked the new Villain before it could even process what happened.
However, in the very next moment, her eyes widened with shock.
Her feet had dug deep into the Nomu, its muscles squirming all over its body. But it didn't feel like it had even felt the kick.
The Nomu grabbed Mirko's leg, lifted her high, and threw her toward a building.
And the entire building came crashing down right on top of her.
