ISLA
I entered my office, a sweet smile tugging on my lips at the thought of what had just happened. This was what I had wanted, to get a hold of him. I was all over the moon and floating. Just then, I heard a knock on the door. Of course, it had to be Mia. She walked into my office, her expression smug.
"I hope you're not too busy," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "I need you to do something really important and real quick."
Important and real quick. I mentally repeated to myself.
She handed me a stack of documents, a pure look of disdain in her eyes. "I want you to proofread these reports and make sure they're error-free," she said. "And I want them on my desk by the end of the day."
I took the documents, though my fingers were trembling slightly. This woman had such a hold on me. I knew this was most likely some sort of punishment, a way for her to assert her dominance. But I wasn't going to let her intimidate me.
"Of course," I replied, trying to sound confident. "I'll get right on it."
I began going through the files while she still stood there glaring at me. I looked up to meet her icy gaze fixed on me.
"Do you need something else?" I asked, only intending to further irritate her.
Mia stood there, her arms crossed, her gaze fixed on me. I could feel her anger radiating.
"Do you need anything else?" I repeated, my voice steady. "Or are you just going to stand there and glare at me?" I was seriously fed up.
She chuckled dryly. "Oh, I'm just making sure you're not slacking off. After all, your boss doesn't tolerate ANYONE slacking off. You wouldn't want to disappoint your boss, would you?"
I rolled my eyes. "I'm capable of doing my job, Mia. I don't need you to babysit me."
She scoffed. "We'll see about that. I'll be keeping a close eye on you."
With that, she turned and walked away.
I gasped. I didn't even realize I was holding my breath for a moment. This crazy ass blonde bitch, I'm sure she doesn't wanna see the worst of me. I couldn't believe how petty she could be. It was clear that she was jealous of my relationship with Robert, and she seemed too determined to sabotage it.
As soon as I was done, I searched for Mia to hand back the files, but her office was locked and her assistant informed me that she left already. I cursed her soul under my breath. Taking a deep breath, I decided to call my driver, instructing him not to come pick me up.
I decided to go home with Robert. I knocked softly, the door creaked open, and I stepped inside his office. He was sitting at his desk, deep in conversation with a man I didn't recognize. The man was tall and imposing, with a stern expression.
I forced a smile. "Sorry to interrupt, I was just thinking maybe we could go home together. I already asked the driver not to come pick me."
The man regarded me with a curious gaze. I felt a chill run down my spine. Why did he look so intimidating
"Isla, why don't you head home?" He replied, his voice gentle but firm. "I have important business to discuss.."
I nodded, feeling a pang of disappointment. "Alright," I said, turning to leave." I took a final gaze at the man, who the hell was he and what was that aura?
As I walked out of the office, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. Robert seemed tensed.
When I got to the mansion, I waited for him thinking we might have dinner together but he never showed up. He also wasn't taking my calls. I was worried. Where was he? Who was he with? These thoughts kept me up through the night.
The next morning, I woke up early, hoping to catch him before he left for work. I rushed downstairs, expecting to find him at the dining table, sipping a cup of coffee. But the table was empty, though it was set for breakfast. A wave of disappointment washed over me.
He really didn't sleep home last night. Was he trying to avoid me again after what happened yesterday in his office?
I went to work, feeling drained and confused. As soon as I entered my office, Mia followed me in, a smug smile on her face.
"Did you finish those reports?" she asked tauntingly.
I picked the completed reports from my desk and handed it to her . "Yes, I finished them," I replied, my voice firm.
She flipped through the pages, her eyes scanning the document. "Hmm, not bad," she said, her tone condescending. "But there are a few errors here and there."
She handed the reports back to me. "You'll need to fix these before you submit them back to me."
I was furious. I had proofread the reports carefully, and I was certain there were no errors. But this witch was determined to find faults, to make me look incompetent.
"I'll double-check them," I said, trying to remain calm. "But I'm confident that they're accurate."
Mia smirked. "We'll see about that."
After she left, I couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration and resentment. She was constantly trying to gnaw at me. I was starting to wonder if she had a personal vendetta against me, or if she was simply jealous.
I couldn't help but think about him. I missed him, I worried so much about him. What was he doing? Why was he acting so distant?
I stood up abruptly, deciding to go look for him. At least, he ought to let his secretary know about his daily activities. I wouldn't just be kept in the dark.
As I reached for my doorknob, the door swung open, revealing Robert standing just on the other side of the door.
We both froze, our eyes locking. The surprise was mutual.
