Still, Logan's POV
We got to the feed store, and Timothy immediately pointed out puppies. A man was standing there with a box of dogs. "What would dad say if we brought him a few dogs?" I asked Timmy.
"I bet Tessie would like one." He said. I quickly asked dad how many cow dogs we needed, and he said two but didn't know of anyone who was giving them away.
"Let's get two pups and one for Tess," I told him. We got out and went over to the man. "Excuse me, how much are these little ones?" I asked him.
"These little ones are free, I just need to get rid of them before the day is over." The man told me. There were six pups total. "I'll take four off your hands," I told him.
He smiled. I picked out three of them, one for my girlfriend. "Which one do you want, Tim?" I asked my brother. He looked up at me. "Do you think dad would mind?"
"I'll take the hit. This is your Christmas from me." I told him. He looked over the three left. "That one." He said, pointing. I picked the pup up. "Tim, would you go ask Mr. Gale for a crate?" Tim bounded inside then a man came out with a wooden crate.
I put the four inside the wooden box and thanked the man. He nodded. Mr. Gale looked at the two remaining. "I think these two would make great store pets." He said, picking them up.
I got the feed purchased and stuck the pups in the truck. Then helped load it while Timmy picked out collars for them. I told him only three because I was going to put a ribbon around Tessie's for her birthday.
The only thing is, she won't know one is hers until I give it to her. I paid for the collars, too, and then we left for home. Dad wasn't happy that I brought four home.
"One is for Tess, I told Tim he could have one as a Christmas present from me, and the other two are the ones you wanted," I told him, handing Tim his pup.
"How old are they?" Dad asked. "I'd say at least two months. He told us they were housebroken and to keep them warm for winter." I told him, picking up Tess's pup.
"Is that the one you got for her?" He asked. "Yeah," I answered. "Pretty dog." He said. I looked down at the pup. It was a pretty dog. "It was the only one with this coloring," I told him.
"Remember the pup is your responsibility until you give it to her." He told me. "I know."
Tessie's POV
I pulled up in front of my grandpa's house. His truck was there, but Calvin's wasn't. I cut the engine as grandpa stepped onto the porch. It was close to six in the evening.
I jumped out and ran to him. "How's my squirt?" He asked. "Great! How's my grandpa?" I asked. "Still alive." He said. Then Cal pulled up. I ran out to hug my uncle. He picked me up and spun me around.
"How's my niece?" He asked. "Good, how's my uncle?" I asked. "Swell." He answered. We walked up to the house. "How's your boyfriend treating you?" He asked. "Sweet. He made it possible to make the trip up. He cares a lot more about family than himself." I said.
"If he cares more about family than himself, he'd rather die poor than rich. How's his schooling?" "Wants to get a bachelor's degree in college," I told him.
Cal nodded. "Which school?" He asked. "He didn't tell me which exactly, except that if we got any closer over senior year, he'd go to the same college as me no matter what," I told him.
"Sounds like he wants to keep you around. How is the temper?" "Um? I might have cussed a guy out for not leaving me alone once or twice. Logan and he are sworn enemies. So, I being with him keeps him away."
Cal smirked. "You are your grandfather's." He chuckled. We went inside the house. Usually, it's decked out for Christmas. "Should we tell her dad?" Cal asked Grandpa.
"Tomorrow morning, son." Grandpa answered. They let me go up to my room and get cleaned up. There was a box on the bed from grandpa.
Squirt,
Here's the first gift. Hope you like it.
Grandpa
I smiled and pulled the ribbon. Inside were a pair of jeans and a sweater. The sweater was my favorite color, royal blue, the same color as my eyes. I got out Logan's shirt and some undergarments. Plus a pair of sweats.
I got a shower and then went downstairs. "Whose shirt?" Cal asked. "Boyfriends," I answered. He didn't say another word. Grandpa didn't question it either. After supper, I went up to my room to talk to him.
"How's my girl?" He asked, picking up the phone.
"Missing you," I told him.
"When did you get in?" He asked.
"About six. How was your day?" I asked.
"Lonely without my buttercup." He answered.
"The trip was lonely without my hero," I complained.
"When are you coming home?" He asked.
"Once Christmas is over, the twenty-seventh or eighth," I replied.
"I'll call you every night before bed, ok?"
"Ok."
"I love you, buttercup."
"Love you more, hero." He chuckled before we both hung up.
He's definitely going to wait for me to come back. I curled up under my covers dreaming of him loving me, asking me to marry him, marrying him, children, our future.
