Chloe sat across from Kevin in the dull light of the courthouse office.
The papers lay between them.
No arguments. No extensions. No waiting period. Just signatures, proof, and an official end to something that had already fallen apart.
Kevin stared at the document, jaw tight. Like he thought signing would physically hurt him.
"This is fast," he muttered.
Chloe blinked, steady. "It's necessary."
Kevin exhaled sharply, rubbing his hands together. "And how exactly do I explain this to my family?"
She tilted her head slightly. "That sounds like your problem."
His lips pressed together, frustration flickering through his features. "You don't care at all, do you?"
She let out a soft breath, not bitter, just hollow. "I cared too much for too long. That's over now."
Kevin swallowed, eyes flickering toward the signature line. "And what about you?"
Chloe lifted a brow. "What about me?"
Kevin leaned back, arms crossed. "You don't have anybody, Chloe. No backup, no family—how exactly do you plan to handle this?"
For a moment, she just studied him. The way he assumed she had nothing. The way he had never even questioned it.
She straightened, voice calm. "I can manage."
Kevin scoffed, shaking his head. "Right."
And then—she signed.
A clean stroke of ink, no hesitation.
Kevin stared at the paper. Then, after a long beat, he signed too.
And just like that—they were done.
