I was pacing the hospital hallway like crazy. "Damn it! It's been over three hours and no one's telling us how Aiden is!" I screamed. Raven put her hand on my shoulder, but I pulled away. "My bunny... if he doesn't get better, he'll bring this hospital down!" I screamed, tears starting to flow. "Selena be strong! Aiden will be fine." Skyler was reassuring.
I turned to Noah, my voice shaking with emotion. "It's all my fault. If I hadn't been such a psychopathic bitch, none of this would have happened." "No, Selena" Raven interrupted me, her voice firm. "None of this is your fault. You can't blame yourself for what that monster did." She placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder, but I shook it off, unable to accept her kindness.
The double doors of the operating room opened and the Doctor came out, and next to him was Aiden's mother, who works at the hospital. Her face was almost pale. "We managed to remove the bullet, but he's in a coma!" the Doctor said, and her words shook me. She turned to his mother, who had said almost nothing since Aiden had been admitted to surgery. "Greta, go rest, we'll take care of your son."
The nurse led Greta and I to the waiting room, where we sat in silence. My heart raced as I thought about Aiden lying unconscious in a bed just down the hall. I had never felt so helpless before. I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees and burying my face in my hands. After what felt like hours, but was probably only minutes, Greta placed a tentative hand on my shoulder. "Selena?" she asked softly.
I looked up at Greta, her eyes filled with concern. "Yes?" I asked, my voice hoarse. "You should go home and get some sleep," she suggested gently. "There's nothing more you can do here tonight." "I'm not leaving him" I insisted, shaking my head vehemently. "Selena, you need to rest," she said firmly. "You're no good to Aiden like this. Please, go home. I promise I'll call you if anything changes."
I hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Alright," I agreed, standing up slowly. "Call me if..." "I will" Greta assured me, ushering me out of the waiting room and towards the elevator. As the doors closed, I turned to face her. "Thank you, Greta." She offered me a small smile. "Get some rest, Selena." The elevator ride down to the lobby was silent, each of us lost in our own thoughts.
As soon as I stepped outside the hospital, I was hit with a wall of exhaustion. My body felt heavy and lethargic, but I pushed through it, knowing that I needed to get home and try to rest. I flagged down a taxi and gave the driver my address. As we drove through the city streets, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease wash over me. What if Aiden didn't wake up? What if this was all my fault?
The taxi stopped and I paid him. Then I went into my cabin and collapsed on the bed. I couldn't sleep, my thoughts were only about Aiden. Will he wake up? I went to the desk and took out my secret diary where I wrote down everything about Aiden from the first moment I saw him. About my dark fantasies with him, about my manic obsession with him and many other things related to him.
I picked up the pen and began to write. _"Dear Diary, Today was the worst day of my life. Or maybe it was the best. I don't know anymore. Aiden is fighting for his life in the hospital, and it's all because of me. If I hadn't been such a psycho bitch, none of this would have happened. "_ I paused, the pen hovering over the page as I struggled to find the right words.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" I slammed the pen onto the paper, the ink splattering across the page as my emotions poured out onto the paper. "I can't even write about this shit. This is a mess." I tossed the notebook aside, the pages fluttering to the floor as I buried my face in my hands. I took a deep breath, trying to regain control of myself. But then my cellphone rang and I panicked. "Hello?" I answered, my voice shaky.
The voice on the other end of the line was soft but firm. "Selena? It's Greta. Aiden's awake." Relief washed over me like a tidal wave, and I slumped back in my chair. "Really?" "Yes," Greta confirmed, her voice laced with relief. "He's asking for you." "I'll be right there" I promised, already getting up and grabbing my keys. "See you soon" Greta said, ending the call.
I rushed out of my cabin, jumping into my car and speeding towards the hospital. The drive was a blur, my heart pounding in my chest the entire way. When I finally arrived, I sprinted through the parking lot and into the building, taking the stairs two at a time until I reached Aiden's floor. As I rounded the corner, I saw Greta sitting in the waiting room, her face tired but relieved.
When I burst into Aiden's room, he turned to look at me, his blue eyes bright despite the tubes and wires connected to his body. "Hey" he said weakly. Relief washed over me and I rushed to his bed, taking his hand in mine. "Hi, bunny." His skin was warm, and his grip was surprisingly strong, considering his current state. "How are you feeling?" "I'm a little sore, but otherwise I'm fine" he replied with a small smile.
"You're not the only one who's possessed by a, psycho." I laughed and kissed his forehead. Aiden's face suddenly became serious. "What did you do with Professor Cross?" he asked. "Raven took him to the police and he won't bother us anymore," I replied, and relief flooded his face. "What about Lyra? Where is she?"
"She's home" I replied. "I sent her to rest." "Okay then." I cupped his face in my hands and looked at him seriously. "I'm sorry, bunny! It's all my fault." Aiden grabbed my wrists and pulled me onto his lap, even though he'd just had surgery. "Don't ever say that again! It's that bastard's fault!" He pressed his forehead to mine and we stood like that for a minute.
