Chapter 17 - Family Dinner

Over a month had passed since Evan and Amari's conversation. He watched as Talon packed his bags and waved off his family, before entering a carriage that would surely take him to Veridia Academy. Although not having much to do, Evan managed to distract himself with the basic training he had done to get ready with his match with gram, along with managing most of the Slave Markets finances and disputes.

He greedily laughed to himself at his desk with the thoughts of great wealth coming into his head to purchase tier five artifacts to save his life. A particular artifact came into mind instantly though. It was the ring of Almore. It belonged to a now deceased Saintess Almore, who stored a large amount of her holy magic within the ring.

"Young Master Evan, a letter has arrived for you." Julius announced as he stood right in the doorway.

"Thank you Julius. Just leave it on my bed, I'll read it later."

As Evan continued to agonize over his work, Julius once again grabbed Evan's attention. His face held real concern for a moment as he looked into Evans eyes.

"Will you be eating with the family today, or shall I bring up your food?"

About to respond, Evan halted. He gripped his head in realization that he had yet to actually meet with his father and mother for all these days. He had prioritized himself too much on other matters that his relationship with his parents had remained the exact same when he inhabited Evans body.

'In most isekais the main character is supposed to meet with his parents who will then be surprised with his total change in attitude and behavior! How could I forget that! Wait… Evans' family is also a bunch of faceless npcs except his father Lungren, so im working with no information as well!'

He sighed as he looked back to Julius who was quite amused with Evans squirming inside his chair. Accepting the proposal to eat with this family, he was swiftly led to the dining room. It was massive in size, holding beautiful chandeliers and paintings.

Sitting down in their chairs was a Red headed woman who was quite beautiful, wearing the training uniform given to the trainee soldiers. His father on the other hand was rough looking and quite old. He wore a nice black suit with golden outlining. His greyish hair was neatly slicked back like, and his beard was trimmed and kept nicely.

His father loudly coughed as Evan quickly took a seat. As breakfast was quickly served out, he noticed his mothers occasional glances towards him. He paid no mind and dug into the delightful meal presented before him.

"Evan. Do you plan to attend Veridia Academy along with your brother?" His mother asked with a soft tone.

"Hmm? Oh yea, I already have someone working on my acceptance letter so don't worry about it."

"Thats amazing to hear, I thought you were going to laze around like a homeless man."

Evan spat out his foot in surprise as his mother still held up a bright welcoming smile.

"Y-Yeah. Sorry for asking, but what's with the get up mother? Are you training?" Evan asked as his mother bent her fork, still wearing the bright face.

"Im honestly disappointed you forgot, seeing as the last time this happened a few of us mothers ended up needing to be taken to a doctor. I suppose a refresher wouldn't hurt. Every year, our relatives come along and every mother competes in a tournament style duel. It gets my blood pumped just thinking about it!" Evans mother shouted as she slammed her hands down on the table, causing it to be indented.

"Honey, calm yourself. It's not for another few weeks. Anyways Evan, Veridia Academy huh?" His father questioned.

As Evan was about to respond, he noticed the entire mood of the conversation had changed. Instead of the light hearted and kind family atmosphere it had earlier, it had now devolved into a serious talk. His father stared daggers into Evan, clearly trying to understand his motives and why the sudden change of heart of attending an academy. It rubbed his father the wrong

way, especially since the incident between both Evan and Talon was not too long ago.

"I understand your worry father. If you wish for me not to attend the academy, then I won't."

`Nice! Now he will back off and let me attend just like in H.K.U!'

"Alright then, it's decided. You just won't attend the academy." His father said bluntly.

"Yes thank you fath- Say what now."

Evan dropped his fork, on the floor as the sound rang though the dining room. After realizing it, he swiftly returned his silver ware back to this plate. Without a doubt, Evan was fully confused.

He turned his attention fully to his father who looked as if he was about to slice Evans head. Evan wanted to argue against what he had just said, but also didn't want to go against his own word and mess up the little reputation he had with parents. Wiping his mouth, he excused himself and began to walk away.

"Honey, why don't you let him go. Yes he did something terrible, but at the end of the day he's still just a child. Plus I know a few of the instructors that teach there, so if needed I can just ask them to keep a good eye on him!" His mother explained, as her husband began to stroke his beard.

"Hmmm, you do have a point. Very well Evan. As much as I hate to place you anywhere near your brother, there would be no point in keeping you locked up here."

"T-Thank you father! I promise you wont regr-" As Evan was about to express his gratitude to his father, he was interrupted,.

"That's why you're taking Gram with you." Evans' father said, as he gave a sly smile, watching as Evans face slowly but surely was consumed by confusion.

"...Huh?"
