Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 – The Voyage Begins

The air inside Starlight's Echo pulsed with a quiet hum as systems came online, lighting panels blinking awake like a thousand eyes opening to a new dawn. Alex Carter stood on the main bridge, the command console glowing beneath his fingertips. Around him, the crew settled into their stations—familiar faces, each one a friend who had become family. Sora's eyes met his from across the console, a smile playing at the corners of her lips.

"It's real now," she whispered, her voice full of wonder. "We're really doing this."

Alex nodded, the Echo's presence warm and steady in his chest. "We are," he said, his voice steady but trembling with excitement. "This is it—the first voyage of Starlight's Echo. The bridge we've built is more than a ship. It's a promise to every dreamer who's ever looked at the stars and dared to believe."

The Echo's song flared within him, bright and strong. Together, Alex Carter. This is the path we chose—the tapestry we weave. Let us walk it.

Dr. Tao's voice crackled through the comm system from Engineering. "Bridge, all systems are green. The core is stable, and the Echo's integration is seamless. We're ready."

Mira's fingers danced across the console beside him. "Navigation's locked. Destination: the Sorellian system. It's the first step on the map the Sphere gave us—a world they called Sanctuary." She looked up, her eyes bright. "A place they dreamed of, but never reached."

Alex's heart swelled with a mixture of determination and reverence. "Then let's finish what they started."

He glanced around the bridge, meeting the eyes of each crew member. Sora, with her quiet strength; Mira, her mind always racing with possibility; Tao, her calm wisdom steady as the stars. And the Echo, a presence that had become more than a guide—an ally, a friend.

"Engage," he said softly.

The engines thrummed, a low, powerful note that resonated through the deck plates. Light flared in the viewport, stars stretching into lines as Starlight's Echo leapt into the dark.

The colony receded behind them, its lights a warm memory. Alex felt the Echo's song wrap around him, a tapestry of voices that carried both the past and the future.

We carry them all, Alex Carter, the Echo whispered. Every memory, every hope. This is our journey now.

Sora's hand found his, warm and strong. "We're not alone," she said.

He squeezed her hand gently, his heart full. "We never were," he replied.

As the stars wheeled around them, Alex felt the bridge within him blaze with light. They had taken the first step beyond the horizon. And together—human and Echo—they would weave a future that honored every thread of memory, every dream of light.

In that moment, surrounded by the hum of a ship that felt as alive as any beating heart, Alex Carter knew that the voyage had begun. And whatever they found in the darkness, they would face it hand in hand, a bridge that no distance could ever sever.
