Chapter 20 - Offer an Incense Stick

"The young man is very polite."

Miko's Father showed a kind smile, extended his hand, and shook Kano Yoruhoshi's.

When he saw the slightly astonished look in his daughter's eyes, he paused, then belatedly reacted and exclaimed,

"Wait a minute, you can see me?"

"Not just me."

Kano Yoruhoshi pointed to Yotsuya Miko, who was standing beside him.

"She can see you too."

"Huh?"

Miko's Father looked bewildered, appearing completely normal.

This further confirmed Kano Yoruhoshi's conjecture.

Miko's Father's departed soul was a very special existence with the ability to communicate.

The evidence was that he already knew that he and Miko could "see," but he didn't show any hostility.

"This, that…"

Miko's Father scratched his head, organized his thoughts for a long time, then looked at Miko and chuckled awkwardly,

"That, is this your boyfriend? Very good, very good."

Yotsuya Miko sighed helplessly, pressing her hand to her forehead, "You're already a departed soul, how can you still be so insensitive, honestly."

She had always been able to see her Father's departed soul. The reason she hadn't communicated with him was because terrifying Evil Spirits often appeared in the house.

Now, Miko wasn't worried about that problem anymore.

The house was "clean."

Somehow, a peculiar association suddenly formed in her mind.

Evil Spirits were like mosquitoes, and she was like someone with Type AB blood, always attracting mosquito harassment.

And the aura around Kano Yoruhoshi was like mosquito repellent.

If only he could be kept at home.

"Alright, you two father and daughter can talk."

Seeing both Miko and her Father looking as if they had something to say but couldn't, Kano Yoruhoshi shrugged indifferently and went to the living room, leaving the one person and one ghost space to talk alone.

After Kano Yoruhoshi left.

Miko's Father scratched his head, a slightly embarrassed smile appearing on his face.

"That, I'm sorry I ate your pudding."

Yotsuya Miko pursed her lips, tears welling up in her eyes, and shook her head softly, saying,

"No, that's all in the past. You don't need to apologize. It was me who was too willful."

The reason Miko's Father became a departed soul trapped by obsession after his death was simple.

He had secretly eaten the pudding Yotsuya Miko had put in the refrigerator, and they had a big fight because of it.

It sounded like a trivial matter.

But before they could resolve their conflict, Yotsuya Miko's Father passed away from illness.

This small matter was the root of his obsession.

It wasn't just Miko's Father.

Yotsuya Miko had also always regretted why she had left such a regret back then.

Now, she finally had a chance to make amends.

This was the first time in her life she felt the benefits of having the Yin-Yang Eyes ability.

"Mm."

Miko's Father nodded slightly and smiled,

"Since that's the case, then I should be on my way."

Although there was some reluctance in Yotsuya Miko's eyes, she still nodded obediently.

Departed souls should not linger in the world.

Since the obsession that kept her Father here was resolved, it was time for him to pass on.

However, unexpectedly.

Even after more than ten seconds, Miko's Father still hadn't disappeared, nor was there any sign of his body gradually fading. He just stood there perfectly fine.

"This…?"

Yotsuya Miko looked confused, unable to understand why.

Logically speaking, after an obsession dissipates, a departed soul should pass on.

Why was Father still here?

"Oh right, I forgot."

Yotsuya Miko's Father thought for a while, then suddenly realized with a start,

"I have another obsession."

"Another one?"

"Yes."

Miko's Father's smile faded, and his expression became serious as he slowly said,

"I want to talk to that Kano Yoruhoshi."

"Talk?"

Yotsuya Miko was startled upon hearing this and quickly waved her hands, explaining,

"This… you've misunderstood. He's not my boyfriend."

"Even if he's not your boyfriend, he's the first boy you've ever brought home since you were little. I should at least chat with him a bit."

At this point, Miko's Father paused, then sighed deeply and said,

"Besides, both you and he possess abilities that ordinary people don't."

Hearing this, Yotsuya Miko hesitated, then finally bit her lower lip and nodded.

Immediately after, she looked at her Father walking towards the living room and carefully reminded him.

"Um, Father, you should prepare yourself mentally."

"Mentally prepared?"

Miko's Father waved his hand and laughed heartily.

"How old do you think I am? Talking to a half-grown child, could I possibly be nervous? Don't worry."

...

Miko's Father was originally full of confidence.

He was just a high school boy, and as a mature and steady former head of the family who had experienced many years of social Tempering, he would definitely take the initiative in the conversation.

He had to find out if this kid named Kano Yoruhoshi had any improper thoughts about his daughter.

This old Father's persistence was the last obsession of Miko's Father.

He had even thought of an imposing opening, but the moment he stepped into the living room, he froze.

"You're here? Please, have a seat."

Kano Yoruhoshi was sitting cross-legged on the floor, directly in front of Miko's Father's own posthumous portrait and memorial tablet.

What was even more outrageous was that he was holding a pudding in his hand.

Miko's Father was stunned.

"You... what you're holding, it couldn't be..."

"That's right."

Kano Yoruhoshi replied nonchalantly.

"It's the pudding offered to you."

Seeing him admit it directly, Miko's Father was completely bewildered.

Stealing offerings for the dead?

That was already outrageous enough.

What was even more outrageous was stealing it in front of the person being offered to!

Only now did he understand what his daughter's words about preparing himself mentally meant.

Is this kid... mentally unstable?

Looking at Miko's Father, who was wide-eyed and stunned, Kano Yoruhoshi was self-righteous, acting as if it was only natural.

"I figured you couldn't eat it anyway, and leaving it here would be a waste, so I might as well eat it."

Miko's Father's expression was very complex. He looked at the pudding in Kano Yoruhoshi's hand, smacked his lips, and finally, could only sigh helplessly.

"Alright, alright, no matter what, you're a guest. Eat if you want to."

Miko's Father tried to compose himself, maintaining a serious demeanor, and slowly walked over, sitting cross-legged beside Kano Yoruhoshi.

Before he could even open his mouth to deliver the imposing opening he had already prepared, an action and a sentence from the other party completely broke his composure.

Kano Yoruhoshi handed an incense stick to Miko's Father, smiling very naturally.

"You're idle anyway, why don't you light an incense stick for yourself?"
