Chapter 109 - Death of a King

Since the decision to support Gilneas, the Alliance Navy has been mobilized. The combined fleets of Kul Tiras and Lordaeron arrived in Gilneas's waters three days later.

The supreme commander of the combined fleet was none other than Admiral Daelin Proudmoore. As the King of Kul Tiras and possessing the most extensive naval battle experience, he naturally bore the responsibility.

General Darius Crowley, the commander of the Gilneas Brigade, was also on board as a guide. The coastal area of Gilneas is riddled with reefs, and only locals know the navigable routes. Lord Crowley's territory is not on the coast, and he was not very clear about the safe routes, but he pointed out a clear path to the Alliance fleet—that was to go to Stormglen first and certainly get guidance from Lord Walden and Baron Ashbury.

The massive fleet, consisting of hundreds of warships of all sizes, immediately headed towards western Gilneas.

Lordaeron not only sent a fleet but also dispatched the powerful Knights of the Silver Hand, led by High Commander Saidan Dathrohan. Uther and other paladins were ordered to defend other areas—the existence of Naxxramas required the Alliance to leave some elites to guard against aerial raids.

In addition, Terenas also sent a special envoy, Auberdine Pullman, to communicate with Gilneas. Fortunately, the Valoran Allied Forces had already sent air forces to bomb the Scourge reinforcements two days ago, so King Genn should not misunderstand that the Alliance was invading his territory. Sending a special envoy was just a formality.

When the fleet was about to sail into the reef area, Admiral Daelin ordered the ships to stop. He said to the special envoy: "Envoy Pullman, now is your time to take the stage."

Auberdine nodded politely and smiled: "Wait for my good news!"

"Sir Fordring, take a few people with the special envoy to go ashore and protect his safety!" Daelin instructed.

"Yes, Admiral!" Tirion Fordring accepted the order.

Daelin then looked at Darius, an important figure in Gilneas, and asked, "General Crowley, would you like to go together?"

Darius hesitated. Logically, he should go, but he thought that if he followed the Alliance envoy and appeared before King Genn as a savior, it might irritate him, making him think of himself as a failure in decision-making, with vision inferior to his subjects. Maybe Genn would feel that Crowley was showing off—look, Your Majesty, you desperately tried to prevent Gilneas from joining the Alliance, but now you're in trouble, aren't you? I'm back to save you!

He shook his head and smiled wryly: "I'd better not go."

"Very well." Daelin expressed his understanding. He personally escorted the special envoy and Tirion Fordring's team onto a small boat, watching them gradually sail towards the vaguely visible island fortress in the sea mist.

He patted Darius on the shoulder, his voice filled with a smile: "Cheer up, General Crowley. Gilneas is about to rejoin the Alliance. You are the hero of Gilneas. Don't look so gloomy!"

Only then did Darius reveal a trace of a smile.

Hopefully, he can reconcile with King Genn!

That's what he thought.

General Crowley did not know King Genn's situation.

Genn Greymane had just set up the defensive positions when Lord Ashbury and Lord Walden arrived with a large number of reinforcements.

They brought at least three thousand soldiers, which was almost eighty percent of Stormglen's defensive forces. There were also 12 cannons and several carts loaded with ammunition, as well as piles of weapons, armor, and other supplies. Seeing these two lords providing such great assistance, King Genn couldn't help but sigh: Indeed, only in times of national crisis can one see a person's true character!

He thought of Lieutenant Walden, who had thrown himself forward selflessly, Miss Gwen, the heroic woman who rescued supplies, and the thousands upon thousands of people who bravely sacrificed themselves to defend Gilneas.

Seeing Walden and Ashbury almost exhausting their strength, he couldn't help but feel a surge of pride—Gilneas has such loyal nobles and brave people, and it will surely be able to revive!

Genn's eyes were a little moist. He felt that he must do his best to complete this great undertaking to make up for the blind mistakes he had made in the past.

Baron Ashbury came up to him and said: "Your Majesty, the Alliance has sent an envoy to discuss support. They are waiting in the Stormglen Fortress. You should go with me quickly! Lord Walden can take command here!"

"Oh? They've already arrived? That's fast!" Genn was overjoyed. He looked at Lord Walden, who was taking over the defense. He was indeed a military commander good at fighting, and there was no problem leaving it to him.

Genn called Lord Walden over and instructed: "I am going to Stormglen with Baron Ashbury to meet the Alliance envoy. After that, we will get support from the Alliance. Walden, you must guard this place well. When the reinforcements arrive, we can start the counterattack on Gilneas City and take back the territory we lost from the Scourge!"

"I will, Your Majesty. Please go with peace of mind!" Walden said in a deep voice, "I will guard this land well!"

"Well, very good, I believe in your ability!" Genn patted him on the shoulder approvingly, then turned to Baron Ashbury, "Time is of the essence, let's set off now! The sooner we negotiate, the fewer losses Gilneas will suffer!"

"Yes, Your Majesty!" Ashbury led him onto the carriage, then personally sat in the driver's seat to drive for the king.

His trusted knights guarded the carriage, rushing towards the Stormglen Fortress.

The carriage was a bit bumpy. Genn leaned on the soft cushion, and the fatigue of the past two days made him feel sleepy. The Alliance's support freed him from the panic of the Gilneas Scourge. He imagined in his mind how he should communicate with the Alliance envoy and how to strive for assistance as much as possible while ensuring Gilneas's interests. With this bloody lesson, he firmly believed that the newborn Gilneas would return to the forefront of the human kingdoms!

Genn thought and thought, and then fell asleep. After an unknown amount of time, the carriage stopped. He woke up, rubbed his tired eyes, and asked, "Have we arrived?"

Baron Ashbury's voice rang out outside the carriage: "Yes, Your Majesty. This is the destination!"

"Oh, I'll come out now!" Genn rubbed his hands, vigorously rubbed his stiff face, and cheered up. He didn't want the Alliance envoy to see his most embarrassing side.

Feeling that his demeanor was Alright, he pushed open the car door and found that this was indeed the territory of Stormglen, but he had not yet arrived at Baron Ashbury's island fortress, but on the road on the coastal cliff leading to the fortress.

He was a little strange and was about to ask a question when Ashbury suddenly revealed the dagger hidden in his sleeve and stabbed it into the king's heart when Genn was completely unprepared.

The doubt on Genn's face was replaced by astonishment and anger. He felt the real pain of a heart being pierced. He had been betrayed by his trusted subject—

"Why, why do this!?"

Genn asked loudly. He knew that only a few breaths of his life were left, but he was so unwilling to have such an ending. Gilneas was clearly about to be saved! Could it be that these two eastern lords had surrendered to the Scourge?

Ashbury's expression was indifferent. He gripped the dagger and twisted it fiercely, shattering Genn's heart. "King Genn, you have disappointed us too much. Gilneas does not need a selfish and short-sighted king like you. The Alliance does not need such an unreliable ally!"

"I... clearly... already... re... pented..." Strength disappeared from King Genn's body. Before his consciousness fell into darkness, there was only one strong thought: Why, when he had already repented, decided to correct his mistakes, and prepared to lead Gilneas on a completely new path, did he have to suffer such a shameful betrayal? Ashbury, Walden, they are all traitors! The Alliance? Was it them who secretly instructed it behind the scenes?

Ashbury pulled out the dagger. The king's blood gushed out of his heart, splashing on his face and clothes. His heart was filled with the guilt of assassinating the king and the sense of accomplishment of saving Gilneas. The complex emotions made his face look uncertain. His loyal knights guarded the surroundings with solemn expressions.

"The fatuous Genn is dead. Our Gilneas will appoint Liam Greymane as the new king!" Ashbury grabbed Genn's belt and threw his body off the cliff. He put down all his guilt, and his voice became fanatical and excited. "Our kingdom will usher in a new order! Let us welcome Gilneas's rebirth from the ashes!"

The knights guarded the baron and rushed towards the island fortress. The Alliance envoy should be arriving soon.

In the forest behind them, a terrified figure walked out. His lips were purple and his whole body was trembling. He almost crawled to the place where Genn had been pushed off the cliff. There were still undried bloodstains on the ground. He knelt by the cliff and shouted desperately: "Your Majesty, Your Majesty..."

This was Sir Herl, who had been ordered to bring the message to Prince Liam at the King's Gate. He was preparing to return to the king's side and happened to dismount here for a pee, but he saw this bloody scene of regicide in the forest!

He was so frightened that he collapsed to the ground, desperately covering his mouth to prevent his sobbing from making a sound. If he was discovered, who else could tell Prince Liam the truth about the king's death?

Ashbury! Walden!

Herl gritted his teeth and stood up, found his warhorse. He was going to make these two regicides pay the price!

As he turned his horse around and headed to the King's Gate, another terrifying-looking fellow also appeared in this place. It had a pair of bat-like wings and a pair of demon horns on its head. This was a Nathrezim demon.

It tapped its chin lightly with its sharp claws and muttered to itself: "What a touching drama."

The Dread Lord flew down the cliff and fished King Genn's body out of the sea: "Poor man, I've decided to add a little bit of drama to you. Be grateful to me, King Genn!"
