Chapter 71 - An Alpha's Patience, A Mate's Release

I didn't make it three steps before Kaelen caught me. His arms locked around my waist, lifting me effortlessly off the ground as I kicked and struggled against his hold.

"Let me go!" I twisted in his grip, my heart hammering wildly in my chest. "Kaelen, put me down!"

His voice was low and dangerous in my ear. "Running was a very poor choice, little mate."

I felt the rumble of his words against my back as he carried me toward the bed, my feet dangling uselessly above the floor. The air seemed charged with electricity, crackling with his barely contained power. When he sat on the edge of the mattress, I redoubled my efforts to break free.

"I'm sorry I slapped you," I gasped, trying to pry his fingers from around my waist. "I was upset, I didn't think—"

"That's precisely the problem," he interrupted, his voice stern but controlled. "You're not thinking, Seraphina. You're reacting. Running. Hiding from your pain behind anger."

"Don't you dare psychoanalyze me!" I snapped.
