Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

There is a weight on his chest.

His eyes flutter open, fighting back the remnants of sleep threatening to lull him in. The little light seeping into the room through the cracks of the curtains indicate that it's way past day break. He reaches blindly for his phone, only to be stopped by a weight on top of him. He spits out the strands of hair in his mouth as an exasperated smile tugs at his lips. He takes in the person squeezing him in an octopus-like grip, his smile widening further as he sees his husband's scrunched up face.

His husband.

Over a week has passed and it still feels like a dream.

The news of their union came as no surprise to anyone. Their tale was a usual one; childhood friends to lovers, always inseparable no matter the trials they faced.

And trials there were.

He shakes his head in an attempt to rid himself of such thoughts. This is their honeymoon, and no sad memories will ruin it for him!

With that thought in mind, he decides to get to work. It takes a lot of patience and determination, but soon he is able to claw himself out of the deathlike grip his husband has on him, letting out a sigh of relief as he is finally able to slip out of bed. He watches briefly as his husband blindly reaches out for him, only to frown when he feels no one there. A small smile crawls onto his face as he takes in the scene.

He heads to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, letting out a silent thanks to his husband for booking a lodge that offers such a luxury. The place is well stocked, so after a few seconds of deliberation, he decides what to make and begins preparation. Soon, the aroma of pancakes wafts around, earning a grumble from his empty stomach.

He loads the plates with heaps of pancakes, and makes sure to squeeze out every last drop of maple syrup onto one plate, just the way his husband likes it.

He walks back to the bedroom, only to see his husband awake, rubbing his eyes with his hands.

"Morning, sleeping beauty," he teases, setting the tray down on the table beside them.

He bends down to place a kiss on his lover's forehead, giggling when he is dragged down to the bed.

"Ew, morning breath!" He exclaims, giggling as he pushes his face away.

"You love it," his husband teases, placing kisses all over his face.

"Jimin! Stop, you're so gross," Jungkook says, laughing as he feebly attempts to push him away.

"After all the love you professed to me, I can't even get a good morning kiss?" Jimin says, pouting.

Jungkook giggles, leaning in to place a swift kiss on his lover's lips.

"There, happy?" He asks, grinning.

"Very," Jimin says, eyes closing with how wide his smile is.

"I love you," Jungkook says, placing his head on Jimin's chest.

"I can see that," Jimin says, running his hand through Jungkook's hair. He pops one eye open, staring at Jungkook.

Jungkook observes him, brows pinched in concentration, "are you wearing contacts?" He asks, confused.

"Of course not," Jimin says with an eye roll.

Strange, he could have sworn Jimin's eyes were brown.

"You're cute and all, but I smell pancakes," Jimin says after a few minutes of silence, earning a light slap on his chest.

"You're only with me for my cooking."

"That and your incredible massages."

Jungkook wouldn't sacrifice this happiness for anything.

They get lost two hours into their exploration. Jungkook looks up at the clear afternoon sky, wondering just how they let this happen.

Oh, right. Jimin.

Their itinerary for the day was simple; explore the town using the map that was given to them by the nice lady at the reception, get some local delicacies to eat, and make sweet love in the Jacuzzi.

He should have known that things would take a bad turn when Jimin decided to change things up a bit.

Now here they are, two hours later, tired, sweaty, and lost.

He considers scolding his lover, but falters when he notices the look on his face.

"It's not your fault," he finds himself saying in an attempt to placate him.

Jimin rolls his eyes, his pout never faltering, "you don't have to lie."

"Look, there's a diner down the road, why don't we go there and get something to eat?" Jungkook offers, smiling at the nod he gets.

"Think they'll serve seafood?" Jimin asks as they go.

"You don't like seafood," Jungkook reminds him, shaking his head slightly at Jimin's forgetfulness.

"Right, my bad."

Jimin has been a bit off lately, Jungkook thinks, but decides to pay it no mind. No need to let such thoughts spoil the day.

Together, they approach the diner, and immediately they walk in, they are greeted by the chiming of a bell.

"Welcome to Jin eats!" A loud voice greets.

"I haven't seen you two before. Let me guess, honeymoon?" The man says, grinning.

Jungkook grins, slipping his hand into Jimin's, "are we that obvious?"

"I have an eye for things like this. You stay here for as long as I have and you become good at it. C'mon, there's no reason for us to stand here and talk. The place is practically empty now because rush hour is a few hours away, so you're free to sit wherever you like," the man says, leading them in.

True to his word, the place is practically deserted, save for the person by the counter threatening to fall asleep at any minute. Jungkook admires the simplicity of the place, taking in the retro inspired designs and layouts.

They take a seat at a booth close to a window, smiling in thanks as they are given two menus. After placing their orders, they watch as the man walks past the counter, barking out a few orders before coming out to meet them.

"I'm Seokjin, by the way, the owner of this place. If you have any positive remarks to give about the meals you're about to eat, you know who to send them to," he says, shooting them yet another grin as he quickly puts on an apron.

"How long have you two been in town?" He asks them as he slips into one of the seats they offer to him.

"A week," Jungkook says in response.

"Ah, I see. I hope this little town of ours is up to your expectations," Seokjin says, smiling.

"It's better than what I imagined, that's for sure. It is a bit quiet though, everyone seems to mind their own business, but it's amazing nonetheless," Jungkook replies.

"Yeah, you just can't help but want to stay here forever," Jimin says, and Jungkook gives him a look.

"So, how long has this place been running? Based on the layout I'd assume it has been a while," Jungkook pitches in.

"This diner has been running for decades. We've lost count of the exact number," Seokjin says chuckling, and dives into stories about the diner and the town.

Conversations flow freely between them, and soon, their food is served. Seokjin excuses himself, going back into the place where the food was brought from.

"You made a good decision by picking this place for our honeymoon," Jimin says as he digs in.

Jungkook raises an eyebrow, "I didn't pick it, you did," he points out.

Jimin merely smiles in response.

Soon, after paying for their meals, they find themselves leaving with enough food to last them for weeks. They offer their heartfelt thanks with a promise to come again, and begin to head back after receiving proper directions, taking their time to admire the scenery of the quaint town, from the quiet streets to the antiquated architecture.

Jimin wastes no time taking off his clothes as soon as they arrive back at their lodge, heading straight for the bathroom. Jungkook watches him go with a fond smile, and begins to take care of the extra food.

He is halfway done, buried deep in the refrigerator when Jimin comes back, clad in Jungkook's sweater and shorts that are twice his size.

"Raiding my clothes I see," Jungkook teases, placing the last bits of food into the refrigerator before turning to look at his lover.

Jimin is seated on the counter, legs spread apart as he nibbles on a strawberry taken from the bowl by his side. Jungkook walks over to him, slotting himself between Jimin's legs. "What's yours is mine," Jimin replies, placing a wet kiss on Jungkook's nose.

He finds himself staring at Jimin yet again. That's strange, Jimin never had a mole on his nose.

"Feed me some," he says, opening his mouth wide. Jimin huffs in retort, but obliges, scolding Jungkook when he attempts to grin with his mouth full.

The moment is shattered when Jungkook's phone blares out an obnoxious tune. He groans as he separates himself from Jimin and makes his way to the connected living room. After digging through the pillows in the couch, he extracts his phone successfully. His lips twist in confusion as he notices who is calling him.

Jimin's name flashes through his screen.

He rolls his eyes, assuming it's one of his lover's jokes. "Nice try, Jimin," he calls out.

When the call persists, he turns, "babe, where's your phone?" He asks.

Jimin turns to him slightly, waving the device up. It's blank. "Battery's almost dead, I'll charge it before I go to sleep."

Jungkook frowns harder.

Hesitantly, he answers the call, eyes never leaving Jimin. "Hello?" He answers.

"Jungkook! Finally! I have been trying to reach you for weeks! What the hell?" Jimin's voice calls out loudly.

Jimin's voice?

What the hell?

"Is this some kind of joke?" He asks, glancing at the person in the kitchen who's still nibbling on strawberries.

Is this a prank of something? Is he trying to scare me? Jungkook wonders.

"What do you mean? Of course not! No one has been able to reach you for weeks! You missed our wedding for fuck's sake!" The person exclaims through the phone.

His breath begins to pick up, different thoughts running through his mind as he grips onto his phone tighter.

"Jimin?" He whispers into the phone, gaze still on the figure in the kitchen.

"Jungkook? Bun? Are you alright? Where are you?" The person replies, worry laced into his voice.

"H-how's this possible? You're literally right in front of me? We're on our honeymoon," Jungkook breathes harder, his hand beginning to shake.

"Jungkook, you've been missing for weeks. What are you talking about? What's going on? Where are you-"

"Hello?" He calls out when the call begins to crack.

"Jung-" the call disconnects with a loud beep, and Jungkook finds himself rooted in his spot.

Is this some kind of sick joke? How was that even possible? Jimin is right in front of him, what's going on?

Jimin with the endless black eyes staring back at him instead of the warm orbs he grew to love.

Jimin with the strange moles on his body.

No, this has to be some sick joke, he thinks as he shakes his head.

Taking a deep breath, he walks back to the kitchen. "Can I use your phone to make a call?" He asks.

Jimin hands it over, reminding him to charge it.

He briskly walks to the room, shutting the door behind him. There's no password. He scrolls through the contact list and finds only his number there. He clicks on dial, and almost instantly his phone begins to ring. He takes another breath and calls Jimin's number with his phone, but it does not ring out. Instead-

"Jungkook?" Jimin's voice calls out.

He ends the call, watching as his phone slips out of his hold and lands on the floor with a loud thud.

He can't breathe. If all of this is real then-

Then the person he got married to, the person who travelled with him for their honeymoon, the person just outside the door wearing his clothes and his lover's face is-

That person is not Jimin.
